  • Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan

Update: The RE dealer on Sohna road, Gurgaon is selling a different kind of crash guard than what some people have installed and it costs 2200 bucks. While he claimed the company has sent it, I'm not too sure as it looked aftermarket. But it will certainly provide better protection in case of a crash than the earlier one which is more of an engine protector than a leg-guard. Will try to get pictures of it.

Typical RE quality. They should've put aluminium wheels. People call it an off roading motorcycle but i don't agree.

Well easy to blame RE quality when looking at the crashed pic because it's all mangled... But when you look at the pics above it is clear that the wheels were still round when the tyre came off!.

So the mangled wheel was due to accident but the accident was due to the tyre coming off.

running very low pressure and then drag due to high speed can easily cause this... basic physics.. not really RE to be blamed and i am not a RE fan boy...

Exactly my thoughts. I am not a typical RE lover (mostly because of typical attitude of RE owners) but the tyre accident has nothing to do with RE. It was an off road event, everyone knows how people ride in them and with stock things, they are bound to go through some "tough times"

I don't get it . By this you mean it's a common occurrence at such races and same has happened to numerous different bikes of all makes ?? It looks pretty dangerous and I don't feel a properly fitted and pressured tubeless tyre ( or even a tubed one ) would de-rim just like that , whatever the road ! and they must be checking wheel/tyre condition & tyre pressures at least before race event ? looks like a structural problem with wheel most probably during manufacture to me .

Do check out desert storm and raid the himalaya's bike, you will get your answer. And also do check what after market accessories they use.

Also lets take an example, if you have street tyes on R1 and take it to track with that , and burn the hell out of then while doing the laps, they will wear off in 2-3 laps, will someone blame Yamaha for that or the person who used street tyres instead of slicks. (Just an example)

When KTM launched, everyone went against its alloy quality, same with R15/FZ , even CBR250 was not spared. Why the hell we have to pull something down, wanna get into competition, come out with better product rather tan maligning the name of your competitor.

Like I mentioned & some others also pointed out that the tyre comming off was the reason for the accident. Someone did mention about low pressure... the above post seals the case.

I saw someone calling out himalyan & RE in one of the posts where the bike had fallen into the mud pool!!! I mean seriously... is it Bike's fault that rider fell!!

I'm not sure why but some people simply wanna bash RE & other Indian brands no matter what without even looking into the evidences & straightaway jumping to conclusions.

possible it would have hit a nail and leaked air pretty soon. i have seen tyre coming off our old priya scooters in cases of puncture weight and non radial...
could have been the very same here. add high speed and bad turf..
