  • [Ownership Thread]: Hero Duet

It all started when my dad got transferred to a nearby workplace which is only 17 kms one way. So, he needed a new bike. Since then, he was using my passion pro but some days I use to drop him and pick him back in the evening. At first, splendor pro was decided but I was interested in buying a scooter.

The reason behind that was, scooter can carry more luggage than a bike. So, the search for a scooter began (on the internet, of course!!) in the month of September 2015 and decided to buy maestro for it's big appearance.
One day while just going through the Hero website, there were 2 new launches viz; the Duet and the maestro edge. I liked the Duet then and there for no reason. After a few days, me and dad went to Hero showroom to see the scooter. For our surprise, the scooter was launched a day before (in Tiruvannamalai) and we were offered a test ride too. I was satisfied with the smoothness, build quality, and the sweet engine note. Dad too felt the same. On inquiring further with the showroom guys, we came to know that there were 2 models namely the LX and VX.

The VX model has body coloured mirrors, telescopic front forks, analogue- digital speedo, boot light and USB mobile charger. The boot light and mobile charger is optional in the LX model. We booked the VX model on November 18, 2015 and the waiting period started. I use to visit the showroom for more than 5 times a week. The LX model was available but the VX was not!. Later in December, due to heavy rains the load was further delayed and the sales manager was clueless about the next load.
On december 27th when I went to the showroom as usual, to my surprise an RJ registered container was standing there. Our scooter was also in it. Talked with the showroom guys and went home after they promised me to deliver the scooter the next day. On December 28, I got a call from the showroom guy that the scooter had come and we may take it. So, went to showroom with some family friends and rode home. The machine is really too much smooth. Hero offered us a Rs.2000 discount (cash back) since I own a hero vehicle.

Fitted brake lever cover, floor mat, handle bar grip as extra fittings. Did not fit the grill set as i hate it and are prone to rust. The side stand is yet to arrive and will be fit at 1st service. Clocked some 70 kms on the odo and happy as the scooter is a pleasure to ride. Will post the pics soon.

Yes, they handed over Rs.2000 and with that money extra fittings was paid. Did not take it for a proper photo shoot since I was engaged in family works, year end you see. Posting some pics now which was taken from mobile. So excuse the picture quality. Will post proper pics within this week.

                Re: Hero Duet

Duet is going for registration tomorrow. At present, there are only 2 niggles.

                * The high beam is a bit high.

                * A side-panel vibrating sound in between the speeds of 10 to 20 kmph.

Fuel efficiency at present: 49 kmpl.

                Odo reading today.

                  Congratulations !

The ODO reads as 348 kms and the scooter is going for registration only tomorrow (i.e today)??

The high beam and panel vibration can be adjusted by the service guys..

Yes, the vehicle was delivered in the last week of December and runs 40 kms on weekdays. Yesterday, the showroom guy called and informed that the scooter should be registered today, and it is done.

Yeah, waiting for the first service. They will fix that i guess.

Registration got over. There were a lot of new bikes viz; heros, hondas, tvs, yamahas. Quite a sight to see! After the R.T.O signed the papers, went for a spin to click some pictures. There were 6 duets for registration including mine.

                      Nice screenshots.!

From the images, it looks that you have not fitted the side stand?.
when I went into their showroom, they said side stand and ladies foot rest are not included and need to buy as an extra fitting? Is this the case with your dealer also.

Think, I will also go for Duet, instead of waiting for Maestro EDge for another couple of months.!

                        Thanks.

Regarding the ladies footrest and side stand, my dealer said the same thing as your dealer said, but he did not charge me. He told me that, since i waited for more than one month, they are not charging for those.

Maestro Edge is not launched here too. You can go for duet. It is very smooth.

                          Yes, am seriously considering..

In the meantime, can you please clarify:

Side stand indicator: Is this only an indicator or you will also get a beep sound alongwith the indicator??

External fuel filling: I have read in some reviews wherein they mentioned that ' external fuel filling with buzzer'' - are you getting some kind of sound when the petrol tank cover/lid??

Regarding side stand indicator, I have not fit one, so don't know about the buzzer sound. There is a light for side stand indicator in the meter console though.

When the fuel cap is opened, there will be a beep sound for about a second. The ignition will be in off position. When the ignition is turned on with the fuel cap open, there will be a looong beep sound till the tank is closed.

Completed 470 kms today. After crossing 500 km mark, will give it for 1st free service.

                              Thanks clarification.

Beep sound while petrol tank cap is open is good feature as some petrol pump guys do not close the lid properly after filling petrol and if we dont notice that, it may result in petrol spilling out (and also it could prove danger).

If Side stand warning sound also there which will helpful as most of the time I used to forgot to fold the side stand in a hurry and resulting the side stand scratches down on the road..!
