  • One small question to all Carbureted RTR owners, did you check the spark plug colour regularly? What colour u found say after running 200 km max. I always found black, the ring are black two electrodes are black with dry shot of carbon, and even the ceramic part is also black in one side. Nowadays I am getting a mileage of 43 kmpl, bike is also smooth and the idle screw is 2 & half open from full close position.

I used to refill my bike when it comes to reserve, at that time I usually fill 200 bucks of fuel witch mean 4.14 liter of normal fuel. It runs perfect 180 km and came to reserve. This black deposition in spark plug hamper the performance of the bike, after cleaning the plug it acts good again, but hardly for another 200 km, again I have to clean the plug.

IS THAT A PROBLEM? Or is it the nature of RTR?

If possible will u put any pic of your plug after riding it for say 200 or more km.

the colour you mentioned indicates a rich mixture...
the colour of the spark plug should be light golden brown or "roasted" brown.
and plug needs checking at every 500kms, 200 is frequently you're doing.

clean it with sandpaper and safety pin and relace it back and make the mixture lean by half of half turn.

Query: does the Apache even have a fuel filter? If yes, where is it? The only fuel filters I have seen are those fitted externally, below the fuel cock. I take it that fuel filter and oil (engine oil) filter are different entities.

He try to mean the Fi only, which comes with a special fuel filter below the tank.

Both the bottles have the same shape but it's the Motul which seems to be genuine because of the cap seal (that is in case if the Yamalube container isn't opened!!)

                    • Ok. There is a particular oil from Yamalube which is made by Motul itseems. Sarvajit was telling me. So it might be that the contents are same but manufactured by Motul for Yamaha and sold with Yamalube stickers.

                            • Does anyone know the price of Crank and piston block for the RTR 160?

My bike makes a strange knocking sound, especially when there is sudden load on the bike.
Recently gave the bike for decarb, and according to the SVC guys, the problem is the piston is also moving sideways , causing the sound.
They suggest replacing the crank and the piston.
