          If it would have not been sunday yesterday they would have given me the bike yesterday(because of bank holiday i was not able to pay)... this bike is easily available in delhi...

                Let me start with giving a quick intro of myself. I am a 27 year old married guy working in an IT firm in Hyderabad.
                This thread is going to talk about the ownership experience in terms of moving from a 150 to 650cc bike. Because that was the first of the many scares I had when I thought of getting a second bike. So lets dive into the story of how I met my second love (First one is R15 ).

                Myself:
                I started with a Bajaj scooty 'spirit' in school and was given Platina to complement my moving into college. Having being deprived of any sort of fun in terms of ride, first thing I got from my first salary was the best (No offenses to RE but I was into driving fast and blitz) 1-lac bike available at that time (2009 June). Given the rains in Hyderabad, where it drizzles continuously rather than raining cats and dogs and getting over with, I decided to get a car for weekend drives. In Dec 2010 I got a i10. Since then my major liabilities would be getting married and starting a home loan a year and a half back. All the while my R15 kept me connected to being a boy who liked speed.

                First steps to upgrade:
                Most of you will know the 'feeling' when a bike speeds by and you just know that you have to beat that 'awesome' rider. In my 6 years of R15 I moved form being kind of road to second rate bike owner as bikes like CBR and NInja began to crowd the streets. It was difficult to overtake and that too came down to bridging the power gap with skills. The R15 also deteriorated and around 6 months back I realized that I need a new ride.

                Craze overpowers Caution and practicality
                As with all middle class parents, the only guidance I got was to get a new car and just stop with the "unsafe" bike stuff. Somehow I could not bring myself to agree to that. I started looking for a smaller economical upgrade which my parents do not find a "waste of money". While looking for 250 cc bike, I ran into Hyosung Aquilla. One thing led to another and I was looking at Aquilla Pro and Harleys. I went into crazy "IT engineer" mode where I will do all the research on laptop, watching "Powerdrift" and round the world videos, looking into more motorcycles even the ones not available in India. Finally I decided that I want a naked bike, since racing posture might not sit with me 3-4 years down the line and cruising would be too boring.

                The big scare:
                Luckily Benelli was offering test rides. I went to the showroom and found the beast eye-grabbing and intimidating. Just sitting on it scared me out of wits as to how will I manage it on the road. I ended up taking no test ride since I was not even sure if I can get the bike up the ramp onto the road. I began rethinking my decision to even move to bigger bikes. My wife reprimanded me and said I am being stupid but reality was I was deep scared. Makinga 150 cc bike touch 100 seems momentous but keeping a super bike steady at even 60 felt scary. The bikes were 80 kgs heavier than R15. I have had 3-4 falls on my R15 but I always felt a sense of control during the fall, but here I did not feel the confidence even while sitting on a stationary bike.

                The Godsend:
                While looking through xbhp, I found a ninja owner in Hyderabad, [MENTION=25107]rusty[/MENTION]mechs82. I decided to reach out to him and ask some questions. Hats off to him, he offered me to take a look at the bike in person and may be ride it. When we met he let me drive in onwards route of 7-8 kms. While he encouraged me to shift up at 10-11k rpm, I was content at shift-ups at 5-7k range. The power was amazing and I did not budge above 100, for I was feeling happy that I can manage the bike. On way back he drove the bike and touched 177. Phew! All the traffic seemed to come to a standstill and it was like only I was moving. At the end of it, I was ocnvinced that I can manage a 650 cc bike at speeds I am used to and gradually move to higher speeds.

                The faceoff - Ninja 650 vs ER6n vs 600i

                FTW, I explored Triumph but the power(torque) figures were way too less compared to either of the three. For some reason the riding position of Ninja wrt the riding posture seemed like fairing was out on to give it a racing gene (I feel that atleast us Indians reverse-imply fairing to a racing bike, Dhoom effect) but in real it is what it is meant to be Tourer. In my own Analogy I will compare it to Fazer than R15. It is then that Er-6n began to gain ground in my mind. NBow it was down to Er-6n vs 600i. I will call out the pros and cons of both based on my preferences.

                Benelli 600i
                Pros:
                • Killer looks, VFM for 6 lacs
                • Twin exhaust with awesome sound
                • Terrific torque figures

                Cons:
                • New to Indian market and Thailand/Malaysian forums did not seem overwhelmed by its presence for over a year in their markets.
                • DSK-Hyosung disaster hence service expertise and spare availability concerns
                • All the discussion around Keeway motors.
                • Pillion rider sits way too high and hence not comfortable for long rides.
                • Less low and mid-range torque and have to rev-up high for gaining max. I personally do not want to rev up at high rpms.
                • Not best for city driving and my maximum number of rides would be commuting in city outskirt.
                • Long term ownership cost high as told on international forums


                Kawasaki ER-6n
                Pros:
                • Terrific torque figures with string low and mid-range torque
                • Scores of Ninja owners in India, hence service and bike experts would be available.
                • Excellent brand image of Kawasaki and its motorcycles without any exception in any country
                • Well established accessories and upgrades available.
                • International forums consider Er-6n as perfect bike for beginners (by their standard of 1000c bikes). I would like to consider myself bikes in big power bike segment.
                • Ownership cost is minimal.


                Cons:
                • Shitty ground clearance. Might as well hit anything higher than 4 inches
                • Does not look bulky and intimidating. People will not give it a second look.
                • Not much enthusiasm about it in Indian riders community.
                • Only black color but I found a mod online where black and red sit very well. So next steps would be to get more red on


                Given that I was into city ride and wanted to be a hassle free owner for less time on my hands, I decided to go for established brand of Kawasaki. Being less intimidating contributed in decision making as well.

                The booking
                I made the booking on 9th of May and was told that I will get the delivery by 22nd May. One thing led to another and the delivery got postponed to 3rd June. In the meantime, I got R&G frame sliders from a colleague on his way back from a trip to US.

                When I drove off, first thing I noticed was the power surge. I had a jerky ride for some 4-5 minutes. It scared my wife to core who was clinging to me and shouting words of encouragement. Soon I got used to the power and was able to shift gears and accelerate more linearly.

                I think this a long enough post. Will pour in more details of ownership. Stay tuned for what happened when I re-drove my R15 a couple of weeks later

                    1. Cost of er6n and 650f 2015 and showrooms you guys bought it from
                    2. Hows the maintanance and service schedule..
                    3. Approx cost of ownership per year?
                    4. Cost of spares and waiting periods if someone has ever needed them?
                    5. Average fule consumptio (dont hate me -_- )

                      Awesome Meetanshu bhai...We were waiting for the ownership read from your end. And Wish you million miles on your new steed,. A great choice indeed.
                      Even I had zeroed down to these 2 - ER-6n and 600i. But Inline 4 won my heart and fell for it. Booked mine today in Chennai.

                          Can any one help me.

                          Last few days i have noticed rust on my front both disc brakes. Is rusting of disc brakes normal. I found it quite abnormal as owning a FZ 16 i never had such issue nor do i have it now. In any case after paying such a hefty price for the bike doesn't there is something called QUALITY PRODUCT. Is this was is expected of spending so much money for such lousy QUALITY.

                          I am thinking of going back to the showroom and seek complete replacement of disc brakes with new ones. No doubt, I am going to ask them do the same free of cost as the bike is still under warranty.

                          Kindly provide me suggestions.

                            Shudnt be happening. Consult the service centre and ask for replacement. Shud be free of cost under warranty except the brake pads themselves.

                              if you have left the bike unused for many days in humid areas it happens. once you start riding it will go off in just 1-2 km ride. once or twice you apply brake. however if its getting worse check with SVC.

                                It happens if you are near to sea side but if it's good quality it won't happen. Once I rode my Hyosung 650 to a beach in Kerala with my friends riding p220 and cbr250. We stayed in a beach side house and next day morning I found rust in the disc plates although the Pulsar and CBR was doing just fine. This is expected from Hyojunk but not Ninja. Definitely ask for a replacement.
