  • Battery Problem

My dazzler is almost 9 months old. bought on 31st august 2011.
I have been having battery problem for a week untill now, after I came back from a 10day trip.

The battery does not charge up even after a drive of 16KM bangalore traffic ride.

SO HERE COMES THE WORST PART,SINCE THE DAZZLER DOESN HAVE A KICK START, I HAVE BEEN PUSHIN AND STARTIN MY BIKE ON THE 1ST GEAR SINCE A WEEK.

I FACED THIS PROBLEM ON 23.05.2011, WENT TO HAIKU HONDA-OLD MADRAS ROAD. Though d guys ova der weren arrogant and accepted my bike as soon as I gave them, they however made me to make a pilgrimage to their holy service station in the morn and eve for 4 days all together.

DAY 1 - The technician looks into some so called electrical wiring(which he as such claims so) and says that there was some electrical wiring problem. Its resolved and jus push ur bike and start as for now, it will get charged as you start driving. Luckily they did it in some 45mins and handed ova d bike to me since I had to go to office in my bike. It neva got charged untill I reached office or when I went back home for almost a 40mins drive.

DAY 2 - when I went and politely said d next day, they reciprocated politely that kindly leave the bike for a day,we ll check the electrical wiring and charge the battery and give it to you by evening. so from the service station I had to change 2 buses to reach office. came back in the eve from office by changing 2 buses, so the person claims that wiring is a complicated job v need one more day. It would take 2 more hours to reach my home by bus. So I took my bike back sayin that I will come and leave it in the morning next day.

DAY 3 - They take my bike. I again go by the complicated bus journey to office and return back in the same manner. Only to wait for 45 more minutes after having left the bike for 7 hours. Now the bike electrically starts zzzzrrrrrrrrroooom!!!!...So I am just hoping that my bike is really alright and not that these people have just charged the spoilt battery for a temporary relief. Now am able to see the brightness in the backlight of the speedometer, unfortunately that was only to last for a few more hours which i neva knew.

DAY 4 (saturday)- I turn my keys on oly to find a dull look of the backlight of the speedometer. I am damn pissed. Its a weekend now, no mood to go leave my bike, since i have no alternate bike to even do household shopping. So I push and start my bike for every shop i stop. Tat was too embarrassing. But ve no other go.

DAY 5 - I land up at the service station and complain the same. They tell me to hand over the battery to send it to EXIDE. I say that I have had enough of it for a week, I cant keep pushing this all the way. Gimme a standby battery after taking some security deposit since my bike doesn have a kick start. But they coolly say v un have. I said then tat, atleast send a mechanic of urs along wit me to exide along wit ur other battery claims, so that i can personally ask for a standby battery. Then they make me wait for 1.35hrs to jus send d person.

Then I goto the EXIDE office oly to hear from the technician there that he needs to inspect it for 2 days before which he cant do anything. And he too says no standby battery.

so now, no battery ,no horns, no indicators,etc...

UNNO HOW MANY MORE DAYS OR WEEKS SHUD I WAIT...

THIS BIG THREAD IS OLY TO TELL THAT, ITS GONNA B REAL HELL IF THE BATTERY DRAINS UP IN A BIKE WITHOUT A KICK START. PARTICULARLY IF UR BATTERY IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY - U WUDN WANNA BUY A NEW ONE EITHER.

    • My suggestion for the above prob

If u have a least idea that ur battery has a problem, try to locate the nearest authorised exide service center and directly go get ur battery inspected der instead of going and troubling yourself at the honda service station for no useful results.

It will avoid the unnecessary day 1,day2,day3 and so on....lolz.....

          • Battery Problem - Forgot to say this

The CB Unicorn(the old one) has 7AH battery(which means in a fully charged battery, when 7A current is drawn from the battery it operates for 1hour. The vice versa of the same funda, if 1A current is drawn, then it operates for 7hours. To elaborate the same funda, 0.5A - 14hrs, 0.25 - 28hrs).
Note: I havent seen this 7AH battery which is der in the CB unicorn. But I do know that its d acid type one(unlike the maintenance free which is der in the dazzler).

Hence, given the fact that the dazzler doesn have a kick start it needs a higher capacity battery than the CB unicorn. Ironically, wat I could read from the dazzlers battery is 0.4A (5 ~ 10 hrs). Which means at the most 4AH.

Also the honda service center technicians say that the prev acid type batteries din have as much complaints as what these maintenance free batteries have brought.
Note: Even the dio has the maintenance free battery which i guess is 0.4A (5 ~ 10 hrs).

I OWNED A YAMAHA FZ PRIOR TO DIS,PRIOR TO WHICH I HAD A CB UNICORN. THOUGH I FEEL DAZZLER TO B D BEST MECHANICALLY AMONGST THIS 3.
BUT AS FAR AS THE BATTERY PART IS CONCERNED, TAKING THE FACT TAT FZ TOO IS AN ONLY ELECTRIC START BIKE I.E. NO KICK START. ITS BATTERY(ACID TYPE) IS MORE RELIABLE, I FACED DIS PUSH & START PROBLEM OLY ONCE AFTER I HAPPEN TO RETURN FROM A TRIP OF 16 DAYS. BUT ONCE I PUSHED AND STARTED THE BIKE, THE BATTERY CHARGED BY ITSELF AND I NEVA HAPPEN TO FACE THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN UNTILL I SOLD IT.

2 THINGS TO BE NOTED HERE:
1.THE FZ WHICH I AM TALKIN ABOUT WAS 2YRS OLD AT TAT TIME AND SO IS D BATTERY, AND MY DAZZLER IS JUS 9MONTHS OLD & SO IS D BATTERY.
2.THE HEADLIGHT OF THE FZ IS GLOWN BY THE BATTERY (DC), WHEREAS THE DAZZLER'S HEADLIGHT GLOWS FROM THE COIL CURRENT. SO THE BATTERY IS SAVED BY THE HEADLIGHT'S LOAD. SO D DAZZLER'S BATTERY SHUD VE A BETTER LIFETIME THAN D FZ'S. BUT IT AINT SO.

SO I STRONGLY FEEL HONDA IS GOT A REAL SUB-STANDARD BATTERY(EXIDE)

You guys,be more careful as your bikes don't have a kick starter. So when ever your bikes battery performs bad,Take it to the nearest battery dealer and get it checked. Bro nothing to worry,Don't turn on your lights without starting the engine. Then everything will be fine.

Just check out the current drawn by the light i.e. amps mentioned in it.It is generally mentioned as 1A or 2.5A or so. In case that is not mentioned then see for the wattage of the light. It is generally mentioned as 25W or 40W or so. So by applying the simple formula P=VI and applying simple maths u may kno that I=P/V (wherein V for dazzlers battery is 12.4V. for a better practical reason, take it to be 12.25V). If the Current is less than 1A,then u may use the lights like how aneesh has said. Else for the safer side u may better not use it.

For folks who dont know wats a push-start: Its all about having your bike in the 1st gear and applying the clutch lever and pushing the bike. Once the bike gains some 12-15kmph of speed, u have to release the clutch lever. This cranks the engine and hurray!!! ur machine is in the functioning mode. But neva throttle ur bike at any cost, else u ll land up lying on the asphalt...lolz...

Forgot to mention, I am sure that pushing & starting would definitely spoil the gear box. I dont know what harm it could cause for the engine, may b some automobile folks can throw in some light.

So, I would conclusively say that, Infact the safer side is MANDATORY for bikes which lack a kick start. Cuz I know how bugging it is to push & start. And I am still facing the same.

                      • Hi Guys, rode the CB Unicorn today and when I compare it to my dazzler... Well I guess there is no comparison.. I feel Unicorn is better that dazzler...
                        1. Unicorn accelerates faster than dazzler...
                        2. Engine noise is hardly any in Unicorn over Dazzler, even at speeds of triple digits...
                        3. Unicorn runs smooth at high speeds over dazzler which runs a bit sluggish (could be possible only in my bike) and makes more noise...
Any similar observations by anyone ? or anything to comment on the above...

Except for the second point, I didn't feel the same way. Unicorn is much smoother n quieter but it is not, from my experience, faster accelerating.
                          Peace \m/

                              • Guys, stop worrying about the battery. The 5A battery is more than enough for the duty. I have been using 60/55w bulb for the past 5 months (only lower beam is good and higher beam is not good; was lazy to put the stock bulb back). No battery issues whatsoever. No weak horn or no starting problems. Bike starts with single press even after 5 days of rest to the bike (of course, with choke on).

Those who use the HIDs will have to worry about the drainage of the battery and starting problems.

@abdurrules, please do not use all caps and higher font sizes, against the forum rules.

@psycho_omkar, you are true, except the acceleration. Acceleration maybe equal for both Unicorn and Dazzler. Torque spread for Uni is more in the lower gears compared to Dazzler, and hence you might have felt better acceleration in Uni; more over, the powerband is a bit at higher rpms for Dazzler.
