    • Suzuki Gixxer sf - wheel bearing noise

      Hi !

This is my first post in XBHP . It was my dream to buy a bike when I was doing my B tech. I graduated in last May and joined one of the IT companies in Bangalore ( Duh !)

First thing I did was , saved money and bought a Suzuki Gixxer sf (The motoGP edition).

      So here is the problem,

I have a some 'tak tak' kind of noise coming from back wheel when I decelerate . The noise will not come when accelerating . I had told the showroom ( in Domlur ) about the problem , they said its a chain problem and they will fix it . But I faced the same issue again. I showed the bike to couple of other mechanics and they also did the same thing (Putting some chain lube ) .

After 5 mechanics , There was one guy who detected that problem is not with the chain. He says its the problem with bearing and need to get it replaced from suzuki showroom .

But whenever I take my bike to Domlur suzuki services centre they say they dont hear any noise and there is no problem with bike .

Can anyone suggest me some suzuki service centre (In Bangalore) where the guy over there has patience to listen to my problem and replace it ?

Or anyone else facing the same issue ?

PS : bike ridden 2700kms so far.

There is a guy on the Gixxer naked thread. TrulyPulsarian He sold his 220 and bought a Gixxer. Its that popular a bike. The AS150 is for those who cant afford the 200, but want the same look. Posers. And college kids, who want to show off.
That's actually a good quote. I own a gixxer right now and previously I had an RTR 180 with ABS. I can't express how calm my rides are at present and most importantly butter smooth. I don't feel much difference in power and to be honest this bike's driveability in the city traffic is much much better with fewer gear changes, be it solo or with heavy pillion, compared to rtr. For people who ask this question, do not buy a bike just with what you read on web, just try the bike once and see if it appeals to you. I just lost a few benefits like not being able to carry older pillions and petty luggage with gixxer. Other than that it's stiff and handles so well in dry and in wet. RTR needs some upgrade of tyres to enhance wet handling. Trust me, the rear fat tyre makes a lot of difference too compared to the puny ones in AS150, rtr 160,180 and Hero xtreme.

I have decided to switch to shell ultra two weeks ago as I was already using AX7 and want to change due to my upcoming long trip.
In porur shell if you buy Ultra, you get 5% off on petrol. Ultra is costly about rs860. I got it changed in shell bunk itself and got my tank filled. They also gave a Pepsi 600ml free as i got petrol for more than rs500.
After driving for 5 minutes, I can feel a subtle change in the tone of the engine.
Within the same week I had completed 100km, and the gearshifts has become much smoother. It's just like the day I got my bike, but the oil has to heat up sufficiently for this to happen. I will tell the SVC about hard gearshifts in my next service.
I just came back from a 500km+ ride and the bike was cruising at 100. I usually cruise at 85-90 before the oil change and now I feel confident enough to push it a little further.
P.S - this is what I have experienced after using Shell ultra after 4200km on odo. You may or may not have the same experience with this oil.
I got my first servicing done today.. and opted for Motul full synthetic 10w40..costing around ₹800. I had to buy and hand over to them.. and one of the agent said some benefits of full synthetic are less vibrations on high speed, smooth engine sound, etc.. and I could feel the smoothness while driving back home. Will see how it turns out after more riding..

It was too early to switch, engine and other moving parts in crankcase usually take first few thousand kms to mate properly.

Even mineral oil sounds smooth in the initial few hundred kms after replacement. I assume you went for Motul 7100 10w40, tell us about after riding on for say 4000 kms.

PS: Again, you cannot reap the benefits of Fully-Synthetic as engine is still mating and short engine-oil change intervals are recommended. Replacing the current Motul 7100 10w40 after 4,000 kms will be a mistake.

oh ok.. as for first servicing anyways we have to change engine oil, I opted for this FS one. Hope it will have some benefits if not all, due to engine mating what you mentioned above. But I didn't get your point below, where you mentioned short change intervals are recommended.. but then also mentioned changing this will be mistake? what I have read is to change regular oil at 4k intervals, and FS at 10k intervals. Though I don't mind changing FS as well around 4-6k interval of that's helping performance and engine life.

                  by gross generalisation.

Fully-Synthetics should have a life in them for least 4,000 kms; i.e. keeping TBN and viscosity index in usable range.
For minerals that falls to 2,000 km
                  semi-synths for 3,000 km

Using Fully-Synths oils too early only stretch the mating period.

I wonder if new engine when revved severely with fully-synth in crankcase cause glazing.

Hey guys has anyone got any idea about 'Idemitsu 10W40' semi-synthetic oil.
The SVC guys tend to use this oil over the Motul 10W40 semi-synthetic.

I checked both the oils and both are recommended by Suzuki, but where my doubt lies is that is it good enough?
I have been using this oil since after the second service, initially the oil felt way better than the Motul variant, but as i kept clocking km's with this oil i started noticing that its effects wears off really fast, the gear shifts initially are butter smooth, but as the oil wears off, downshifting gets way to stiff, the gears get stuck during a downshift and are not really proper.

If anyone has any idea about the oil please do share.

Are those Gixxer (naked) mirrors? Don't they touch the fairing at full turn of the handle?

Hello.. yes got fixed the Gixxer-Naked handle bar mirrors. No they don't touch the fairing for full turn, as they are on top of handle bar and not in front of the bar. So as the handle never touches fairing, it is not an issue. Also I feel it's much easy to drive in traffic and stock mirrors limited mobility due to wide reach.

P.S.: Stock mirros got loose after couple of weeks, and difficult to adjust them while riding. Read that it is repeated and known issue that once loose they won't get fixed and will need frequent visits to SVC to tighten them.

                              Over-torquing is the bane here!
People can use a spring washer with the screw and tighten the bolt. Also, we should refrain from making that one-last-try-of-tightening-the-goddamn-thing.
