1. check your air filter and carb...after i set the tappet clearance 0.10m for IN & EX + Carb's air screw 3.7/8 turns out, my bike doesn't make this sound..Originally Posted by iChaitanya
You should be using mineral oil and not synthetic oil for the first 5k km. No idea about K&N stuff. Not gonna install it anytime soon!

Hello guys,
My 4 month old RTR160 (1450 km, 2 free services done, using Shell AX5 engine oil) is troubling me:
1) Engine misfiring: I had this issue right from day 1 but it was fixed during 1st servicing. The issue resurfaced after 2nd servicing and it still persists. I told the SVC guys to fix it yet again. They kept my bike for a day and returned it to me saying they've cleaned the spark plug.
Bike makes "phat-phat-phat" sound at high RPM (especially when rolling down a slope). SVC guys have given up and have advised me to use better quality petrol and additives. I'm using normal HP petrol. Should I switch to "Speed" petrol. Will doing so fix this issue of engine misfiring?
2) Front disc brake makes loud screeching noise when I apply the brake. This issue persists since 2nd servicing. It was non-existent until then. What should be done to fix this? SVC guys didn't do anything.
3) Idling RPM varies according to surrounding temperature and engine temperature. After riding my bike continuously for 15 mins, idling RPM shoots up to almost 2.5k RPM. How to fix this? SVC guys have given up. They're unable to fix it. Do all RTRs have this issue?
4) There are some noticeable scratches on my bike including a couple of them on the headlight. How to remove such scratches?
RTR owners and others please help me out...
2. clean the pads, dirt must went in...or maybe you want to try some honda's pad?
3. that's the plug! really hate the stock bosch plug, doesn't happen with NGK / DENSO

Guys 1120KMs on ODO>...<....
But done 126kmph . ..
I am too happy now. After that I could see smoke coming out from silencer....
Actually there was even throttle left in the bike after reaching that speed. It could do 130 easily....

1. Engine misfiring issue has been resolved by the SVC. Some tappet noise is audible. Will have to fix it. Bike's performance is fine. Current mileage is 40 kmpl with heavy ripping. Is this mileage OK?Originally posted by martin_sky77 View Post1. check your air filter and carb...after i set the tappet clearance 0.10m for IN & EX + Carb's air screw 3.7/8 turns out, my bike doesn't make this sound..

2. Front disc screeching noise still persists. SVC has changed both the front disc pads in warranty, but still the irritating noise persists.
3. Varying idling RPM issue was also kinda resolved by the SVC. Now my RTR160's idling RPM is 1.1k when cold and 1.5k-1.6k when hot. Are these values OK? I've already bought the NGK Iridium spark plug from DSG. Will install it tomorrow. Will report back if I notice any changes in the engine/firing behavior.Apache RTR 160 RD

My bike has done 36k shall I get the decarb done also?Originally posted by kantu View PostBetter at SVC since it requires opening of head, you can get tappets adjusted also during this.
and is the tappet adjustment really necessary?

1. 40kmpl with heavy ripping is OK. I usually get 38(shifting above 6k RPM)
2. I had my rear brake pads replaced in my last service and they made a screeching noise as well until they started to wear in. Maybe this is the case?
3. The idling RPM is exactly similar to mine. So I assume they are OK.Live Free, Ride Hard

My old pads used to make noise, so I complained. They changed the pads but still I hear this irritating loud screeching noise when I apply the front disc brake.Originally posted by PsychoRider View Post2. What could be the reason? How do I fix this issue?
There is no loss in braking power. Braking power is awesome, but the noise is really annoying/irritating.Apache RTR 160 RD

1. u can ignore those tappets noise...40 kmpl is fine, in old days i've got 40-42 kmpl with heavy ripping & shifting around 8-9k rpms...Originally posted by iChaitanya View Post1. 2. i suggest & recommend you to change you pads to ninja 250's brake pads..they have better material quality and blablabla, but more expensive..the stock RTR's pads are bad, it'll soon wear your disc (right now i'm using yamaha's single piston caliper, since one of the stock piston often stuck)....the sooner u change it with ninja's pads, the better..
3. ehmm...can't say much for this..i've set my idle RPM for 1k rpms, and went to 1.1-1.2k rpms when hot....maybe it's because our country have a different temp and humidity
what's the NGK iridium plug's code u've bought? CR7EIX? CR8EIX? CR9EIX? or maybe SIMR8A9 (CBR 250R laser iridium plug)?

For how many kms did you use your old pads for?Originally posted by iChaitanya View PostMy old pads used to make noise, so I complained. They changed the pads but still I hear this irritating loud screeching noise when I apply the front disc brake.

I suggest you allow the new pads to wear in since you described no problem with the braking.
If the noise you say is a high pitched one then it is definitely because of new unworn pads (I'm assuming everything is fine with your brake fluid).Live Free, Ride Hard

Since everyone is talking about Noise in brakes, my RTR has got the same problem, terribly irritating noise in both front and rear discs, plus theres noise even when i dont apply the brakes(just drag the bike in a silent place to check). my bike 1002kms old. i think brake pads must have settled by now.
i have asked SVC twice, but it again re-occurs
help please, should i shout at the SVC guys & try one last time?
Except for bicycles, everything else: i learned to ride it in "Grand Theft Auto"!

I think you ride mostly in conjugated areas, not in traffic.... when you ride in empty space at low speed, and then if you apply brake then you can hear this noise which is very normal though i don't get it.... I think may be water has entered there....Originally posted by iChaitanya View PostMy old pads used to make noise, so I complained. I think it is due to brake binding. Remember the days when we used to ride bicycles if we tightened the brakes too much the brakes would keep touching the rim of the cycle? Similar problem here I think.Originally posted by vaibhav_ View PostSince everyone is talking about Noise in brakes, my RTR has got the same problem, terribly irritating noise in both front and rear discs, plus theres noise even when i dont apply the brakes(just drag the bike in a silent place to check). my bike 1002kms old. i think brake pads must have settled by now.

Regarding shouting at SVC I highly recommend it, those people won't work properly unless shouted upon.
Also has anyone tried the Mobil Extra 4T 10w40 semi-synthetic for their RTR?Live Free, Ride Hard
