Its an add on to the original one. Its made of Fibre, and covers the entire swingarm in such a manner that it looks one piece... If the entire swingarm was made of metal, it would add too much weight to the bike..

@farfromnormal - Thanks man.. this was not upto the mark.. i will try and improve soon with the help of my friends..

        • Just bought a Fz16 rear hugger - now going downstairs to see if it fits on the Ninja. Should be quick and painless; will post a DIY if all goes well.

If not, then I would have just lost Rs.110 and an afternoon

Update: Not quick and painless - involves cutting the hugger on the left side and figuring out some attachment. Will give a try tomorrow and also pm Itzli for how he did it on his Ninja

ps jd666: The list price for the hugger is Rs.110...

          • yes it invloves drilling the swingarm, tapping it with an M6 and then having an L clamp made. Prasanna may say the warranty is void ;-)

            • Ooh... Drilling the swingarm I will avoid.
I will figure out a workaround about that so that I keep all the alterations to the plastic hugger. But anyway, can you please send me the pictures? I pm'ed you my gmail id a few seconds ago.

You will be better off waiting to pick up the A-tech one from Japan.

BTW - I am expecting my Carbon Fiber rear hugger soon. Mine is a simpler one - didnt kind of like the idea of covering the swingarm with a carbon fiber cover.

There is this guy in Bangkok who is making exact replica's of the A-tech huggers.

Not sure if there is anyone in Delhi who could replicate if given a sample.

                • Hey guys,

Hope all of you are having a good weekend.
Just attached the B2 industries fender eliminator today. The tyre looks great once the fender is out. I will post some pics once i have the shogun crash kit
                  fixed. - Karan.

                  • @bluevolt - sadly i paid 150 bucks for it.. i got my hugger today as well.. also the 40t sprocket from the FZ to try on the R15.

i think an instant solution of mounting it from both sides is to use ty-raps to see how it aligns, and then mount it. Then make the mounting using the drilled strips that car stereo installation people use. Painted black and bent in the right shape, it can encircle the swing arm and create a mount hole for the hugger. This will maintain the uniformity on both sides.

The hugger wont sit nicely without cutting a portion of the right side because the the Ninja swing-arm base (from left to right) is too wide for the FZ hugger. Once you cut the right side, it will sit nicely on the swing-arm and you can use Ty-raps. Attachment on the left side is a breeze since you can use the existing bolts on the Ninja swingarm assembly.

On the right side, I am planning to cut the plastic hugger arm (since the right area with the hole for the bolt is useless) and then use an extra wide black Ty-rap/cable tie which will wrap around the swing-arm base (which is in contact with the hugger) and pass through a slit (which I will make) in the hugger. I will use a lock cutter for the hugger since the plastic is way too hard for a regular hand held blade.

                        Hope this works...

ps: What are drilled strips? Can you show me a picture jd? Thanks!

                          • ^^ FZ hugger.

@bluevolt- tried searching for a pic. The strip is like 1cm or so wide, about 2m thick. has holes drilled into it or slots and holes alternating at equidistant lengths. Generally also used for mounting horns, side boxes ( the thicker kind are used for side boxes). Speaker mounts, grills etc. They can be bent easily..

I got it from the Yamaha spare's section at Orion motors, behind forum mall, Koramangala. Man, I must say that the spares for Yamaha are cheap - Rs.110!

Wonder how much the stock OEM 'bikini' type Ninja chain cover is for? Rs.2000?

I just cut the right side of the hugger, now let me see if I can get it to fit on the Ninja.
