  • Newbie questions

Guys, have some questions about my new Apache 160:

    1. I see traces of oil on the right of the oil filler cap [more towards the crash guard than the oil filler cap]. Is this overflow from the filter?
    2. There are 2 sounds that I hear, distinct from the engine firing: one is a metallic chattering noise [not very loud], which is pronounced above 3k rpm, and the other is a humming noise which I've observed only since the last couple of days. I can't hear this at low speeds, i.e. in 1st and 2nd gears, but it becomes audible after 25 kmph or so.

Should I take the bike to the service centre, or can these wait till the 1st service which is due in 10 days. I might sound paranoid, but can't bear having anything go wrong with a new vehicle!

    Cheers,
    Vikram

One more question about my Apache 160 for the veterans:

My bike's idling RPM stays at the 1000 mark after a cold start, but when I ride it for a while, say after 15-20 kms, then it starts hovering around the 1400 RPM mark. Is this normal or should I adjust it?

        Cheers,
        Vikram

I got Leh'd on my 38k kms old Apache RTR 160.. Awesome performance by the bike.. I was able to climb all the high altitude passes without any modifications to the carb or the AFR screw..
Anyone else looking to get leh'd on the Apache, go for it.. The bike wont disappoint you..

          Cheers,

I think it's pretty normal. Even mine stays around 1.3k but when I leave it idling for a minute it'll be back to 1000. I think it's a normal thing.

              Hello guys.
I am having Apache RTR of 2012 June model. It has run about 8500 kms till date.
The problem is, i shift gear from 1st to second, and in second gear it goes good
till it reaches at 4000 rpm but after this the bike vibrates a lot and the speed is decreased,
again the speed increases suddenly after the vibrations are done.
Please help me out to solve this problem guys.
Oil service is done at 7000 kms with Motul 15w50 5100 wngine oil.

Is that the recommended engine oil for your bike?

This problem still persists and the service centre hasn't been able to resolve it even after changing the O ring. I've even contacted the TVS engineer who is deputed to oversee the service centres in Pune, to no avail.

Does anyone have email ids of any one in TVS that I can escalate this issue to?

                        Thanks in advance.

Thank you very much susheelkumar! I hope those people are still employed at TVS and those email ids are valid.

My bike is at the svc centre right now, and this time they are going to change the filter cap as well as the O ring. If even that doesn't work, then I guess I'll have to use those email ids and hope for the best.

                            Thanks again.

                            • Rear tyre For 2012 Apache RTR 160

Hi Everyone.. I am Shrikanth from Bangalore

I have a 2012 model Apache RTR 160 ( Disk Brakes front & rear ). It Has clocked 9000km now and is almost 1 year old . I had read the reviews that the stock TVS tyres on this bike are terrible and have lots of complaints . I had not come across any such problems for a while .. that was until my bike experienced its first rainy season .. It sends chills down my spine everytime i break .. The rear wheel slips even on slightly damp roads and also if there is a little loose sand or slush, This also causes the rear wheel to lock.
So I have decided i will change the Stock tvs tyres for something good before it kills me . I have gone through many threads and blogs for the right tyre but for no good .. each one leaves me fully confused pointing at a new direction ..

I was checking out the Pirelli sport demon and MRF Zapper C (Both tubeless). but read that Perilli wears out quick and is loses performance after around 3K Kms of use.
So it would really help me if you can suggest a good tyre any brand . I dont have any restrictions on cost and fuel economy compromise . Also can i fit a little wider tyre to my bike without altering the stock rims and chassy.

Oh btw Stock Tyre Size is 110/80 -17 Rear ( Tubeless)
