So, R-15 being the best and the costliest sells around 1500 bikes per month or still less. So the annual marketshare of R-15 is around 15-16000 bikes per year. It has neither monopolised 150 cc market nor occupied 200 + cc market due to varied reasons.
Even if a CBR 150 is launched at a similar price like R-15, it would only be able to poach customer from R-15 only, thus getting only 8-10,000 customers per year. Clearly, this much demand is not sufficient to productionise the bike for indigenous production which is the basic requirement for pricing it near R-15 price. Only if all 2 valve air-cooled 150-160cc engines are wiped out from India, then CBR 150's entry into India would make sense. I hope you all understand the logic. Except looks, CBR 250 is miles ahead of CBR 150 in all departments. Also, new CBR 150 is not like old CBR 150 (light and agile) as it has gained around 23 kgs. over the old one.
I do think that Yamaha and also Honda would never dream of volumes with these models.
The purpose of these bikes is to establish their brand value and highlight the kind of tech they have.
volumes is a completely different game. Therefore pricing for the purpose of improving sales volumes is just not logical.
For Yamaha the R15 was never a volume product..so will be for Honda..
my thoughts only

good posts man...
CBR150R will be a good (or better?) alternative to R15 and the sub-1 lakh bikes..(if its less than a lakh)..will make more sense for people who have to stretcccchhh their budget even to get R15,like many of us...CBR250R even at 1.5L will be unaffordable
but looks like it doesn't make sense for Honda in terms of market positioning of these two bikes...its reasonable... but we are greedy when it comes to bikes

True that the CB150R will will give the R15 a good run for it's money, especially if it makes a lil more power than the R15 on paper apna junta will queue up to get this. In fact I would nt mind one in my stable, it would be lovely to have this acoumpanying my babay YAMAHA supersports
Even i lile the looks of this 150 more than the 250 that we are seeing on paper. The shut lines have been hidden more sweetly on this one and overall looks of better proportion.Originally posted by pjamessmith View Post

the current speculation on the CBR250R price is 1.8L OTR...with this price, there is a substantial gap in the performance bike segment with R15 and the like below 1L and CBR at >1.5....honda can definitely plug in the CBR150....at a 1L +/- 10k price point it wont be a threat to the 250CBR....but only if honda want to and thats a totally different issue...

and this 150 has been launched in thailand ?
what is finally in store for india ?
A very good and safe biker not only because he can pop up either of the wheels, scrape his knees on a corner or go fast and make it look stylish but because he very well knows his limits and capabilities and has the patience to learn about others and ride safe ! :)
