Dude, I would never buy a 1200GS - I have seen it many times and that thing is Huge. I look like a 10 year kid on a horseback

Unless you are 6'5" and go to gym everyday, this bike is not for you. I dislike bikes on which I am unable to plant my feet firmly on the ground. So for that reason, I would love to own a BMW, but a 650 or 800GS/ST and not the 1200GS!

The tankpad looks hot bro. How much did it cost you? Is the product code TK008K?

I love this design as it is not like the regular tankpad shapes. Only grouse is that it does not have the carbon fiber look.

Did you heat the tankpad with a hair drier or something before installation? That way it will stick better and for longer.

Just to give you an idea, I looked up the Specs - seat height for the 1200 GS is 910 mm against 780 of the Ninja! And kerb weight is at 256 against 172 for the Ninja. Tall and heavy!

I have seen those numbers.. and also checked for seat lowering accessories provided for these bikes.

But believe me this ain't coming anytime soon. By that time.. who knows what.

Man I forgot the product code. They have carbon fibre tankpads as well. You can even get a Monster Energy Carbon fibre pad. Cost came around Rs 1900 including shipping. I just peeled the sticker and placed it on the tank. You only use a hair dryer to remove a tank pad or anyother sticker for that matter.

You remember my magic degreasing lotion? Cleaning the tank surface with that works great before sticking adhesive strips like the tank pad!

I just bought the same tankpad from DSG 2 days back. Cost me 2250/- Looks really great but not yet installed on the bike. Comes in a lovely packaging.

The instructions on the back however say that it must be heated to above room temperature before applying.... and it takes around 24hrs to bond completely. It says the tankpad needs to be heated. Googled for some info and some say the tank needs to be heated.

I definitely remember bro. Asked my parents to get a couple of those Krud Kutter 3-in-1 automotive degreaser's for me.

Will need to bother you when you return. Need your help in fixing the tankpad with a wee bit of the degreaser too before the installation. Hope you dont mind.

                          • Ownership Experiences

                            Hi All,

Couple of posts back , i had posted about the blackishness which is coming on the plates of my disc brakes.
I had a word with Prasanna on this and he told that this is normal and will happen, no need to worry.

I want to have the comments from champs, whether this is true or not, it is not though that i am doubting the credibility of Service engineer, but just need to cross check, as the blackishness appears on the plate, means the disc is touching the plate without my applying the break or not, which intern reduces the life of the brake and also slows the bike (a bit-due to friction) during traveling.

                            Please advice...
                            RIP Marco

I would advise you to clean the tank and stick the pad. Simple as that dude. It does take 24 hours to settle in, so leave it untouched for a day. Worked fine for me. If you have doubts, park your bike in open space during day time and stick the pad. It really gets heated up quick. Mine came in four pieces, so spent nearly a hour to align them.

See in all the disc brakes, when braking force is applied, small amounts of material are gradually ground off the brake pad. This is the blackish residue that you are concerned about. This is normal and will happen, nothing to worry about.
