This says that KTM will be built in India with high level of localisation. Hence, the only reason that would stop Bajaj from pricing it aggresively would be the fear of diluting the Pulsar brand.

Right, these are made in India KTM's.. like the CBR250R will be made in India read this

Bajaj Auto has already started manufacturing the bikes in India and has shipped around 1,000-2,000 bikes to the European market, where it has launched Duke 125..

            Fact
#1 - Payeng's statement on official statement from BAL on pricing
#2 - KTM's are either SKD/CKD & are not built in this country
            #3 - All SKD/CKD's attract 60% import taxes
#4 - C250R do not attract import taxes as they're built in this country

Now tell me mate, how do you expect even the KTM125 to be priced lower or at par with C250R?
Duke 125 is indeed made in India in Pune and is being exporter worldwide same as desi Honda Stunner is exported in west with a name CBF125.

As far as I remember reading here in xBhp itself was that KTM125 will cost around 1 Lakh +/- 10K atleast in India. Above that would be an unrealistic Indian price for a 125cc of such caliber no matter how its being made and by whom.

@payeng - are you sure about the double the price of pulsar thingy? and if it is so, is the model compared here is P150? coz that would be bring up the price of D125 to rumored lakh rupees.

And ^^^ was the primary point that made me BELIEVE that KTM's are not built in India

Mr. Rajiv Bajaj has given an interview to BS Motoring (Feb 2011 Issue), in that interview Mr. Bajaj has clearly stated that India will get a 200 cc KTM NOT a 125 cc since India doesn't have any regulation which restricts learners to 125 cc (like in Europe) and also a 125 cc at the high price doesn't make sense here.

In the same interview he had said about the KTM costing twice that of the Pulsars. Which Pulsar, was not mentioned in the interview.

Yes, Correct even I remmember reading the same article and he also mentioned that if they try to bring both 125 and 200 then the price incurred will be almost same and it will not make any sense to put both of them in a similar price bracket therefore only 200 will make it to India. He also mentioned that 200 will be priced between 1-2 Lakhs (or was it 1-1.5, so do not remmember the figure now).

                  • If bajaj would had managed it to launch a KTM 200 nearby the CBR launch it would had made a lot more sense. There is still no concrete news on its launch. But if the dates were announced now, i guess more people would cancel bookings for CBR.. I mean to say, the more bajaj delays it, people like me who are waiting for a new bike will go for honda and Bajaj will miss quiet a good share.. And we ofcourse wont think of buying a new one atleast for 2 years after a 1.5L purchase..
You gotta risk it.. to get da biscuit !!!

                            • KTMs are built in India - incase the debate is still on...

KTM Duke 125: Not just for kidz - Features - Visordown

"To make a 125 appealing the first box that must be ticked is affordability. KTM have adopted a David and Goliath approach utilising their manufacturing partnership with the world's fourth largest motorcycle producer, India's Bajaj. Design and development carried out in Austria, machined and bolted together in India."

Which brings me to my old point, that its a KTM product and not a Bajaj product as stated by someone earlier.
Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.
