Re: Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
I completely agree with @ chakrapani... Even i am in the race now to convert the my interceptor to GT.... [emoji1696]Originally posted by Chakrapani View PostThe human nature is completely unpredictable. I bought Interceptor and after riding it for a year on stock set up changed over to GT 650 riding setup because I loved the committed riding position. [emoji16] I have done a couple of long rides as well. The committed position is not that bad. One needs to get used to it.
Well go ahead and change around the ergonomics, it will be worth it. If you want super comfortable ergonomics go for Art of Motorcycling handlebars and footpeg extenders from Indimotard. Better to get it done at a mechanic's. I am attaching screenshots for reference. You can look up the respective websites. Both are Bangalore based.
If you need a simpler option then just change the handlebar and retain the original footpegs. You see the Interceptor footpegs tend to hit your shins when you are trying to manoeuvre your bike from the seat in traffic or while pulling out of tight parking spots. Just sit on Interceptor and try to move the bike around with your feet for about 20 mtrs and do a U turn. You will know what I am talking about.
Hope this helps.

Re: Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
So finally got my engine guard/ leg guard and back rest with carrier form Zana. Looks good as of now. My wife is used to with the comfortable pillion position of HD Street 750 , also the footboards that I got fitted form Harley. So she was finding it difficult to adjust in GT. Today got the footboard fitted in Gt from ADV Tribes. Though fitted it with some jugaad. Will customise some clamp to fix the footboard.

Nice work there...But please do finish proper fitment of the footpeg plates/ boards to prevent any freak accident.Originally posted by maadyy View PostSo finally got my engine guard/ leg guard and back rest with carrier form Zana. Re: Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
Greetings! I have been looking for GT (or INT650) and looks like wait periods are all over the place since RE factory is just starting production again and they are sitting on sweet 40000 back-orders. Anyhoo, that prompted me to look for used examples and surprisingly, possibly because of the covid situation, there are quite a few examples in mint condition available with as low mileage as 1200 kms. One of the INT650 has 77kms on it. The examples I am looking at are either ice queen / Dr.Mayhem color, all from 2019 with mileage below 5000 kms and priced around Rs. 2.75L - 2.90L. Price seems negotiable but I honestly don't know what is a good deal for these bikes?
I am keen and don't mind used bike especially with such low miles on the clock. OTR price of custom colored GT is 3.54L here. A 75k or more savings over a brand new one looks pretty alluring to me for a 1200-4500 km usage. I was anyway planning to get LED headlamp and few other accessories, so the savings from used bike would be great
.
Any advice what to check? Any weak points specific to these bikes? Also, is it a reason for worry that the bikes are BS4 and not BS6? I visited showroom nearby and per the sales rep, only difference between BS4 and BS6 is the relocated cat-con on BS6.

Well that's a great decision which you're taking, i bought my gt a year ago and just checked olx after a few days and that was my biggest regret ever, so many interceptors and gt and in mint condition. All of them under 5k kilometers and many accessories installed even exhausts!Originally posted by sleepy capybara View PostGreetings! Regarding checking the bike, you can check the disc pads for wear, tyre tread left, any dents or dings on the bike, moreover you can take the bike to service center and get it checked as well.
The bike was launched in the end of 2019 so every bike available on olx is fairly new and in warranty, so you don't have to worry about any future issue. Moreover you can even get the extended warranty for further peace of mind.
The money you'll be saving by going for a used bike will be used for getting any modifications done, or changing the consumables on the bike. To me getting a used bike is the best way to go, you pay the actual value of the bike. Get Gt in any colour and swap the tank with any colour you want.
Do keep us posted with the purchase, good luck
Peace

I bought an Olympus camera and two weeks later they sold the brand to an investing company. The prices tanked immediately afterwards. Such is life.
Speaking of accessories, it seems that the sump guard and small crash guard are de-facto addons that buyers get at the time of purchase as all these used bikes have them. I haven't found one with custom exhaust but for now I like the stock setup. Too wide and slightly too big but sounds good. Hope someone comes up with 2-in-1 exhaust!
Great help, and thanks! So I can buy warranty from factory on a used bike? This is great, although numerous reports on interweb have me convinced that these bikes are MUCH more reliable than the RE of yore and frustrating niggles that plagued old Bullet, Classic, or even Thunderbird are pretty much non-existent here -the warranty might not be needed, touchwood, but good to know.Originally posted by yashasvi View PostThe bike was launched in the end of 2019 so every bike available on olx is fairly new and in warranty, so you don't have to worry about any future issue. Re: Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
Our roads are very unpredictable and and our speed breakers are atrocious. The sump guard protects the oil filter and is the second most functional accessory. The first being crash guard. The small one is pretty useless but looks good. Hence you would find these two on almost all used bikes. But I would recommend the larger crash guard, it actually protects the engine and exhaust pipes in the event of a fall. A few variants of the crash guard you could look at are by Zana and by Indimotard.Originally posted by sleepy capybara View PostYOLO

A two in one exhaust is already available. Has been developed by a firm called SS Moto. Here is a link

Re: Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
On the other hand, some people are tired of committed riding position of GT and have converted it into INT650, like this one I saw on OLX. Is it just me or the owner has also put in longer tubes on the front shocks? It looks unusually tallOriginally posted by sim7727 View PostI completely agree with @ chakrapani... Re: Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
Something is different with the front suspension indeed, maybe it's due to the bike being on main stand.Originally posted by sleepy capybara View PostOn the other hand, some people are tired of committed riding position of GT and have converted it into INT650, like this one I saw on OLX. Due to the lean forward riding stance it does gets tiring if you are riding in traffic for too long or the roads are bad. When we apply brakes our weight transfers to our hands which results in the pain, so riding in traffic and bad roads gets tiring after a while. But on empty roads or highways the bike is a hoot to ride.
when i made the purchase i was also confused between interceptor and gt due the riding stance, and finally i thought that i can always convert gt into interceptor, so i bought the gt.
The bikes are very reliable, the only issue being the tubed tyres. After owning Tubeless tyred bike for 9 years it is really PITA to get the puncture fixed. Moreover the gt doesn't have a main stand and you to use a car jack to remove the tyre.
But the RE road side assistance covers puncture as well, so you can always call them and get your puncture fixed.Peace

Re: Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
Yup. tubed tires make me nervous too. Haven't had tubed wheels since 2007. Going back to tubed setup seems like a step backwards but I suppose thats the price we have to pay for cool retro look of spoked wheels. Some third party manufacturers are making spoked wheels with tubeless but they cost an arm and leg. This is probably the reason why companies don't go for these wheels as OEM and stick to normal tubed wheels. Spoked tubeless replacement (Alpina) for Triumphs were upwards of $2k for the pairOriginally posted by yashasvi View PostThe bikes are very reliable, the only issue being the tubed tyres. I guess Outex (I am not fully convinced) and just hoping that you don't get a flat are our best bets

Re: Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
I have faced two punctures till now and luckily first time i was at my home and the second time i was at a friend's bike repair shop, so i didn't had to drag my bike to the puncture shop. But i dread the day when i would face a puncture on the highway away from a puncture shop.Originally posted by sleepy capybara View PostYup. tubed tires make me nervous too. Re: Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
Just did a 950km sector - Bangalore - Hampi - Pune. No issues at all except a bad stretch near Solapur which caused issues on the part that meets the seat. Bear in mind I've toured on the Apache and NS200 before this so I was used to the position. But the ride on the CGT was a pleasure!Originally posted by Aranya Dutta View PostWhat about the touring with gt 650 ??

Thanks mateOriginally posted by Night_rider View PostHi All,
Update: I am about to return back home in a weeks time. Have been dwelling deep into reading about cafe racers. Now the confusion has set in between 2 bikes. Im not sure if they are comparable....first being Continental Gt and the second Ducati scrambler cafe racer. I am hoping to find a sweet deal on a used Ducati scrambler cafe racer and of course I like that bike more than RE.
Price point is an issue, but if I get lucky in finding a used one closer to RE I am planning to get it......Of course condition of the bike considered.
Any thoughts on the above?
Cheers!!!

Re: Royal Enfield Continental GT 650
I’m looking to switch the tail-light on my CGT to LED. I’m pretty much inclined to change the entire assembly to a Cafe Racer style, but I haven’t found any good options yet. Anyone know of any such tail lamps here?-------------------
