The idle rpm recommended at workshop is 1500 +- 100. The idle rpm should be set with headlights ON. The engine should be warm when setting. Do also get your CO % checked.

I tried to analyse the problem, later found that it was because of water spilling on the starter motor.... Whenever water spills heavily from the tyre on to the starter motor, there is no response when you engage self.... I tried kicking the bike in the same situation & it started without a choke....

So clearly the problem is with self-start motor when it getz wet.... has anyone experienced this problem so far ?

I am facing a similar issue. My bikes self-start stopped working after the first rain that Chennai got this year. I was using kick start for few days. Never tried self-start. Took it to a service center and the moment he tried self-start, it worked. I was standing there like an idiot. Then it happened again. There was no rain this time. Went to a service center and this time also, it started without any issue. The third time I got lucky. It didn't start. SO the mechanic took it inside, did something and came back saying lose contact. It worked fine.

What I have noticed is that sometimes when we press the clutch to a perfect position, self-start works. You can test this by pressing the self-start button and slowly pressing the clutch. At one point the engine will make the sound you usually hear when it's starting.

Anyways, fast forward it stopped working yesterday. I was adamant. The service guy said he will fix it. Said he spray cleaned something and gave it back in working condition and today it stopped working. For good this time, no amount of careful clutch press was helping me out. When I told him, he said it will cost about 40rs to replace the switch. He said it won't be covered under warranty. I'm wondering if replacing the switch will work or not

The switch in the clutch lever assembly is not disengaging sometimes, which is causing the self start not working @ times for me..

I saw your post now. I'm guessing mine is the same issue as mentioned in the previous post. How did they figure out its clutch lever assembly problem. I don't think my service center guys are willing to make the change.

            Hello All,
Since the gixxer front fender does not cover the lower part of the type, the grime spraying while riding in the rains is more. Does it damage the engine fins or chassis in any way?I am planning to install a mud flap as given in the link below with the help of nut bolt arrangement. I'll have to drill thru the front fender:

Speedwav Bike Front Rubber Mud Flap Black-Suzuki Gixxer: Buy Speedwav Bike Front Rubber Mud Flap Black-Suzuki Gixxer Online at Low Price in India on Snapdeal

            Any suggestions welcome...

You can try to extend the mudguard so that it doesn't spray to the engine, you can see that the 1st generation KTM's did not have extended mudguards and rear shock protection cover but they do now.

I'm Anant from Ajmer. A proud owner of a blue gixxer. I've clocked around 1600 kms on it. And I'm loving every moment spent with it. Have gone through every page of this ownership thread.
I've a few doubts regarding the bike :
                1. Scratches on tank : There are a few scratches on the tank. I haven't been in any collision so far. This is my first bike so I'm a bit skeptical about it. Is there any coating or wax which would prevent scratches? I'm attaching a pic of the tank below.
                2. Handlebar : after seeing some pics on the internet and here, my head is playing tricks with me that my Handlebar is a bit "Bent" and it should be more "flat". Fz's Handlebar is flatter than our bikes, right? Or is it the same? I brought this issue with the svc too, during the first service. But they said that it's fine. I'm attaching a pic of the Handlebar too. Senior xbhpians and gixxerians, kindly give it a look and tell if it's fine or not.
                3. Engine oil : The guys at the svc have used idemitsu 10w40 engine oil. By looking at the price, I assume that it's semi synthetic. I ruled out the idea of using fully synthetic engine oil (Motul 7100 10w40) during the second service because it might not be wise to use fully synthetic engine oil this early. So the question is, should I stick with the stock idemitsu oil during the second service (which I'm thinking to get it done by around 2200 kms)or should I get shell ax7 10w40 and get it changed by a local mechanic?
                4. This is not a question but a piece of advice for the fellow gixxer owners. One fine day, when my friend who was sitting as a pillion was getting off the bike. While doing so, his leg collided with the rear right indicator. And guess what? It broke. It was working though. Had to use fevikwik to get it in its place. And then a couple of days later, it happened again, this time, with another friend. So, it's better to warn your pillion to be a bit careful while getting off the bike.
                Regards,
                Anant.
Someone? Still waiting for a response.

1.go for a teflon at the svc
The shine will help to hide the chipped of paints

                  2.dont be skeptical
                  Its perfectly fine

3.i ran the mineral motul for suzuki for nearly 10 months and now running on the idemitsu
No problem and significant improvement spotted
                  Its a matter of taste
If you find it happy to go for shell take a dip
For me i have find solace and 2 of my friends have used 7100 and they reverted back to mineral before changing to idemitsu
                  They are happy as well

                  4.a suggestion to you
While swinging your leg over the bike with tight jeans or big thighs be cautious
I have hit my feet two times on the bull horns
And angry lump of swollen blood was my neighbour for a few days

                  Sorry for the delay

Everyone here gets busy on a topic so its normal to overlook a few

Thanks for the reply mate. Any idea how much the Teflon coating would cost?

Service centres are fleecing customers in the name of Teflon coating. They only wax the bike normally and call it Teflon coated. I've read that teflon needs high temperature to bond with the surface, and this isn't practically possible.

You can wash the bike and wax it yourself instead of spending money on the so called "teflon coating".

                        Hi Brothers,
After so much struggle between hornet and Gixxer finally decided to go with Gixxer Naked with Rear disc. As i have booked for White/blue dual toned version. Delivery will take some ten days. Planning to upgrade Gixxer's headlight right after taking delivery since i know the weakness of Gixxer's headlight(I've used my friend's bike for couple of days). If i use philips 65w bulb will it effect my battery?

Thats a beautiful color. Did you TD the Hornet too? How was it compared to Gixxer?

Can the stock stator coil/battery handle a 65w? When some of them used a 55w on a stock GS, the results were not so expected, no improvement in lighting. Plus, you will be voiding warranty, if you are worried about it.

Yes I've taken a test drive on both.
Personally I've liked the Gixxer for its Exhaust output and the ride feel. Though all materials are looking cheap(if you look closely). But due to it's small pillion size, my girl has disliked it. When i rode Hornet i didn't felt anything like good or bad. It was just okay ride on Hornet. And i really got used to use engine kill switch which is missing in Hornet. I own yamaha FZ16 v1. I felt like Hornet is not superior in any of the aspects. Still i don't know which bike gives good mileage in city ride. But seating posture, quality of ride and that feel has stolen me.

Will HB3 65w really do damage to Gixxer's battery??
I really don't know. Someone shed some light on this.
