    Buddy mine is classic 500,

The issue I faced is not specifically associated with classic 500.

I have got 3 clutch wire breaks in last 6 months of ownership. Not any other issues faced till now though.

Did you consider TB 500? If yes then could you pls list down reasons for choosing DS500?

Yeah i did considered TB500 , but decided in favour of DS for following reasons
            1. I prefer handle bar styling of DS
            2. DS color is unique
            3. No offence, but TB seems to me like Harley Wannabe bike.
            4. And most of all, i have soft spot for war era styling

So , no technical reasons but its more of a personal choice.

Noticed you mentioned 3 clutch wire breaks in 6 months. By any chance did you happen to look to find where exactly the wire broke? at the stub near lever or somewhere in between or the engine end of it?

Most clutch wire breaks do happen at the stub near lever.

A little dab of fresh white grease every few days, at the slot (and a clean up of old grease and dirt) where the stub is, will reduce wear and tear at this end and prevent clutch cable breaks.

At the outset, i must admit the fact that RE is cult motor Bike brand which is by far ahead of any other bike brand. i.e. Pulsar, Apache etc...

I am planning to be part of this cult community of RE.

This will be my first RE..

But, when it comes to put my figure down & choose the best bike for me...i am confused & skeptical (due to lack of experience & knowledge ) between RE350 & RE SD 500.

Now, like a layman i have been doing preliminary research to find appropriate solution to my confusion but nothing has worked out so far.

I have come across few common facts about both the variants which are commonly available on every thread.

for RE 350 - best for city rides, best for first time RE buyers,
after some time intensity of thump gets depleted.
Carburetor Engine creates some problem after some time.

Whereas RE 500 - best for long tours, EFI engine takes care of fuel efficiency & vibrations , Power & Thump in this bike are beyond comparison.

Now, I am a common 9-5 PM working guys who aspires to ride best in class Motor bike to enjoy my daily office commute as well as occasional weekend trips to Lonavala ,Lavasa & Mulshi..

I am unable to decide whether I should go for RE 350 or RE 500..

Would highly appreciate to receive some critical feedback from original RE owners to help me clear this apprehension.
                Hi Apoorv,

Your requirement is largely Commute and occasionally Rides.

                Go for 500cc if:-
                1. budget is not a constraint.
                2. FE is not a constraint.
                3. You do not have many traffic jams and/or extreme slow moving traffic along your route of commute.

Go for 350cc if any of the above limitations worry you.

Other than that, like with any other Bike/car or any vehicle out there, as long as you keep you RE serviced and pay attention to it at all times, it will Not loose power over time. 'Thump gets depleted' does not make much sense as all the newer generation REs do not have a loud exhaust note in stock condition. If by the thump you mean the feeling of power in engine, then rest assured it wont reduce/dampen/deplete over time as long as you keep your bike happy and serviced.

350cc are more preferred by first timers, but same first timers, once acquainted by their 350cc RE, feel they should have and could have gone for 500, only because 'When its available, why not go for it!?'

In slow moving traffic you wont be able to get the best RE experience with a 500cc machine and wont be doing it justice.

If you are not a heavy set person or do not expect hefty built pillions you can prefer 350cc over 500cc if by the time of your purchase, you still dont feel confident about 500cc variants.

Other than that, my only advice would be, buy an RE only if you absolutely, 100% surely Do want to own an RE bike!

They may not just disappear after the first service. but gradually they will go down. when you do go to service centre, do take some time and acquaint with other DS or CL500 owners and see how their engines sound/feel and if its any different than yours, that will give you first hand experience of what to expect and what not to expect.

                Happy ownership!

Thanks Rugved for the concerns and advices.

Since last clutch cable change I haven't faced the same issue again and my SB500 has completed a year.

My clutch wire broke from both the ends, stub near lever and engine end.

But since last change, seems like things are stable now. Broken wires must have smoothened the sharp edges at the lever side stub.

I have been using ds500 for more than 3yrs. And it is still going strong with out any issue.
I have done only normal service and clutch cable replaced at 20k as a preventive measure.

I need some inputs from you guys for some modification, not interms of performance, just for the purpose of touring.

Is there any problem in changing wheels to alloy?? I will be touring with my wife and will have full luggage in 45lit saddle bag. In the event of running over on a pothhole will make any impact on alloy?

                    • Best and comfortable seats for a royal Enfield Classic 500

                      Hello Everyone,

                      Greetings!!!

This is Amit here from Pune, have a Royal Enfield Classic 500 2014 model. Have been looking for some good suggestions over best and comfortable seats for this particular bike.

I generally use the vehicle for about 60 Kms per day. So the stock seats provided by the company doesn't feel very much comfortable.

There are buck seats and the long ones available as well, but I am really not sure which one to opt for out of the ones that are available. Some local mechanics are suggesting to buy buckets ones particularly from khajanchi.

I was expecting to seek some real good suggestions of the ones who have already used them.

Not sure if we already have had a thread earlier on this topic, if we do I would be happy to go back to it.

                      Thank you very much!
                      Have a good one.

                        • DS 500 ownership review

1500 KMS review on My Bull RE classic DS 500
Hi Guys!!!... This is sanjay from chennai. I used to read many users’ reviews on bikes. Today I am planning to share mine.

                          About Me
My love on two wheelers started from my school days. During my higher studies, we shifted to our new house. Until that my only source of travel is bicycle. My father is the only man in this universe who didn’t love two wheelers. Actually, he didn’t know how to drive. So, My hype on two wheel was huge. I used to drive my cousin’s Honda Activa. I learned driving from that only. After finished my schooling finally my family members decided to buy bike. As a teenage My mind was concerned on Fast so, I am asked for pulsar 220(fastest indian at that time). But my family rejected due to higher initial down payment of 30,000 INR, As a middle class family member that was really huge amount for my father because of our new house debt’s. Later my sister suggested me to go with apache rtr 160. At that time TVS showroom near my house provided RTR 160 for low down payment of 12K. But My f***king mind stayed on Pulsar 220. So I denied to apache. So, she used the chance, she convinced my father to buy Pep+. Finally she made it. I came to see RTR the real beast at the delivery of Pep . I was really bad for me(Vada Pochae:- Famous tamil dialogue). It looked really good on yellow color. But I should’ve used opportunity. Later some days my sister got married. After that her scooty pep was mine. I am tall of 6ft. and weights 100kg. So that looked like a toy for me. My friends used to troll me. My college days passed with a dream on two wheels. After finished my college, I am came out with 26 Arrears. So it took additional one year to complete my degree. After that I got a job. My family is not depended on my salary so its was easy for me to have some small savings. After a year, I had a money for initial amount but once again My f***king mind played. I love gaming so this time I spent my money on PS4.

My sister’s scooty pep+ started showing symptoms of “I am too old for you”. So I am happened to buy a new two wheel. This time my family members helped with initial payment.

Menu: Pulsar 220, 200 ns, 200 SS, CBR 250, FZ 250, Karizma, Duke and finally dominar 400.
Pulsar 220: It got it’s same power, raw power. But it’s too old
200ns: I don’t liked its new color. I am that bumblebee fan.
200SS: I liked it but I am concerned to my family. Because of rear seat it ill be difficult for my mother to sit.
                          Duke: Same here family issue.
CBR 250: Need some update. Its to old.
FZ 250: Low power than dominar.
Karizma: It lacks that old charisma on Karizma R.
Dominar 400: I really loved its power. A twist will make us to lead in traffic signal. I am decided, that this will be the one I am looking for.
So I got quotation for dominar 400. So I went for test drive. I asked my uncle to take pillion seat. Pickup up of the bike is tremendous. Obvious, for a guy whose switching from 90cc to 400. But my uncle felt uncomfort in pillion. My concern towards family made to drop the dominar from the list. So, My uncle suggested me to go with RE. I love bullet, But my uncle is also a classic 350 owner. So I thought to get speedy bikes. Because, we can switch bikes. But everything changed. So, we went to RE Showroom in adyar. Customer service of them was really nice. So, I done test drive of thunderbird 350, Standard 350, Himalayan 350 and Electra.
Himalayan: Nice bike, But family issue. Rear seat is too high.
Standard350 and Electra: I don’t know why? But I don’t like original bullets look.
Thunderbird 350: Nice bike for touring, It was like riding a two wheeler on sofa coach. That much comfort. Mind fixed on this.
So went for booking. On that day I saw a DS 500. So, I asked for test drive. Showroom guys hesitated to give because it’s night but my uncle convinced them. So I got a chance to test drive.
My f***king mind once again played after started DS 500. *tha semaa(tamil word to show joy!!!), I really liked its initial pick up. So I booked it on that day. My uncle warned me about its amount around 2 lakhs, But my mind stayed on DS. Within a week RE launched two new variant. Stealth black and gun metal with disc. Due to waiting period of more than a 3 months went with DS 500. Friends advised to wait for new edition but eagerness made me to stay with DS 500. They had DS 500 in handy. It took a month for finance process after that, I got, my DS 500 Finally.

Serious warning!!! Never test drive 500. If your planning for 350. It will really change your mind!!!

                          MY Bull

                          Review On Bike:
Bike’s initial pickup was really nice. It will give that devil smile on face(* tha naan thaan; another tamil phrase) but limited to 60 because run-in period. It still got that crowd head turning fact. Within a week bike covered 500. So first service done with a only one issue of rear break. Believe me rear break shoe got damaged for 200kms itself. So, I am used to apply front brake mostly. I am really afraid on mileage, because many users complained that they are getting 17Kmph, but got a decent amount of 27-30 kmpl(average speed of 60-90). In worst I received 20 kmpl. I am not a dragger type. We can’t expect that on RE engines.
It got two sensors, One is side stand sensor and another one is roll over sensor. BS-IV edition got oxygen sensor. High speed achieved till was 135 kmph.
                          Final Verdict:
Pro’s: Great pick up, Retro look, Matte paint(won’t show minor scratches), Families’ happiness
Con’s: I felt difficulties in reducing gear some times. But I get used to it. Bike gets heat for short rides to, Rusting on screws, Low ground clearance.
Apart from rear brake. Everything is really great. Value for money. Hope for possibilities on changing swing arm of stealth black one.

Completed 2k km still no issues apart from folks alignment issue. Which was fixed by them...
