  • Re: Honda Unicorn Dazzler

    Hi All,

This issue with choke and carburetor just reminded me of my bike's problem.
I just observed that when I use choke there is a thin spray of black oil from the exhaust. It never happens without choke.
Is it some trouble for me. I only ride on weekends, that too some weekends (on the average 4-5 days in a month, not uniformly distributed)
Total distance covered in last 7 months is only ~250kms as compared to ~19.7K kms in first ~1.5 years
The bike is timely serviced irrespective of the usage.
I am also experiencing comparatively low mileage now days. (may be a drop of 5-8Kms)

    Any suggestion is most appreciated.

    Thanks

Try that couple of times & see if it makes any difference in service provided.
i stay in the servicing bay for each and every servicing and every work small or big...

That makes a lot of difference in the service provided, I too do the same
If you just leave the bike they will keep delaying the service, I think I have mentioned before too that the service centre mechanics use the bikes to go out lunch and ride rash I have seen this and also a case where the scooter is missing from their premises...

Can coil rewinding and dc-conversion be done on my dazzler at home ? Or is it wiser to get it done from a mechanic ?
I wish to install a projector with a 55/60w bulb. The stock bulb sucks.
If there already is a post regarding coil rewinding and dc-conversion of dazzler, then please give me the link to it. That would be very grateful of you.
              Thanks in advance...

I am sharing my experience on coil rewinding , I got the coil rewound from R D Motovil from west bengal (Mr Rohit) he took six months to deliver the coil citing non availability of the new coil at his end which finally i sent him from mumbai , he said that it is simple to fix and any mechanic will manage to do it , when it came we fixed it as per instructions given by him on phone ( there was no instruction paper as promised) he had also said that it was plug and play which actually it was not we had to cut some wires to fix it as the sockets did not match, finally after various tries and blowing 3 bulbs it was fixed , within half an hour the battery got discharged , and we all know what a nightmare that can be for a bike that does not have a kick start , so after a lot of frustration i removed this piece of crap and re fixed the original in the bargain i damaged my clock & the rpm needle stops mid way when i switch off the ignition
My advice to you will be not to play with the electricals of dazzler as it very delicate and road side mechanics struggle with it to solve any problems. if you find the light low invest in a pair of led fog lights it is a better solution that rewinding.
This is my personal experience on offense intended
                cheers

I have done 37k with my dazzler and have already changed my back tyre to the stock Zapper C last week. I cannot find stock Zapper FQ in Chennai but have dealers who have Zapper FS for my front.

My question is can I replace my front tyre with Zapper FY of R15 old version because I heard it has excellent grip and way better than FS. My concerns are
                  i) What will be the lifetime of the tyre. Heard it wears of a little early. Is it worth a replacement
ii) Also, the stock size is 80/100 and the Zapper FY is 80/90. What chagnes would I be experiencing if I change my tyre.

Yesterday while riding in city conditions following were the problems encountered
1)I could not shift to Neutral the gear is shifting from 1st-2nd-1st but not on neutral
2)Also noticed while depressing the clutch lever fully I still felt like the bike is just about to go ahead (the feeling of initiation of movement)
3)RPM was not stable. Suppose RPM was at 1300, then comes down to 1200 hangs on there then further reduces and the motorcycle stops.
I used Mobil1 semi-synth oil and now changed to Shell AX-7 since then bike has rum for about 100 odd kms with no problems.
Regarding points 1&2 is my clutch gone and time to replace???
Bike has done 18xxx Kms, I am facing this problem for the first time.

@ 1 & 2 -- As your odo meter reading it too early for kaput of clutch Plats.
U should check ur clutch cable as it is not properly adjusted .

@ 3. Stall of ur engine is due to ur improper a/f ratio. Try to adjust it as described by sibun in cbz extreme thread.

---- Yeah you can replace. Fitting and clearance will be fine. ----

---- personal opinion, its worth it because front tyres anyway last longer than rear and the added grip you get totally makes it worth it. ----

---- because of the changed aspect ratio the tyre side wall height is less, therefore your speed and distance measurement will have an error. Your speedo will show higher speed than actual speed and your odo will run faster than actual distance. Not sure about magnitude of error. Your front suspension will also feel a bit stiffer than stock. Good idea to go slow over potholes to protect rims. ----

I removed the TPS sensor above shown in red circle.
Is it functional normally or required some calibrations.
If yes .then what would be procedure for it.

Reset your clutch lever free play. Your clutch is fine. Adjusting free play should solve bike creeping and gear shifting problem.

Stable rpm at idle on cold engine is an indicator of nothing. Your rpm should be relatively stable on a hot engine (15 min of in city riding). So set your idle rpm on a hot engine. Apart from a wrong A/F ratio, a clogged air filter will also result in unstable engine rpms.

So my advice is first check your air filter, if its dirty you can tap it a bit to get the loose dust off the surface, or scrape off some dirt using a SOFT paint brush, or replace air filter (since they are cheap). Second step is ride your bike, get the engine nice and hot, and set the idle rpm to 1400 rpms. Third step is tune your carb to set proper A/F ratio. U can read sibun's guide in CBZ extreme thread - or simply keep your Fuel screw on carb at 1.5 turns out from complete close - that is the factory setting for dazzler and should sort your fluctuating rpm problem out.

Also I hope your choke cable is working fine and your choke was not open - because open choke means fluctuating rpms.

Why did you remove it in the first place. Yes the TPS sensor is calibrated by assigning a complete open throttle position and a complete closed throttle position. There is nothing to calibrate for the in between positions AFAIK. No idea on how to do that. May be some one can correct me if I am wrong AND help you out as well.
