Yes, it's for those people that don't feel comfortable having only 2 mirrors.

But seriously, it's because of part sharing.

To all your thoughts CBR 250R is the good option, the only thing that might worry is the huge price difference(50K is not a small amount for many) between R15 & CBR250R. But if you can think it as an investment a more money can give you a better bike and that's CBR250R. In terms of comfort Honda stays ahead. But what lacks in them is the immd kick off given by Yamaha's say in a traffic signal I always see Pulsars & R15 shooting and me with my ZMA take a liitle time to catch up. But once I make it over 80KmPH its all a different story. I guess its bcs of the slow revving engines from Honda. And I have heard from many that after 100 ZMA are difficult to catch however its top speed is much less than Pulsar.
Thanks Ravi for your prompt and fast reply, much appreciated.
            1. I have read that R15 lacks low-end and that it is not a traffic tool. Hence I do not think it shoots better. But CBR having better low-end, would be a better shooter too.
            2. I have seen on highway, ZMA trying hard to catch up with R15, quite contrary to what you have thought.

            Nevertheless, thanks a lot dude

This question is completly based on personal of opinion and taste and is bound to differ from person to person. I feel that the rear of the R-15 is punny although I believe that the rear tires are great although they look like suffering from malnutrition. In my Opinion front of R15 is better than that of CBR.
                2. which one would be better in fuel efficiency? (I am not meaning mileage here, I understand bigger CBR cannot give mileage of R15)
It will be unfair to compare both these bikes as they fall in different class, R-15 gives a Mileage og 35-40 whereas CBR is supposed to give somewhere between 25-30.
                3. Which one would be durable with good fit and finish?
We need to see the CBR in flesh to judge this but whatever I have heard from the fellow BHPian it seems that fit and finish of CBR is top notch.
                4. Which one would be better at vibe-free high revving on highways?
This needs a detailed ride report from a person who has driven both R15 and CBR for which we need to wait for a while.
                5. a better cornerer?
Again this needs a detailed ride report from a person who has driven both R15 and CBR for which we need to wait for a while. But I would still reiterate that we should not be comparing these two bikes.
                6. more versatile - daily comfort riding and touring?
According to me CBR has more upright riding stance and therfore should be better in daily comfort riding and touring
                7. which one would better justify the cost-for-technology aspect?
In my opinion if you are getting a world class 250CC bike at this price then it is a steal, and if you can affor it then go for it. I am also a big fan of R15 and rate it very highly but when you are getting a bike like CBR with a price difference of 50K as compared to R15 whereas CBR's nearest compititor is priced at double the cost then I think you know what to do.

Thanks to all responders in advance.
Please see my answers in bold. I can understand your dilema as I am also going through the same. I do not have any technical knowledge and am giving my personal opinion so apologies to anyone who feels offended and please feel free to correct me if I am wrong somewhere.

I feel that we should not be comparing these 2 bikes at all, but the price difference of 50K can be huge for most of us because of which we are bound to compare these 2 bike not because of the technology or CC but only because of a sole reason - MONEY.

If the news of 50% down payment is true in case of CBR then i do not have any option other that shelving the plan for CBR and settle down for the R15 and if it is false then I will close my eyes and go for the CBR.

Other thing which I am concerned about the maintenance and other costs involved in CBR, as we know HONDA being HONDA will charge for everything and the spare part cost is also on the higher side, after all they do not treat side stand and number plates as Standard and charge for it seperately stating that they are accessory (these are just some small points). I hope they do not do the same with CBR and keep the spares specially the fairings price a bit reasonable because in my opinion it will the more prone to damage in case the bike has a fall.

Friends! Please do not flame me if you do not agree with me on any point as I am just trying to help a fellow XBHPian with whatever little knowledge I have.

                CHEERS!!!

Thanks shadabk01 and I appreciate your honest efforts in neatly composing your reply to my post. Am a bit comfortable to hear that there is one more person in the same dilema as I am in. Fyi, I have enough budget for the CBR and the price difference of Rs.50k is not big to me. I am only equally strongly pulled towards both bikes and hence the confusion.
Btw, I have heard R15 spares are not cheap either. The front panels that cover engine would cost 8k as said by a showroom person to me. I feel, in maintenance, both the bikes are comparable. And I have never heard Yamaha billing its customers reasonably

Are you sure about the price quoted by the Yamaha guy does it include the complete front of the bike including the front headlight dome becuase I thaught it was cheaper, I do have a link which I got from a fellow XBHPian but unable to access it from office so can not confirm on the spare price point. The link is Yamaha Parts Price List - 2010

I hope the spares will be not as costly as the NINJA (I read somewhere in XBHP that the rear Alloys alone costs around 30k) because NINJA is brought in form of CKD and the spares are not manufactured here unlike the CBR.

Anyways if the monetary issues are not a big factor for you then my suggestion is to go for the CBR

The bikes are to be dispatched from Gurgaon on 8th of April, and it takes around 7 days to reach Bangalore. It might reach early also, but date of dispatch is 8th. They are getting 30 bikes in the first lot. And as of today, they have 44 bookings.

And he gave me one more bad news too. He said there'll be an increase of 1.5k to 2k in the on-road prices. This is because of the increase in VAT in Karnataka (from 1 to 2 per cent). It will be effective from 1st April. So the Std might cost 1.5k more and ABS might cost 2k more.

Bangalore already has the highest On-Road and Ex-showroom price and now this!!!
Which is exactly why I hate this stupid Govt. OT

Nonetheless, here's my booking story - I booked my red CBR 250R from Pashankar Honda in Pune on 11-01-11 (and another one for a cousin in the last week of Feb). The sales guy told me that mine was the 7th / 8th booking and that i would get the bike as soon as the deliveries start. I'm not really happy about the way Pashankar Honda has treated me as a customer for a bike that is worth 1.5L. Not that i'm asking them to treat me like a prince but what i got was vague answers / unattended phone calls / waiting in queue for the booking amount payment (always thought the sales rep is supposed to do it, right?).

Anyway, The last time I called the sales rep was 3 days back when he told me that the (initial) launch news was fake and that he would call in the second week of April when they'll get pricing details about the bike.. Just wanted to know if there's anyone else who's gone through the same with Pashankar Honda... Completely average customer service!

And yes, like everyone else who's booked his bike, CAN'T WAIT!! :-|

P.S.: Been following this thread.. Haven't seen many bookings from Pune here... Or is it just my ignorance? :-|

P.P.S.: n00b killers - please be kind.. else excuse this post :P

                        Cheers,

Congrats, welcome to the club!!! All of us have been getting somewhat similar responses from dealers in Bangalore.

Nice bike. I am no expert in the technical aspects of a motorcycle but for me it looked good. The front number plate is, well.. We checked the welding on the main frame inside the front fairing and the work wasn't that good. Most members agreed to it. Rear tyre looks awesome and so does the tyre hugger. Console is pretty neat without any complications and exposed metal parts like the R15. Bike sure gives the big bike feel. Fairing at some places was creaking. The rear tail-lamp section was a bit loose. Well that's about it. I'll let the experts speak. Single horn(so it may be weak).
Nice thing you guys did, thanks for the pic.

Before CBR was announced, I was all set to buy R15 and paused after hearing about CBR. Ever since I have been in dilema and it is killing me ever since - just no clarity on what to buy
I understand that no one or not many would have had a feel of the CBR but definitely so about R15 as it is getting 3 years old after launch.
Kindly give me your unbiased opinions from your experience with R15 and impressions of CBR that at their on-road prices of Rs.1,17,000 and Rs.1,67,670 in Bangalore,

Please note that in Bangalore there is price difference of Rs.50k betwen R15 and CBR.

                        Please help your fellow XBHPian.

Thanks to all responders in advance.
Well, one more thing which I would like to bring to your notice, R15's have now engines made in India. The initial two years of R15s saw their engines being imported. Now the engines are being made in India, as a part of cost cutting measure. So you really can't belt the bike that much as you could have done with a 2009 model or earlier.

@all: Hope this piece of information is in agreement with all forum members.

Yes, when I was about to buy R15, I made a detailed enquiry about the maintenance to the showroom guy. The front fairing means the panels on either sides that cover the engine and does not include the headlight section. Additionally, I had visited once DTW (Downtown motor works) in Bangalore on near KH Road, who does bike modifications. I spotted Pulsar with R15 front fairing, including the headlight section. he mechanic told me it costed Rs.20k for the full front fairing of 15.
Dude, atleast in India, these companies when they offer you world class products, they charge you world class too but rather do not service your product world class

I guess, its same with all the dealers in Bangalore. Haven't really heard anyone here saying that CBRs will be in Bangalore before 10th April.
