    • I have a Gixxer that I purchased in 2015, worked great until a stupid thing that I did recently. I went on a drive 600 Kms total and while returning I forgot to stop a bit to get the engine cooled and drove almost 170 Kms non stop at around 90- 100 Kmph speed constantly, suddenly the enine stopped making a zippin sound as if something slipped. After waiting for a few minutes it strted normally but the engine started to make a knocking sound. After visiting the service centre the guys there told me that I need engine repair and it'll cost 20K and it'll give me about 1L kms worth of life and mind you I have rode almost close to 1.5L kms with my bike without any engine issues.

My question is , is it worth to repair the engine? will it get revived completely?
How much should I pay for the work?
Should I go for authorised svc centres?
Sorry if the post is too long.

Haven't the told that the issue was?
        20k is too high.
Service centers are trying to increase Cost.

          • Hey guys I'm new to this forum

            So I have a 2015 gixxer 155cc
The problem is I'm currently posted in a primary health care centre and it does not have any service centre nearby and my front fork oil has leaked out

Could someone help me as to what alternate bike fork seal can be used in gixxer?

Also is the Apache rtr 160 engine oil filter the same as gixxer?

              • I did something very stupid. I filled up my Suzuki Gixxers petrol tank before the first lock down began, more than a year ago, and I barely rode her since. I started her a few times, and covered a few kilometers once in a while. She was running a little rough, but I put that down to disuse, and the petrol in the tank being old. She was making a put-put sound like an Enfield, whilst before she used to purr like a kitten.
I've been very busy over the last 2 1/2 years, and have barely ridden my bike. Even before the lockdown, her tank contained some old petrol, which the service center mechanic told me was the reason for the change in exhaust sound. I didn't drain the old petrol, instead I topped it up reasoning that diluting it would make the problem disappear.
Fast forward 2 years - my bikes battery went dead, and kick starting had no effect. I called a mechanic to service the bike and charge the battery. He informed me that due to the petrol turning rancid, the bikes carburetor had jammed. He put it in paint thinner for a couple of days, and the bike started working.
Initially she ran fairly smooth, and the put-put noise was much reduced.
But then she began stopping while running. I turned the carburetor screw to raise the idle rpm, and that helped for a bit, but soon she began stopping the moment I eased up on the throttle.
I took her to the service center today, where we noticed that there was black smoke coming from the exhaust at lower rpms, but cleared up when we raised the throttle. (The bike jerks a lot at low RPM's, but is pretty smooth at anything above 4000 revs.) The mechanic tried a different spark plug (the tip of ours was black), but that didn't help. An older mechanic at the service center, who didn't look too trustworthy, had looked at the bikes black smoke and told me that the engine head needed to be removed and serviced. The younger guy concurred after trying the spare spark plug.
The mechanic who'd serviced my bike and charged her battery had told me that the carburetor was jammed, and even though he'd cleaned it, it was still rough, and would get better with use.
I'm pretty clueless as to what the problem could be and I'd appreciate some help in getting my girl running smooth again.

                • I have 2017 Gixxer 155 (BS4). Whatever the engine oil I use, the oil goes below low level mark around 2000-2500 kms (If I ride at higher RPMs), if I ride at lower rpms (within city) it MAY last for around 3000 kms. I had the usual gasket leaking issue which I fixed it by asking the mechanic to use paste when installing a new gasket. There is no more leakage anywhere. The oil is not getting burned as there is no white smoke from exhaust. What could be the reason it is reducing this fast? 37,000+ kms completed in odo and bike is out of warranty. I am using Motul 5100 10w40 currently. Same problem with 7100 10w40, Shell Advance AX7 10w40 (SS) and Advance Ultra 10w40 (FS).

Please always clean and Lube this shaft area while cleaning the chain.
It is a very costly mistake if you neglect this part.
The cost of the part is just around 1000rs, If we neglect it, it will wear the slots/teeth to fit the sprocket.
To change this part you have to remove and dismantle the whole engine, there by cost around 4000-5000 including the cost of resulting oil change.

                    ###Keep this in mind###

                    • I have a 6-year-old gixxer and I think its battery has finally died. I had never changed my battery so far. It worked without any issue till a year back. Slowly bike stopped starting and the mechanic tried charging it but still, it wouldn't retain any charge so he mentioned that I might need to buy a new one. Another mechanic from gobumpr also said that since it's been 6 years it's time I change it. So what I want to know is:
                      1. Is it common to change the battery after 6-7 years?
                      2. Which battery should I buy? I stock one is Exide ETZ-4.
                      3. Anything I need to be aware of before buying a battery offline?
                      4. I stay in Thoraipakkam, Chennai. Any authentic dealer you know nearby to get good battery?

                      • Has anyone else had the same issue on their Gixxer 155? This is a 2017 model and the swingarm is corroded. I got to see this when I changed the tyres on my bike last weekend. It's surprising that the SVC didn't notice this in all these years that I've given my bike for its quarterly service. I've always given it to the same SVC all these years. I checked with them and they didn't have stock of the swingarm and they should be getting it in a day or two, but I'm surprised that such a critical component can get rusted to such an extent. Could it be a defect in the quality of the swingarm in a particular batch of bikes or is it just my bike that this is happening on?

                        • Hi Guys. Been really really long since I posted anything here. My Gixxer is now 7 years old and was running fine although I havent used much in the last 6 months due to a back issue. I am looking to get it services and then maybe dispose/ exchange for a scooter which can be used by wife/ running chores around my area.

I recently moved to Ashok Nagar (Chennai) and I dont know if there any good ASC near here. I would need a pickup drop facility preferably as the ASCs are atleast 4-5 kms away.. Else, any good local mechanic in this area also works. Kindly suggest.
