I am planning to change to mrf zappers size same as in pulsar 150.

I can vouch for it. All heads turn upon the bike, when it roars.

      Discover 125 ST

Finally, after a long week long wait, Bajaj delivered me the Discover 125ST. Around Rs. 650 of price hiked from the date of booking, reason, freight charge increased because of hike in price of Diesel, and adding up all calculations the on-road price here at Jorhat, Assam is Rs. 63500/-. Moving ahead, the bike seems to redefine the Bajaj Discover concept, nowhere seems to be a Discover, , a complete face lift by Bajaj, With new graphics and new design, monoshock is a totally new concept in this category of bikes, the petrol tank looks good, looks like a big one & holds 10L of petrol, oh can’t forget the petrol knob, covered up with a plastic knob and escorted by the side cover, seems nice. The alloy wheels are unique in design, a 10 spoke one. The front disc brakes, at this price are definitely an add-on feature. The headlight is nice one, but somewhat looks like that of Bajaj XCD, even the petrol tank also looks like that of Suzuki GS. The speed odometer cluster is neatly arranged and has a always glowing Bajaj symbol in blue, the switches are same that of the predecessors, that is like the old Discover, expect for the missing choke lever, because the Discover 125ST comes with autochoke, I personally feel that the engine off switch could be added. The rider and the pillion seat are at good height and quite comfortable, but definitely not that of a tourer bike nor like that of a sports bike, and this bike having the suffix ST, Doesn’t seem to be justified, Handling is nice and the definitely I can say, ”I too can be Rossie”, The monoshock does its job perfectly, Moving on, the signal lamps have clear cover and all DC headlight is so good, now no hitches while letting the throttle loose.

Moving on to the engine, quite a smooth and refined one, a good job by Bajaj, but the sound, not a pleasant one, Nice exhaust , and seems like that of Pulsar, Lots & lots of power from the engine, and never let you feel like riding a 125CC bike, the 4valve 125cc DTSi engine is really a nice and refined one, even at 35kmph speed and 5th gear, the engine does not seems to lose power. The gear box is definitely a refined one, 5speed and no all down shifts, it’s now like that of the Pulsar, 1down, 4up, the near universal gear shift pattern. The gear box is smooth and does not make any noises like that of the previous Discover gear box, even no false neutral, even the positioning of the gear shift is such that you can freely use your toe for the down shift and heel for the up shift, can’t up shift with your toe, but overall the shifting is good and satisfactory.

Went for some 200km of odd highway ride, had a satisfactory result calculating the average mileage with reserve to reserve technique, 59kmpl, quite a good figure I suppose, because the bike has not even completed the first service.

Final word is that this Bajaj Discover 125ST is really an all new one, with superior performance from that of its predecessors. Really worth the money, I rank it 8/10.

PS: Will be adding the pictures soon.

Sorry to all my friends for this late update.

I completed my bikes first free service. And my love towards the bike has increased.

After the service, the bike is bit more smoother, little more comfortable(this maybe am used to it) and getting mileage of 67 kmpl. Before the service i got around 58 . But now am getting 67.After the serivce i filled petrol till the brim of the fuel tank. The total fuel tank capacity is 10.5 litres, in which the reserve is for 5 litres, and i rode 388.6 kms before i changed to reserve. So going by the calculation getting record milleage of 67. I was surprised and couldnt believe myself , because the bajaj guys estimated 60 kmpl and am getting more 7 km extra .

The riding comfort is better because of the mono shock suspension . Thanks to it i could go over bumps with ease. The pillion seat which at some height gives you a sportier feel and not compensating the comfort . My mother feels comfortable in the pillion seat.

The main or would say the atrracting feature of the bike is Engine Rev Sound. Man seriously when you start to rev the engine you wont feel its 125cc machine . Their is a ghost of karizma . Its the quickest 125 cc machine . and with 1.1 kgm of torque its quick in 40-60 range.

The headligts provide ample amount of light which is enough to ride in dark areas.

The problems which i face with the bike is

          * not getting enough grip on rainy surface. This is mainly due to TVS eurogrip tyres. I wolud highly recommend 125 ST owners to change the tyre (if possible). The bajaj people have to move on from TVS to some other tyres. This has been the major problem in every Bajaj Product. I regret this from BAJAJ.

          * Next the shifting of Gear from 4th to 5th . The shifting of 4th to 5th gear takes some time . i could easily change the other gears quickly except this. if i try to change quick ,it backfires to 4th .

*i have to kick few times before the engine gets cranked when you use first time of the day. i usually try to kickstart (than using electric start) the engine every first time of the day.

So these are the small problems( except the first one) which i face on this beautiful machine. This is truly a wonderful Bike and am proud to own it.

i seriously doubt that the bike has a 5 litre reserve...please check on this....it shud be about 2.5 litres
never heard of a bike having 5 litres reserve...

            if its around 2.5
u used 7.5 litres of fuel for 388.6 kms

by that calculations the mileage comes about to 51 kmpl which is a tad bit lower than expected mileage from d125st

please check and other members confirm about the reserve

And i didnt go till the reserve . i filled fuel to brim of fuel tank (which is approximately 5.5 litres in main) and rode 388.6 km before switching to reserve. So going by the calculation am getting 67kmpl.

                Review

Hi, I got my bike on 28th of last month. Finished 829 kms as of now.

The idea of buying a bike occurred when I saw a hole in my 1997 splendor's swing arm . Unfortunately I saw the hole very late(my father had vacations, so was at home. That day he was to board the plane). Immediately i suggested for 125ST, as it would be a good replacement for the splendor. But my father turned it down and told to just replace the swing arm and ride. Then the swing arm was changed and I was riding with splendor to my office. All these events took the end of july. My father told me in august end that he would be coming back at august end. And told to research bikes about Japanese ones. I was in no mood other than the 125ST but I searched and found fazer to be good. But my father didn't like it. I got the opportunity and told about 125st advantages and he accepted it. So booked the bike on 27th august and got delivery on 31st(bike was ready but opted for special number). from that day I travel 30kms daily in the bike.

Engine: It is absolute buttery smooth. Nice roar sound. The bike easily pulls from 30kmph even at 5th gear. No hiccups whatsoever.

Gearshift: Smooth shift at all gears. initially I had problem in shifting from 5th to 4th. But its disappeared now. The down shifting has to be at the appropriate speeds.(you cannot downshift from 5th to 4th at <10kmph, clutch has to be released and then only should shift down).

Comfort: The comfort and riding position are good. Even thought the pillion seat is higher, it provides good comfort. All these coupled with mono shock, makes it eligible for a touring.

Brakes and tires: The brakes are powerful and brilliant even with crappy tires. The eurogrip tyres came with the bike are good only for dry roads. On wet roads it skids a little. I am looking to change to MRF ZAPPERS in 1 or 2 months. It seems the new bikes come with kenda tires(worst than eurogrip).

Good amount of light thrown out at the front. DC lamps are really helping me

I can say this is best bike in 125cc category and with a price of 63873 OTR. But I advise to change the tires as soon as you the bike.
                My riding style:
                0-100 odo: top speed 40kmph
100 to 544(till first service)odo: top speed 40kmph. sometimes bursted till 60. Only one time bursted to top speed of 100kmps that too at 500kms at odo.
from 544 odo: top speed 45kmph. sometime bursting till 60kmph but only for 10 or 20 secs or so. Couple of times to top speed.

Still haven't calculated the mileage. But roughly its giving around 55kmpl.

Now my question is: If I ride like this will it affect the engine ? (all these bursting are done to hear the beautiful roar sound )
When starting in the morning I idle it for at least 2 minutes. But as soon as I press clutch and put in first gear, the bike jerks forward is this normal ?

Try to shift down along with speed. Don't shift from 5th to 4th in low speeds.

                Congrats to fellow riders.

and get ur bike tank filled upto brim again and see how much fuel went into it and let us know....

hard to believe a 5 litre reserve and a 67kmpl FE for city riding..

i even read on some sites online its 2 litres reserve

1.Bro do suggest me some good tyres for our road condition . Am serioulsly considering to change my tyres.

2.It wont affect the engine , but do try to ride in low rpm , like ride 60 in 5 th gear. and now that you completed 800 odd km , its fine if you burst to 80 and above . but keep in mind it will surely affect the mileage. I often drive in 65-70 and not reving too much (the more you rev the less mileage you get) and get constant FE around 65 to 67. But with the bursting sound it roars its hard to control . Isn't it?

3.Yeah am also getting the same problem . It kinds of jerks the first time you use but gets on smoother .

You got kenda tyres?? is the tyre that much bad??

And the FE is not purely in city ride . It bit mix up of highway and city riding . in the 388 km of ride , around 80 km in highways..

The problem occurs while shifting up . I have no problem with shift down . i change the gear frm 4th to 5th when am in 40 . it gets engages only if you slowly press the clutch and take your own time . It doesnt shift like the other gears..

                          1. I have asked prices for zapper-FS front and zapper-c, same as current tire size. Costs 4000rs for both.

                          2. Yea I put fifth gear at 40. The roar sound spoils me

                          3. Asked mechanic at first service, he told to idle the bike for more minutes.

I got eurogrip ones. The news ones come with kenda tires. They are Chinese/Taiwanese.

Yea my fault, didn't see 4th to 5th. I had this problem before 1st service like 4 or 5 times. But after 1st service, I had this only once.

from the above post i see the reserve is just 3.5 litres with 1.6 litres usable

so considering from tankfull u rode till reserve 388kms...so u consumed 7 litres and that translates to 55kmpl...this is believable

try to test it again...after u go to reserve put 1 litre petrol ride and see how much distance u covered before again going into reserve...thats ur mileage

it seems lot of owners are facing gearbox issues

Bro see the pic again . it says 3.5 litres usable. total reserve is 5.1 liters. and moreover i didnt even switch to reserve . the main litre is 5.5 litre . i dont know how you say its 7 litres .

as far as i have seen in other bikes..they mention reserve and usuable reserve.... i thought the reserve is 3.5l out of which 1.6 is usable....
                                so by than 10.5-3.5=7

i am confused with what manual says
so when u had full tank and now u are riding u have completed 388km

did u switch ur knob to reserve? u mentioned in ur post u changed to reserve the first time u said 388km and 67 kmpl

u hit reserve when u feel bike has no petrol in normal and u turn knob to reserve

even discover 125 normal version has a 10l tank and a 2.3litre reserve out of which 1.2 is unsable
5.1 litres reserve is unheard of in any bike in this category
why would a company keep half its fuel tank capacity for reserve?? it is very strange

                                ST owners please clarify
when ur bike goes into reserve(u have to turn ur knob to reserve) and u fill ur tank to brim...what amount of petrol goes in...
