Hi Everyone.. I am Shrikanth from Bangalore

I have a 2012 model Apache RTR 160 ( Disk Brakes front & rear ). It Has clocked 9000km now and is almost 1 year old . I had read the reviews that the stock TVS tyres on this bike are terrible and have lots of complaints . I had not come across any such problems for a while .. that was until my bike experienced its first rainy season .. It sends chills down my spine everytime i break .. The rear wheel slips even on slightly damp roads and also if there is a little loose sand or slush, This also causes the rear wheel to lock.
So I have decided i will change the Stock tvs tyres for something good before it kills me . I have gone through many threads and blogs for the right tyre but for no good .. each one leaves me fully confused pointing at a new direction ..

I was checking out the Pirelli sport demon and MRF Zapper C (Both tubeless). but read that Perilli wears out quick and is loses performance after around 3K Kms of use.
So it would really help me if you can suggest a good tyre any brand . I dont have any restrictions on cost and fuel economy compromise . Also can i fit a little wider tyre to my bike without altering the stock rims and chassy.

Oh btw Stock Tyre Size is 110/80 -17 Rear ( Tubeless)
I guess MRF FY/MRF FY1 or Michellin Pilot Sport are the best options for the front. . . Now coming to the rear if you are going normal tires then, Zapper Vyde/Q/S, Revz are good. . . Other than that if you are looking for dual purpose tires then Ceat Vertigo sport (the best rated by many), MRF Meteor-M, Michellin Sirac Street (another rated as good), etc., will serve your purpose. . . About the tire size, I think there's no problem installing slightly bigger tire compared to the stock, I guess you can try out 120/70-17, that'd be fine, . . About Pirelli's I have seen many of my friends using it and they are really happy with it, but don't know about it's durability cos haven't enquired about that. . . You can consider any from the above options which are good and are available easily. . . But if you want the best ones, then you need to import them. . .

    Cheers!!!

Thank you for your suggestion Rakesh Rok
I will check out the tyres you mentioned . But some of the tyres you mentioned here do not come in the size that suites my bike. like i could not find 110/80-17 in MRF Zapper Q series and also in Vyde series .. its only available in Zapper c series.

Hi Again .. i did some research on tyres .. these are the ones i found which seem to be good .. all from their respective websites.

        1. MRF Zapper Vyde 120/80-17
        2. MRF Zapper C 110/80-17 ( perfect fit)
        3. Mechelin Sirac Street ( no tyre sizes available , only 18" wheel sizes in website)
        4. Pirelli MT 75 110/80-17 m/c 57p
        5. Pirelli sport demon 110/80-17 also 120/80-17
        6. ceat vertigo sport (no idea of what sizes they have)

Would like to summerize my need once again .. I need a tyre which works good on both dry and wet conditions. it needs to be tubless . I checked if i can use a little bigger tyres on my bike but i think there is only about 8 mm space between my rear tyre and chain case right now.. so i dont think 120/80 are gonna work
        Any suggestions would help ..
        Thank you

          Hi Shrikanth,

As per your need, you only need tyres that grip well in Wet and Dry. IMHO, you should not be upgrading the size of the tyre. Mind you, upgrading the tyre will change the ride-ability, handling and milage of the bike (not to mention other unforeseen effects). My suggestion would be to go with OEM spec size. That would be either MRF zapper or Pireli MT/Sport Demon.

          Regards,
          Yogesh.

Thank you Yogesh for your suggestion ..I Am also considering getting the OEM Spec tyres instead of wider ones .. tyres you suggested are good but i have come across some differed opinions about zappers. also do you know of any place where i could get a good deal on pirelli MTs or Demons ?

              Thanks & Regards,

                Hi Shrikanth,

If you are somewhere in south Bangalore than JC Road would be the best bet. I have personally bought tyres from a shop called Madhu's enterprise in Langford Road but not sure if they have Pirelli's and the sizes required for the RTR.
                Regards,
                Yogesh.

Hi Yogesh .. do you have any idea regarding how the Michelin Sirac street tyres are ? it sure looks more promising than the Pirelli's

Hi Shrikanth, the Sirac Street has had mixed feedback by people who have tried it and in general there is a feeling that Michelin quality has gone down with newer Sirac Street. If you do try it then let me know of the results

The face lifted 160 now comes with 180 type colour. Checked in local news paper today morning. Can any one can confirm that?

EDIT: Face lifted 160 now comes in white colour & black colour.Green colour been discontinued.

180 & abs model colours remains same.

Old designed bikes are back in 2013 year production & co-exist with the face lifted one.
