    • Problem with the fuel tank cap

      (Avenger Street 150)
The fuel tank cap of my bike cant hold pressure of petrol in the tank. It vents out petrol when I park my bike in the sun. The amount of petrol coming out increases if I shake the bike, like when I put the bike onto the side stand from upright position.

A hissing sound can be heard from the tank cap. There will be a strong smell of petrol fumes when the bike is parked. Im sure this is a problem with the tank cap because the noise stops when I release the pressure from the tank by opening the cap once but its starts venting again after a few minutes as the pressure builds up again. This happens all the time and not just when there is a lot of petrol in the tank. Theres never more than 5 litres of petrol in the tank for everyday commute. The spring mechanism in the cap seems to be faulty, I compared it with an other bike at the service center.

I bought the bike from Khivraj Motors, Hoodi, Bangalore.I have had this issue since day one of getting the bike. During first service, the ASC did not recitfy this issue. When I told them about this, they behaved like they did’nt understand how petrol turns into fumes and creates pressure inside the tank. When I asked for a replacement under warranty they said I have to go to the Khivraj Bajaj branch at Indranagar and they’ll keep my bike to check if there is a problem with the part. There is another ASC very close to my house. Even they were very vauge about this. They said a new fuel tank cap costs Rs-400.

      1. Im not sure how warranty claim works. Bike is still under warranty period. 2 months left for a year. What should I do?
      2. Will this be covered under warranty?
      3. Can any ASC replace a part under warranty or only the branch where I bought the bike?
      4. Does the ASC have to keep my bike there to verify the warranty claim?

Question - Why would you want to wrap the exhaust ? Things such as the exhaust, engine fins, radiators, etc aren't meant for wrapping with surfaces that do not spread heat well.

It's been said by professional mechanic that Wrapping the bend pipe of exhaust traps heat inside and reduces exhaust gas density thereby expulse gas out easily and marginally increased power... Am doing it for reducing vibrations[emoji16]

M looking to buy engine oil but unfortunately online websites can't deliver engine oil like motul 3100 20W50 to my address. And here in my local stores the only good quality engine oil is Castrol activ 4T 20W50. I have done about 4500 km in my odometer.. Please suggest whether this oil is good enough for my avenger 220 street..

                Hi,
Its not true. exhaust Pipe help reduce heat from engine and exhaust valve to atmosphere. Wrapping it will affect cooling and will damage exhaust port. It will not reduce vibrations too.

                Dont do it!

                Hi
Your engine is new, so stick to normal oil, bajaj's 20W50 is good. You can also use castrol 20W50.
                Dont use Motul till 10000kms

                hi,
I will suggest not to go warranty route, its time consuming. Pay from pocket and get problem corrected from local mechanic. See for rubber washer on tank and cap, its not serious.

The headlamp is sligtly dim at idle. It goes to full brightness when I twist the throttle slightly.

                        Is this normal?

                        Should I get my bike's battery checked/charged?

Worried because there's no kick start. What are the indications of the battery going bad?

                              hi,
If your headlight turns ON even if engine is OFF then your battery needs attention.
If your headlight turns ON only after you start engine then yes,its normal.

Weak battery will give slow starting power in morning.

How many kilometers will an Exide battery last without any after market additions? (14k on the odo right now)

Should I charge the battery at regular intervals? If so, how often should I get it charged?

                                Im confused.

The headlamp does turn on (when I turn it on with the lights switch) even when the engine is off. The lights can be turned on even with the ENGINE KILL SWITCH off(The speedo is off, but headlights can be turned on). All this only if the KEY is turned. If I turn it OFF all electricals are off.

I havent got the electricals modified.

EDIT: I have have had a problem with electricals(at least the mechanic said so). He fixed it. I dont know what he did. This was during initial months of getting the bike. I dont remember the stock setup on the bike before that.
