Hi everyone, wish you a very Happy New Year.
Guys, I am trying to lubricate the swing arm of my RTR, which completed 27000km. Till now, I have never did it and nether the service folks tried it. I was trying to open the swing arm by first detaching the three Allen screws near the rider foot peg, so if I can remove the sub frames, I will be able to open the main swing arm axle nut or vis versa. But some how I was unable to open those three Allen screws, they are rock solid and god know if they are real screw or show piece. My question is how to open the swing arm and lubricate the buses inside.
Secondly I was searching for rear tyre and found Zapper Q coasted me Rs.1900.00 for 100/90-18. But my RTR rear is 100/80-18, do you feel that 10 mm will make any problem, like scarping with the chain cover; BTW I already have that small chain cover of newer RTR. Will my FE drop?
Ride safe.

is your rtr having full chain cover ? on the half chain cover even 110 section tire is fine . FE wont drop in your case . you can also take a look at michelin pilot sporty 100/90-18 , its around same cost i think and is also tubeless .Originally posted by kauria View PostSecondly I was searching for rear tyre and found Zapper Q coasted me Rs.1900.00 for 100/90-18. Would be much of a problem unless ur are hell bent in pickup. With 100/90 pick up would a bit lesser than 100/80. But you get a taller gearing and infact a bit more FE. I used to run on 110/80 Vee rubber. it used to scrap under side of the mudgaurd just below the seat. That was more related to the messed up ahin/rear wheel aligment. Goahead with the change, you would'nt have any problem!Originally posted by kauria View PostHi everyone, wish you a very Happy New Year.

There is nothing to lubricate in it. Those screws are real and need to be loosen by help of a pipe roughly 1.5' long. Get 17mm box spanner bit(if you dont have) for your T-Handle. It will be help full.Originally posted by kauria View PostHi everyone, wish you a very Happy New Year.

Once you remove the pivot Bolt, just pull out the swing arm. Then get the rubber bushes changed from machinist (using hydraulic press is prefered) and put back every thing. You can check whether bushes really need change by taking foot print of chassis. Cos generally, the bushes last for 70-75k(5-6 years) or so. However, they may last less if the roads are bumpy.
Symptoms of the swing arm bushes requiring change:
1. Swing arm shifted to one side- will be clear by foot print
2. Bike feeling unstable (wobbles) over corners.
3. To confirm before dis- assembly, Disconnect the suspensions and brake link in case of drum brake and try displacing the wheel side to side. If it is felt, the bushes need replacement. There's lot to it other than saddle....

No doubt the swing arm is modified. Coming to rear suspensions only, the change is in spring rate. Switching to RTR180's rear suspension would be good mod if some one needs stiffer ride.Originally posted by psr View PostLast edited by nox2505; 01-05-2011, 10:19 AM.There's lot to it other than saddle....

The RTR 160s came with fully closed chain guards and if the 180 swing arm is replaced in a 160 this will not fit properly. Secondly the chain length will be more, which means stock 160 with 180's swing arm change will need longer chainOriginally posted by nox2505 View PostAlbeit it is bolt on interchange. They say so because it deviates from stock handling and specs.
....,not forgetting the fact the rear brake lever shaft will also need to be extended.
So it is not a bolt on straight fit.....some mods need to be done.

Here, i think snehil asked about suspension change only.Originally posted by psr View PostThe RTR 160s came with fully closed chain guards and if the 180 swing arm is replaced in a 160 this will not fit properly. However, coming to swing arm, there is something namely RTR 160 refresh, which has open chain along with many upgrades over first edition RTR160. The RTR180 has same chain cover that of RTR160 only with one cutout. Suspension spring rate is increased to compansate longer swing arm. The swing arm is stretched after the suspension mounting brackets, resulting in higher distance between suspension mounting and wheel axle. There's lot to it other than saddle....

hyperedge has same wheelbase as previous RTR 160's at 1300 mm . the 180 only has a longer wheelbase .Originally posted by kantu View Post^^ You missed out Hyper edge
Hyper Edge Wheel base is more compared to Refresh if i am right , so i think it shouldnt be a prob in hyper edge
nox do you think rtr 180's swinarm can be fit on 160's if i also change sprockets and chain . suspension spring will remain same . i just feel rtr 160 will feel more stable with a longer wheelbase and im also thinking of getting joel's big bore kit .Last edited by Puneet1; 01-05-2011, 04:15 PM.
