  • Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan

    Hi guys.
I own Himalayan Snow. And the problems such as oil seepage (to a minimal extent ) is still there. And so is present in almost all RE's. I've finished 3.8k Kms and the bike just keeps feeling better.

I've been working around the Crab settings and the air-fuel mixture screw. Does anybody know the stock carb settings?
Has anybody tried a different crab settings ?
    All answers will be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

      Crab settings?? Lol

I'm almost about to book the bike. Can you post about other problems you are facing? And when did you buy the bike?

        Carb settings*.
No problems .I've seen a lot of people venting out their problems on YT and Twitter and other platforms on various issues. But none of that has occurred for me. I guess all those problems were rectified after the "proactive measures" (Recall ) from RE.

Observations after 2 days & 70kms of riding:

          1. The bike has done 200kms as of today. Needs to be warmed up for minute or two before setting off, mainly because it is a new bike and the temperature is below 20C all day. I take back what I said about the horn. It is loud enough but a bit more of a tweeter than a honker. If you know what I'm saying.
          2. Jerky acceleration and engine lugging during the 1st and 2nd gear from 1000rpm to 2000rpm. To ride away smoothly I'm keeping it around 1500-2000rpm and never exceeding 3000rpm during normal riding. The bike can stall and it has once, if starting below 1500rpm. While overtaking or speeding up at empty stretches, to give the engine some variations in speed I use the 3000rpm to 3500rpm band, rarely reached 4000rpm, never exceeded. Does the carburetor need tuning or it should be left as it is only to be taken care of during the first service?
          3. The 1st gear is stiff and finding neutral can be tricky at times. I agree on this as expressed by other Himalayan owners that going to neutral from the 2nd gear is easy than the 1st. The manual mentions moving the bike forth and back while it is off, toggling the gearshift lever at the same time to slot it into neutral. It is helpful and makes it easier to do so.
          4. I noticed 2 separate friction points on the gear shift lever while upshifting. It feels like you have slotted it but not completely and then it goes up and gets slotted correctly. Is this normal or something unique to particular machines?
          5. Headlight points a bit more towards the sky than the road. Sometimes it gives the impression to the rider that the headlights are off as you can't see the illuminated area on streets with the streetlights on.
          6. Brakes have a tad bit more bite to them now. They haven't been pushed hard so far. Maybe I should do some braking variations in an enclosed or isolates road/area to give them a little workout?

Last night while parking the bike I the gear got stuck in between and the console showing "-" instead of "1" or "N" as shown in the picture below. Toggling the lever sometimes flashed "5" on the display. Took me a few tries to get it to the 2nd gear and then neutral from there. Happened another time but in a few tries it went from the 1st to neutral. I always rock the bike forth and back when it is stationary and the ignition off to slot it into neutral, but this phenomenon does happen a few times, usually when coming to a halt. Any and all insights from members are utmost valuable.

          Thanks and regards.

You have travelled a long way my friend. The bike looks stunning. After reading your post in the morning and seeing one in person in the evening made me think, It looks more like a giraffe :-)

I personally like the rear portion of the bike rather than the front.. the carved tyres and rugged mudflap gives it dirt bike feel..hehe! The only name that struck my mind after seeing this bike is ‘Night Fury’ or may be ‘ toothless’ from ‘How to train your dragon’ movie. Do let us know what do you decide.

I again wish you pure happiness and fun when you ride this bike. Do invest in some good riding gear as well. I am waiting for that ownership thread of yours.

          Peace!

Much, much thanks brother! "One flew over the Cuckoo's nest" nice reference and a really lovely movie by the way.

It is pretty big and makes the other bikes feel puny. One guy in my office who rides an Apache said, "sirji mere bike ke side mai park mat karo isse, bahot chota feel hota hai, jaise ki koi aukkat hi nahi hai apache ki." But then, we all know that an Apache can give the Himalayan a run for its money in the city. Out there in the wild, on the ridge and over the creek, it is the Himalayan's turf.

High Five for the love of the rear section. I feel the same way about it. When I test rode the bike, I was stunned by looking at the bike from the behind. I guess we all can say "Dat Ass!!!"
Night fury/ Toothless is a cool suggestion. Really love that dragon.

Thank you once again for the wishes and yes I will invest in the best gear I can afford. Will hopefully start will the TBG jacket or a Solace with level 2 sastec armor all around and slowly build from their.

          Cheers and regards.
          Ride safe!

Thank you. Black Mamba is a nice suggestion. By the way this came to my mind when I read Black Mamba.

Got it with the bike from the khan market store. Definitely!
I'm still waiting for the crash guard/engine protector. Has anyone got one on their bike?

                Cheers and regards.

So for those who don't know, I have booked my himalayan and was called informing that the bike has just reached the showroom.

They still need a week to complete the formalities but I had requested to be called once the bike arrives so got a call.

Happy that it's HA on the Vin so jan'17 , the bike was still dusty but I saw a small scratch on the tank was informed they would remove it while polishing (not sure). Let's see how this goes, mostly would get it by end of next week.

It's like the marriage syndrome, right. First you are so zeal into getting married, then once you're married or you're engaged, all of a sudden, you start getting all these gremlines you go, should I get married now? Is it the right time? Am I screwed for life? Well, your plot is something similar Jokes apart, if you paid a significant amount for booking, I'd suggest you go for it.

Coming to performance, first off, remember this isn't a superbike to talk about performance figures that matter so much at an atomic level. At a basic level, you can compare this to a Pulsar 220 that does everything but with a longer suspension and relaxed seating position. You can find numerous, nice reviews in YouTube that show in depth performance and capabilities this bike has to offer. This is basically a crude off roader from RE. For what it's worth, it does the job well.

Do post some detailed photos and your first ride experience. Though the Himalyan has been out there for a while now, it's reliability and longevity has always been a hit or miss, especially the older ones. Keep posting your first impressions, photos, reviews, anything you can so that it helps prospective buyers.

                        Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                        The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                        THE END
