Even I'm also eagerly waiting something to come up for the KTM 200.

For those who thought that the KTM 125 Duke looks small.. its now clear that it isn't so small after all.

              • today morning at 8.00 AM i again saw a KTM between pune and lonavala as i was coming from pune to aamby valley.

seems like a lot of on road testing is being carried out, nowadays, this is the second time i saw KTM's between pune and lonavala. last time it was in a bunch of 3-4 KTM's this time it was solo.

i was in a hurrry for office, so could not stop and chat with the rider. next time, i surely will.

but he was riding awfully slow, my humble P150 crossed him like a superbike (i was doing 90-95 kmph, he may be at 50-55 kmph).

KTM Spills the Beans on Future Mini-Dukes

NEW DELHI: Austrian sports bike maker KTM today said it will launch its first motorcycle, jointly developed with Bajaj Auto Ltd, in India at the Auto Expo to be held in the capital early next year.

The company, in which Bajaj Auto holds nearly a 40 per cent stake, had already launched its first co-developed bike in Europe in March this year.

"During the Delhi Auto Expo next year, we will be launching the first 200-cc Duke bike in India," Cross Industries AG CEO and also the CEO of KTM Sportmotorcycle AG , Stefan Pierer, told reporters here.

The bike will be produced at the Pune facility of Bajaj Auto, he added.

When asked about the company's sales target in India, Pierer said: "We expect to sell 25,000 to 30,000 units in India in the first year of launch. After one year, we will launch the 350-cc Duke in India."

KTM had launched the 125-cc 'Duke', developed jointly with Bajaj Auto, in Europe in March this year.

"We have already sold nearly 7,000 units in Europe. We are targeting to sell about 10,000 units in Europe this year," he said.

The two partners are looking to expand the markets for their bikes.

"All the bikes that we produce in India will be global models. Now we are looking to export KTM bikes from Bajaj facility to other emerging markets like Thailand, Malaysia, and Brazil," Pierer said.

Overall, KTM aims to sell 82,000 units this year, up from 62,000 units in 2010, he said, adding that by 2015, it was targeting the sale of 2 lakh units.

In 2007, Bajaj picked up a 14.9 per cent stake in KTM for around Rs 300 crore. A year later, it increased its stake in the European bike-maker to 25 per cent and has been increasing it gradually.

Both companies also signed an agreement for jointly developing 125-cc bikes, which will be built at Bajaj's Chakan plant near Pune for exports to the European market under the KTM brand. They had earlier planned to launch their bikes in India in the latter half of this year.

I would say that they are testing it so good, and there's whole lot of time, that for the first time, we might actually get a Bajaj that's just as reliable as the Honda's.
They are reliable already I would say, but some niggles creep up every now and then.

                    • Disheartened by the news... Assuming they launch it by Jan-2012 (at the Auto Expo), deliveries might only begin by late-Feb/March (realistically)...
If that's the case, would cause many to rethink (incl. me)...

actually its a good move .... with new Pulsis around the corner and by launching KTM early they don;t wanna screw up pulser sales .... remember, even if duke priced 1.5lac a well built pulsy for 1.2lac can easily eat duke customers ... now ppl will also consider that duke tech will be present in pulser also ..

moreover its good to launch in new year ..

                            • Wowwwwww.. Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki.. take a load of this and be ready with the right ammunition for the occasion

Duke 200 is almost here and wowwww.. we will get a 350cc in a year after that!! that sounds too good. That means competition needs to step up the game.

Bajaj is not too worried about KTM's sales in India, though they will make every effort to make it a best seller in it's segment, they won't bother much if Pulsar eats up it's sales or vice versa.. either way they will get profits and if KTM eats Pulsar's sales they will get much better margins, which is always welcome for Rajiv Bajaj.

Personally, I don't think Bajaj will price a bike above 1 lakh, coz Pulsar's image of affordable performance doesn't go too well with that kind of price and Bajaj is known to price to their products exceptionally well, let's see what's in the store for us as it's just couple of months now. Anyways, I believe KTM brand is better equipped to deal the above 1 lakh market, it has all the right ingredients to take on Jap brands.
