    Hi,

It is advisable to heat up any engine, be it FI or carb before starting up, so that should not be an issue to be worried about...but remember, P220 is older tech as compared to even 200NS, let alone D200. If you can tip toe D200 on stock suspension settings, softening the suspension can reduce the heigh by a couple of inches and you should be fine.

TO be honest, in 1.5L budget, you could possibly round up everything possibly available to Mango Man(Aam Aadmi). Your usage is pretty simple and clear and this makes easier for me to suggest but difficult for you to choose. The options available to you are - KTM D200, Yamaha R15, P220, P200NS, Yamaha FZ/Fazer, Suzuki Gixxer and many more to name a few. Personal favorite - Yamaha R15 and Suzuki Gixxer although I own a D200 myself. You are looking at the fuel efficiency of about 28-33 KMPL depending on the area of usage (city, highway, combined). The fuel tank is tiny 10.5L out of which it is good to save about 2L of fuel to avoid damaging the fuel pump. Effective usable fuel capacity - 8.5L = 250-265kms.
Take a test ride of all and decide which one suits you better, the one which makes you happy.

I am a little confused with the statement. Why would you want to lock the rear tyre? In any case, check the rear brake pads, most likely they are gone and you are hearing the metal-metal contact noise. Else, the disc rotor(circular disc/plate) might be bent, causing uneven wear and tear.
Yes, I do not \"have\" to lock the tire, but when I do that hitting the rear brake, there is a \"tak\" sound, like some heavy metal banging on heavy metal. I do keep my bike well maintained, changed both the pads a month back and the rotor is in perfect condition.

        Thanks for the help

There is no charge in your battery for powering the self start mechanism.
This could be due to 2 reasons :
        1) The battery life is over and needs replacement
        2) The stator coil is damaged and needs replacement, as someone has already suggested.

Since your post is an old one I assume you have already got it fixed, but elaborating for others who might face this issue in future.
Bike batteries are designed to work at almost full potential and the lost charge is continually replenished by the stator mechanism when the engine is on(the bike need not move). This stator coil is essentially an electricity generator which works on the principle of electromagnetic induction and is housed on the left side of the engine(The round casing with \'Racing KTM engraved in orange).
The duke battery is a VRLA(zero maintenance) type of make Sonic/Exide (Exide owns sonic, so newer ones may be Exide branded). This battery with the duke specs is pretty rare in the market and should you try to avoid the rather bloated price the svc charges, you are in for a fight. It\'s pretty difficult to procure this battery as it\'s not usually sold to battery resellers for retail. These batteries are essentially meant to be consumed by OEM or svcs. I don\'t remember the exact make and can\'t really check since I am not in Mumbai right now, but from what I remember it was called ETZ9. I managed to find it from a reseller with 1 year warranty but I still doubt the provenance of that piece .The same spec battery, incidentally, serves in the Ninja 250 too.
To check if the stator coil is gone, you\'d first need to take the battery to an automotive battery retailer and get it recharged(Rs 50-60). After it\'s fully charged(reading should be around 13.5 V), you need to plonk it back into the battery compartment and reconnect the terminals. Turn the engine on and then the headlamps on. Throttle up for a 1 or 2 minutes. Ask the battery wallah to connect the voltmeter to the battery terminals while you do it.As I mentioned earlier, automotive batteries are meant to operate at maximum potential, meaning they quickly run out of juice if the charge is not continuously replenished. So within 2-3 minutes the battery would show a lesser voltage if the stator coil is damaged.
If not, then any reasonably advanced voltmeter would evaluate the electrolyte condition and would flash a warning, in which case you\'d need to replace the battery.
The battery won\'t simply give up immediately after the above warning and would still normally last a few days/weeks but a gone stator coil would need immediate replacement.

There is a simple test you can do every day to check if the alternator is working. Appropriate time for this test is late evening. As you park the bike, turn on the headlight and rev up the engine a bit, if the light intensity is increasing as you rev up, then the alternator is working and the battery is getting charged. I do this every time I park my bike, after my alternator went kaput some time back.

Fuel injection is awesome, thumb the starter in the morning and give it a minute, bike is ready to go, no worries regarding altitude or anything for that matter, it will work well as long as its taken good care of, but if you dont then thats a huge crater in your pocket.
The P220\'s carb, well I have to be specific because it comes with something called the Auto Choke, thumb the starter (with the throttle slightly open, if you\'re starting it after a long break) and the bike revs high for a few secs till its able to maintain idle, let it warm up for a minute so that the oil can circulate properly and thats it, but it has its disadvantages, especially when riding to high altitude regions as the state of tune is static.

Warm up is recommended for every motor, its just so that the oil gets to every nook and corner of the motor so that wear is reduced.

I can guess that the pads were not set properly and that they might be rubbed off more from one end than the other. If the pads are good with even wear-tear then ask the service centre to overhaul the complete setup. Don\'t accept it just after finishing the work. Pads are in perfect condition. And when it was changed last time, I checked the pads and the wear was even. It\'s not a brake issue. I think when the tire locks, maybe the caliper housing moves about the swing-arm. I haven\'t ridden another Duke so far, if you\'re riding one, please check this out. At around 20kmph, lock the rear tire abruptly, and see if you hear anything.

hi guys, from past 1 month i am facing a weird handling issue, i am not getting the same handling confidence that i used to get on my bike and i am not able to make out what\'s the exact thing that is causing this issue. Earlier bike\'s handle was having slight vibration under heavy breaking and i could feel that handle was a little loose. So when i went to get the bike serviced they tightened it and now the vibration are much less. But i am still not getting the handling confidence that i used to get.
I have never had a fall on the bike and it is serviced periodically. Now i am confused is it a con-set issue or i have squeezed the life out of my tires. Bike is 2 years old and have done 13.5k kms. please suggest me what could be the issue. Thanks

i do not notice any difference on revving up and the electricals are fine as well.

Any idea on the life of these REVZ FC1 and C1 under normal riding conditions (without burnouts and drifts)?
And also any comparisons with the earlier version (REVZ only)?

Appreciate your inputs, as its time for my darl to get new boots.

they were released hardly a few days ago, and i doubt if they are easily available yet at the stores.. so expecting someone to comment on the life will only result in wild guesses.
Why don't you try it out first and let us know ! They cost just a little more than the stock tires of the duke 200 and you are due for replacement anyway !
Going purely by the description of the tires, they sound like they should be more grippier and last maybe a little lesser than the stock revz's. Again tire life depends on how the bike is used n maintained (not necessarily burn outs n drifts)

btw, i suffered two punctures on my recent ride from Hyderabad to rajahmundry.. lost air abruptly (lucky i was just slowing down and coming to a stop due to heavy fog) - i felt a thud sound like something hit the belly pan, but on close inspection it was a puncture at the rear.. and on further checking there were two punctures.. no foreign object detected though in the tire. So much for tubeless tires

Now coming to my ownership experience:
108 days and 5200km: 70% of the rides > 200km per day and on highways averaging 85ish speeds.. its a mile muncher i tell you
motul 7100: wonderful substance ! worth the money.
Parking bulb blown in one month: replaced with a 10smd led.
hardly any coolant loss or oil loss
a little oil leak at the valve cover - started at around 1000km after the first service: Will get it fixed at the upcoming second service.
annoying little vibration noise at around 3000rpm - they say it could be fuel tank related and again will be checked at second service
front brake pads and rotor changed under warranty (brake noise - culprit was a glazed rotor)- was changed at around 2700km
A fall in the office parking to save myself.. gently laid the bike down on its side and jumped off-- damages: slight bend in the front and rear brake levers: had them replaced.
Two punctures 10days ago, repaired locally on the highway.. 1500km done since. Will observe for a few days for any abnormal loss of tire pressure, and might get this fixed by using a mushroom patch from the inside of the tire.
700km to go for the second service, will be getting it done towards this month end. Planning to a long trip from hyderabad towards bangalore-ooty-valparai-etc etc.. during march 1st week.

                            Hi Dukers,

I just cleaned my chain by removing the engine sprocket cover. I used a garden hose (not pressurize) to wash the dirt on the engine sprocket.
Now here's my question, can water get in the engine or mix with the engine oil through those three bolt holes on the sprocket cover?

I checked the color of the oil by looking at the glass level and it look fine and the color is not milky. I'm just bothered with what I did and thinking I should do a change oil.
My duke 200 is just 3K old and everything is perfect. No leaks. Just some vibration or weird sound like something is vibrating at high rpms.
It's a joy to ride and I just did a 630 kilometer trip.

Unfortunately, my bike's tank cover also got cracked, but it was near the coolant window. I had posted it here. I got it replaced under warranty as it happened automaticaly, now it has a crack at the same place and in the same fashion.

If you hit something or your warranty is out, the tank cover will cost you around Rs 1100, without taxes I think.
