I'm planning to conquer the terrain of ladakh with Duke in last week June or 1 st week of July.
Pls let me know what changes i need to do or precaution need to be taken on Duke and whether Duke can sustain such tough terrain?
You may do so.. Duke 200 is a fuel injected bike so it will not suffer from altitude sickness like most of the carbureted bikes do. The ECU will automatically compensate the AFR ratio for the thin air in such altitude..
The terrain is really unforgiving and there are no mechanics for hundreds of kms.. So you have to be prepared completely. Carry puncture repair kit, electronic pump/ foot pump. I suggest fill up your tyres with RIDE ON Tire protection foam or if it is not available use slime.
Other than that yes, you will have to devise a way to carry petrol safely along with your luggage. You may hunt for special petrol jerry cans.. carrying it in 500/1 ltr cold drink bottles is a complete no no and very dangerous...
Riding gear ofcourse is a must so are warm clothes for such terrain. Please go through some of the posts of riders who have already done it in "The Tourer" section of xbhp.

Hey just call your local KTm workshop and they will help you with the prices of all the parts you want to know about, they even have a spare parts manual with blow up views of the engine and various other parts of the KTM...but I doubt they will give that to you :-DOriginally posted by burninrubbr View PostA lil help with this, please
Asfor the cost of the engine parts, I'm guessing not so reasonableSpeed, it seems to me, provides the one genuinely modern pleasure.

I am sure the best place for your answer is any KTM showroom. However, IMO they won't be much higher than any normal Indian bike.Originally posted by burninrubbr View PostA lil help with this, please
Good points here. I have sometimes felt the hard upshift/downshift issue in my bike, but I must tell it's not so severe or regular. Will ride today and tomorrow to check it throughly.Originally posted by starscream1188 View PostWell with respect to gear shifts I can give you a solution!
Please note more carefully you will only either have a hard upshift or a hard downshift you cannot experience both! I may not be an expert but from what I have noticed on my bike and a little bit of DIY I sorted the hard shifts and clanks while shifting.!
First of all - take your time and do go through the thread once. During initial days maintain the recommended RPM range. I would also suggest for first 300/400 Kms maintain RPM upto 4000/4500, thereafter for upto 600/700 Kms maintain RPM upto 5500/6000. Then till the first service go upto 7000/7500. Also I will suggest you to not rip the bike for atleast first 1500 Kms. During running in try to run the bike giving it proper rest everytime(i.e. don't go for a long ride without having ample breaks in between). Also try to clean the bike once/twice weekly. And don't go for Power wash(wash with high pressure water jet) as that wash by an novice could harm the sensors or raditor grill in the bike. Normal wash with water in your home will be best. As the brakes and tires will take time to properly bead in, please avoid any hard braking situations if possible. Keep any eye for the coolant level and top it up if needed during running in period.Originally posted by vinugk View Postgot my bike delivered yesterday..gimme som tips on how to ride on initial days from ur experience...as every one av experienced my vehicle also heatin up a lot in traffic...any way to reduce it??
And most importantly do not engage in a traffic light race if some one sees your new Bike and invite you. Races should be performed only in tracks and not in roads.___________________________________________

Ride On Tire Protection System/ Foam
Hi,Originally posted by Ri$hi View PostCould You tell us more about this? Where can we find this and how does this work?
For more info, please go to google, type shv18+ride on tps+ xbhp and you will get all the stuff you need for the same. I have written extensively on it including my ownership experience of over 9000 kms with it. I have also put demo videos of the product where they ride the bikes right through a bed of 6 inch nails and the tire remains ok.
To know how to procure it please call at this no.:+919004504000 ask for Tejas. As of now he is the sole distributor of the ride on TPS product. He should be able to help you source it out in the respective local area. For riders based in Mumbai, ride on TPS can be found at Churchgate, close to Mantralaya. Just call up the no. Above and they will guide you. If you do mention that you are from xbhp and a few riders club in, expect a decent discount on the product.

which coolant to be used, same as suggested in owners manual??

You can use either Castrol Radicool or the Motul Motocool Expert. In case of Castrol AFAIK the coolant is concentrated, so you need to mix it in 2:1 ratio (i.e. 2 parts of distilled water to one part of concentrated coolant) and use it. Whereas the Motul one is premixed, so you don't need to mix it with water; use it directly from the bottle. Not sure about the Castrol Radicool price but Motul one will cost you some 300 -330.Originally posted by vinugk View Postthanks bro..

I will ask for the FA kit it when I go for my first service
even i am willing to buy a radiator guard but at performance shop it is priced too high. i guess i'll go around in the city and look out for good deals.Originally posted by Ri$hi View PostAnyone planning to get the radiator guards?
Radiator guard for KTM Duke
I guess no one from chennai got the first aid kit.
I am missing the keychain and the first aid kit.
U should call up the PBK showroom and ask for those.. FA is the basic things that should be provided with the bike
U can't do much about the heat.. but it will gradually reduce as the ODO reads more KMS..Originally posted by vinugk View Postgot my bike delivered yesterday..gimme som tips on how to ride on initial days from ur experience...as every one av experienced my vehicle also heatin up a lot in traffic...any way to reduce it??
