regarding light ,I have to inquire more reg the same.

adjustable cam spindle are made by some mechanic in Iringalakuda(Trichur) and distributed.but ,now he is not in business it seems.

I knew that new machines comes with adj. cam spindles default.
for older machines ,using a new set of cam gears and adjustable spindle may not fit properly reason being the timing chain cover got some difference in specification .may be we need to grind some length off .
This is ,as per another bulleteer here .and mech is saying ,there is no need for spending 1000's for a brand new cam+spindle set.there are other ways without destructing the original setup - like oversize spindle or adding bushes to stop the play.
    - and some freaky mechs will do some other trick(not recommended) - they cut the spindle hole bigger to add another arrangement.
    Hey Prakash!

Yours is not the original Redditch design, right, so don't worry about the design change.

As for oversize spindles, don't go in for that, they result in stress on the cam gears, as they tend to become heavier than what's required. As about adding bushes, it's almost like you are making a normal spindle work like an adjustable one. The only difference is that the adjustable ones come with a bolt that can be used to adjust the positioning of the cam gears & here you are using the bushes.

    Take care.

    Happy thumping,

          hey brothers,
sory for the OT but i did not want to post this in Which Bike should I buy...felt it's more relevant here.
I stay in Pune and im in a Medical college which is 26 km from home. I travel up and down everyday apart from other rides totalling around 15 km more.
Total riding everyday is around 50-60 km. Im 6 feet tall and have a Passion Plus as of now, but im finding it really difficult to ride on this puny bike.
My backside hurts every evening. I was really thinking of getting a Bullet Electra or Machismo. Cash aint quite a problem but a few of my friends say that it's tough to ride a Bullet in Pune traffic and for such a long distance.
Please clarify as I really need a bigger vehicle. Suggestions for other bikes are welcome too...I need ur help.
          Thanks.

            Hi Richie,

I wish you had started a separate thread as it is a good topic/ question regarding tall people on Indian 2 wheelers.

Bullet is tall enough, but really maybe you should relook your riding posture.

Also 60 KM in traffic daily won't be comfortable or enjoyable on a Bullet.

Both Electra 4 S and the newer Machismo 500 are very good. The problems of Machismo 500's electric start seems almost resolved.

BEST THING for you is to take a day off and visit Showrooms of:
            • HH Karizma,
            • Bajaj Pulsar and
            • Royal Enfield

Take trial rides on each - give them whatever papers or even small amount of money as deposit to take trial rides - then judge for yourself how it feels in city traffic and highway. Check petrol before going far away from the showroom.

Then make a 3 column table with your experience and information from each dealer:
            • do cost-benefit ratio for each bike
            • do features-liabilities comparison for each bike
            • personal riding comfort rating for YOU (1 to 3)
            • Service Center quality and service for each (ask owners in Pune)

You have to do groundwork yourself to avoid getting stuck with a unusable vehicle. Don't depend too much on Forum experiences as everyone loves their own preferred Brand and you have a unique problem to be resolved by yourself.

            Best Wishes,
            UD

bullet engine may tend to get more hot in stop and go traffic.also ,usage of clutch means much more heat.

BUT - I manage to ride it fine in congested traffic of coimbatore or cochin.it comes with time.simply -using less clutch is a good idea.using neutral finder is what I meant.

@richie :buddy ,consider pulsar 200.it may be OK for you.

I had a trip with bull to coimbatore(again) non stop(literally!).though ,in return trip it rained bad in kerala .
Bull owners - How much for the alloy wheels for bull?exact specifications?I am seriously considering this.please share your experience with alloy wheels too.

My Tail Lamp (which is a thunderbird's taillamp actually ) 's cover was broken last time when returning from coimbatore.an idiot in his bolero hit slightly just to broke the plastic cover :@ . I searched for cover alone ,but it seems only a taillamp assembly is available.

So ,I am thinking of getting avenger's taillamp if available..

Our very own Harley Our Bureau

                      Kochi , July 22
IF Harley-Davidson, America's very own motorcycle that has spawned a cult following, is an exclusive set of wheels, the one owned by A.G. Jose of Kochi is, indeed, one of its kind.
No, Jose's motorcycle is not the latest Harley off the block. Take a closer look, and you will find a Royal Enfield Bullet beneath the blue skin.
A mechanic who has studied till Standard XI, Jose himself designed and developed the Harley look-alike by converting a Bullet, after being enamoured of a Harley-Davidson picture in a calendar. "I have never seen a Harley in my life, though I know that there is one in Kochi," he says.
Jose spent Rs 30,000 for a 2000-model Bullet and another Rs 70,000 to convert it. The Bullet has undergone a tremendous change at the hands of the mechanic, who specialises in repairing sports and rally bikes. The fuel tank, rear mudguard, seat base, chain cover, handlebar and silencer are all handmade.
He has sourced most of the other parts from other bikes, such as Bajaj Eliminator, Bajaj Pulsar, Hero Honda CBZ and TVS Fiero. The rear tyre is from an Opel Astra since he could not get a bike tyre wide enough to fit his bike. The Harley-Davidson insignias were sourced from belts sold at duty-paid shops.
While the engine of the Bullet has been left intact, Jose has changed the gear to the left side, unlike in a conventional Bullet, which has the gearshift on the right. He has also used a monocoque suspension at the rear and added disk brakes on both the wheels.
The bike, weighing about 160 kg, returns 20 km per litre, the mechanic claims.
Though it is bound to turn many heads on the street, Jose still can't paint Kochi red (or blue) on his "custom-made Harley" since it is yet to get the necessary approvals from transport authorities. "I will have to improve the front suspension and then I am sure my bike will clear all the tests," he says.
He is willing to sell it provided someone offers the "right price."
And Jose's next project? To alter a normal car into a Formula One machine.

All design looks good but I hate it when people put fake V Twin type covers on a non-Twin engine - what benefit it adds, looks poor/ pathetic and does not add anything but weight to the performance.

Then there is the double silencer "mod" which is not a mod but weird looking extra pipe on a regular Bullet/ "Chopper"

Have a look at this - had posted it in old forums - weird "modded" Bullet at Vashi - looks like a Circus motorccle for clowns (mobile phone images) :

Hey Sriram, have you checked the battery as cause of low horn output ? ..... maybe with a bigger horn your battery will drain even more faster.

Anyways, in Mumbai the Bullet mechanics suggest Skoda car horns which would drown your thump as well

i think it is either because the wiring is messed up somewhere in between or because they got loose which would need some welding work.
