Re: Bajaj Avenger - All versions
Hello brothers, just wanted to ask if anyone has changed/ modified or felt the need to change the rear brake foot rest/pedal.i find the pedal to be a little far from where my foot lies and i always need to twist my ankle a bit to reach out to the pedal and apply brakes.i own 2018 street 220.if someone has any ideas please do share.
How about the r.e brake pedals?

Re: Bajaj Avenger - All versions
You can try buying the old cruise models windshield and after market clamps and maybe..I did a make do setup using that only.vibrations can be felt at 75+ speeds tho and the clamps that I got are ugly and rusty.Originally posted by Kumarsduke390 View PostInquiring about that but i really don’t want vibration while touring at high speed .so hopefully I would be able to find some solution soon.

Re: Bajaj Avenger - All versions
I have one observation to make, regarding Auxiliary and main headlight. If the total wattage of all add on LED lights is within 60 watts, than there should not be a problem for battery charging etc. In most cases, LED lights will consume lesser power than the standard Halogen 60/55 watt bulbs. If it is confirmed that the upgraded LED lights are well within 60 watts, then the addition of a dual horn, will not also cause any problem to the battery and its charging. The horn is an intermittent load and also, the dual horn is not supposed to work with the existing horn, Therefore, only the difference in power consumption of the dual horn, needs be considered. Since it is an intermittent load, it will not make any difference. The battery is not charging all the while. The battery draws a current for a certain duration, on start up, because the self starter loaded it for a short while. As soon as the terminal voltage of the battery reaches around 14.8V, the charge controller will drastically reduce the flow of current into the battery and maintain only a very small (trickle charge) forward current into the battery. At this stage, all systems on the vehicle are running purely off the alternator/magneto of the bike and the power earlier used for charging the battery is surplus. And in the day time, since the lights are not used, there is even more surplus power available. Another point to note is that the horn gets used more frequently during the day than at night. Here again, the unused surplus power that is not being used for the lights, will be more than sufficient to support the use of the horn, even if it is very frequent. A bigger battery is never an answer because it just makes no sense. It is the alternator that needs to be upgraded, if necessary. But in this case, this too, is not required. Tony Rebeiro.
Originally posted by Golden Cat View PostAs a mechanical engineer, I will suggest everyone do not alter critical components of your vehicle from OEM spec.
All specs are designed in benefit of vehicle life, vehicle safety, environmental emissions and performance.
Changing to different specs such as air filter/spark plug/engine oil, tyre size, electrical component, suspensions etc can perform good for limited time period but surely will not last long.
You must know what you are doing.
For example,
1) Changing from stock horn to dual horn without relay. In this case, dual horns will perform for a week or two, but will end into burnt switch or burnt wires.
You can do it by installing relay and proper wiring and you will need bigger Ah battery to take its load when all headlights ,tail lights are ON. You will need to change field coil which will charge that battery faster if you want full-proof system. Stock coil also OK but charging will take more time.
2) Installing LED AUX lights for extra light. It will also work but will drain battery faster than its charging rate! Resulting in low battery when you stop your vehicle at night because battery is not charged fully because of low charging rate. In this case, you have to use less Wattage LED lights and should switch off them few minutes before stopping so that battery charges as normal load condition. Bigger Ah battery will help here but will take more time to fully charge it.
3) Installing more wattage halogen bulb in headlight. (using 60w bulb in place of 35w circuit or 100w bulb in place of 60w circuit). Result will be rapid battery drain if its DC circuit or load on stator coil of its AC circuit. Also more heat will damage plastic holder.
4) Bigger Tyre: Results in more load on engine so consumes more fuel, clutch plate wear faster, braking reduces because of added momentum force of tyre, turning radius increases.
5) Spark plugs: They are designed/selected carefully considering Piston head clearance, engine working temperature, voltage generated by coil etc. Can be replaced with other spark plugs with same specs but improved quality of material.
6) Engine oil: Avenger uses 20w50 grade mineral oil. There are other synthetic oils available but grade should be same. 10W50 or even 0W50 can work in engine but engine life will be reduced because as viscosity is reduced, oil becomes more thinner and flows smoothly in the engine. But engine become hotter and components wear faster than if used stock oil.
Every change in spec can be benefited if performed with precision and quality.

Re: Bajaj Avenger - All versions
Hi All,
Will you please advice me regarding avenger street 220.
1. Stability and vibrations at triple digit speeds ?.
2. Durability and reliability of engine / engine life ?

1 as in break in period I didnt drive in triple digit .But have touched it.Stability is fine . Vibration creeps in after 80KMH.
2 it is a Bajaj product
3 Again Bajaj product. As I have cruise while touring no problem.
My friend owns a street he says his bike is better than mine (
)
4 I must say go for it.

Re: Bajaj Avenger - All versions
1.stability wise not too different i guess and vibrations are definitely lesser in the avenger.
2.reliabilty ..i guess bajaj engines are tried and tested and same goes for tvs if u ask me....
3.ownership cost ..i dont think it would be much different from tvs..free services comes to around ₹700-800..but i have yet to experience as my bike is pretty new.touring is gonna be fun and comfortable.
..but most importantly since you're coming from apache means you're going to need a lot of getting used to..m saying this because I used to own an apache rtr 160 before avenger...starting from braking to using the horn or the passing light ..to putting your foot down in the traffic ..every things different from that on apache..not just the sitting posture.
So I'd like to say that please take your time and get test drives over and over until you feel you've got the hang of this bike and then decide..good luck!Originally posted by S3maphor3 View PostHi All,

1. Over all cost of ownership as compared to Apache.
2. Engine refinement , braking and reliability as compared to Apache.स्वभावो नोपदेशेन शक्यते कर्तुमन्यथा !

Re: Bajaj Avenger - All versions
1.cost of ownership should be somewhat same as tvs only I guess.. since bajaj is an Indian brand, spares n all are easily available everywhere
2.braking ..apache brakes I liked better..avenger's brakes lack the bite.
Engine refinement is better than apacheOriginally posted by S3maphor3 View PostThanks for ur advice. Would you also like to tell me about :-

You could get stock from Bajaj Spares, a colder one from Hero Spares(Hero Hunk) or a hotter bi-electrode one from TVS(Apache RTR)
The all basically cost the same, do not bother investing in premium plugs, just settle with factory recommended plugs and change at 10k intervals for best results.

Thank you for responding. Any particular reason for why I should keep away from premium ones ?Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostBoth Plugs are the same.

Say you spend 1240/- on a pair of Iridium's, then you being Indian blindly expect it to last for at least 50k km's which would be ideal in a CBR250R as the distributor cap is designed to protect the spark plug for so long, on the Bajaj 220 motors, you cannot keep it for long as the spark plug starts to rust and deteriorate which is a serious issue.
Anyone who says using XYZ plugs on a stock motorcycle makes noticeable difference is misguided, irrespective of the plug you use a new/hotter plug would improve cold start and throttle response over an old/colder plug which is due to obvious reasons, nothing to do with using a premium plug.Motorcycling Experience:

Re: Bajaj Avenger - All versions
Ok. I see your point. I anyway wasnt expecting forever endurance 'being an Indian' from an iridium based one like they advertise but thank you for the inputs. I guess the NGK conventional will be as good as stock so getting either one should make total sense, isnt it ?Originally posted by ashwinprakas View Post'0' Gains.
