The old one got rusted in the header part, send a mail to TVS on Saturday, and receive a call form local TVS Area manager, he asks me to come and they will replace it. Just came to my office with a brand new pipe, and wow, this pipe sound sexy, like the Fi & 180. My previous pipe was bit quite.

    TOTAL RAW RTR BLISS..

I have a partner....hahaha same as SP *evil grin*

To be frank i dont like the sound of most of the RTR's when compared with mine. Mine has the old head with a new silencer without the resonator!

    • Abnormal sound of piston...

Guys, just recently I noticed that my RTR Fi is smoking BLACK. The smoke quantity was low so I poured one bottle of Bardahl cleaner in tankful petrol yesterday, just in case there would be any slag. But today while coming to office, I noticed piston sound to be different at low rpms (upto4K), I feel like some gap is developed. Are the piston rings damaged or something else...

It's knocking in my head now.

Check for usual symptoms of bore/piston wear! oil levels, avg, pick up and all. If its less then get it checked, if its F$^ked, then F%^K the SVC folks for a new kit under warrenty!

Ya, oil level was down (to last cross of Dip-stick), and thus I also topped-up oil. Pick-up was almost OK till day before yesterday, and noticed drop in pick-up while returning home yesterday. Today, as a precautionary measure, I didn't take bike above 4.5K rpm.

          Surely, thanks for enlighting mate.

Also check the plug colour, if found stick black carbon, sure you need to open head and piston.

how much kms u covered if above or near 20,000kms means replace the valve oilseal, piston rings& decarbonise the head.and check the backloss of the connecting rod

Black smoke is an indicator of fried piston rings.....
Get them changed as soon as possible in order to avoid re-boring or changing block piston...
If your bike is under warranty, then its better get it done for free...

Bike has done 29,000 Kms roughly. Decarbonization was done @ 27K Kms.
Hmm... parts replacement was not done.

Almost at the verge of completion of Warranty Period.
Y'day evening talked to the Service Station owner. But Wednesday was their weekly off, so I have to wait one more day.

Any precautions while riding? I have to ride 33 Kms one side towards office, means 66 Kms daily. Although I'm not straining the engine above 4K rpm and giving short break to bike in between the ride.

Check for the engine oil level everyday morning n try to avoid high speeds. Top-up the engine oil whenever you feel it to be below the optimum level.

And one more thing, stick to one particular type of oil (mineral or synthetic) after replacing the piston rings. When an engine runs on mineral oil for a long time the clearances that are set in the mating parts are higher than that in case of Synthetic oil. So when Synthetic oil is used, it ends up burning in the combustion chamber along with the fuel resulting in smoke n damaged engine internals dude to improper lubrication.

Its not enough to know how to twist the throttle; you must have judgement to know when and where to do it.

Thanks for the humble advices guys.

There was a loose nut in magneto which might have come off thus making electric start cumbersome. I previously doubted that One-Way clutch is broken.

And yes, piston rings were about to fry.

And now the piston rings are changed, I have to go through sluggish 'run-in' once again. Thankfully, cylinder didn't get scratches... One more thing, they have not changed the engine oil.

At the moment, the engine oil is a mixture of TVS Tru-4 and Castrol's 20W40 grade (umm... forgot the name) which was the result of frequent top-ups. But gear shifting I felt harder than normal. Haven't tried any synthetic oil and only last Service is left (Warranty Period). Thinking of Petronas 5000 (10W40). Should it be good??
