I park my bike in the open with the cover on during the day, to protect it from the harsh Chennai sun and over-friendly birds - taking care as advised by some of the senior members not to do so when the bike is hot - or wet.
However, the last few evenings, when I've removed the covers to take the bike out, I've noticed a mild haze on the tank near the petrol cap. This haze appears to be petrol-based (like when petrol spills on paint).
I was told by the PBK guys that the Ninja's tank cap is designed to vent pressure from the tank (hence the whistling sound that we sometimes hear from the tank). I suspect the haze is due to petrol vapour venting from the cap that in turn condenses on the tank since the cover is non-breathable plasticized fabric. Has anyone else faced this problem?
I'm not sure if I should be concerned - am I facing this problem due to a defective seal on the fuel tank cap that allows more vapour to escape? Or is it just the dual effect of the scorching sun and the plastic ?
In either case I urge you guys to be aware of this and check your bikes as this petrol haze can damage your paint work - in the meanwhile I plan to look for a breathable dust cover for the daytime........
