Whats with the cbr bashing?! the only bad thing about the cbr is the welds and that is just my opinion. The KTM is manufactured here, the R15 is ! Heck BMW, Audi, Honda, Suzuki etc etc etc etc so called great japanese manufacturers manufacture here.

And FYI the flimsy plastic is from a bike manufactured in thailand. And the CBR in thailand/US also had bad welds.
Chill Dude!!! I am not bashing CBR. I never said it was inferior or anything. Just felt quality of bike imported from Japan/Thailand (CKD/CBU) is better.BMW's, Merc's are not made here completely. They are assembled from parts manufactured elsewhere. They have high import duties for nothing. They are mostly CBU's or CKD's. And even if there is localisation, crucial parts like the Engine, transmission etc are still imported.

And the Japanese (Honda, Toyota, etc) still import their Engine, Transmission. They too are not completely made in India. (every nut and bolt used in the car)

yes, there are manufacturers who do manufacture completely in India, but I never said anything against them.

No, I am not doubting the quality of machines "Made In India" however, I think there's lot of scope for improvement and if I have an option and means then Yes I will shell out more for the imported stuff.

There's some difference in the Engine of CBR that is made in Thailand. Indian version has different internals.

I prefer imported stuff. Thats my opinion.

If BAL manufactures it in India, the Import duty will be totally off. That can bring down the price to quite an extent.
Agreed it would reduce the cost, provided that they manufacture it. And I doubt that would happen either. Kawasaki already has bigger plants in the south east Asian region to supply bikes. I don't think they would feel the need to do the same here. And Bajaj, at the moment does not have the facility (space) to manufacture the Ninja250R alongside its current models.
Right now that would have to come at the cost of production of current models.

I'm not the one making choices here ..that's the way it is right now. If it changes for good then great for us all. I would love to have more affordable products here, but if I'm Kawasaki or Bajaj, I wouldn't setup a plant or another manufacturing area just for the Ninja250R

Unfortunately, u are absolutely correct buddy..
I know, there is very very remote chances of Kawaks being manufactured in India..
It was just WISHFUL THINKING of me

                    • looks more like the current zx-10r. Could have named it rather as zx-2r. The two limited editions look fabulous ...

Ya, certainly a nice direction taken by bajaj.
the last line of the site tell -" Currently there are no plan to launch a naked version in India."
This certainly now makes sense -with the high performance naked bikes coming from KTM brand, the faried ones will be supplied from Kawks.
                          so no cannibalism..

I only hope they don't delay in getting the new 250. Launching the 2012 650 this late is worrying. But then again the 250 is another market segment altogether, so hoping for an early 2013 launch...

The naked 650 would surely put a dent in Bajaj's plans for KTM. Kawasaki would only introduce it after they themselves have a firm footing in the Indian markets.

I think making it in India will not match the quality of that made in Japan or Thailand (My opinion). Don't mind paying extra for a CBU or CKD. And I think Kawasaki wont allow any localisation in Ninja for the fear of ruining their reputation. I guess this was the agreement between 2 companies before Bajaj decided to launch Ninja in India.
I would prefer a India made 400 cc parallel twin (If any blessed manufactures launch it) at that price instead of an imported 250cc.

                              • It seems Kawasaki has launched the 2012 Ninja 650 without ABS. Does this mean that 250R would also most probably come without ABS option in India ?

The closest to that would be KTM Duke 350 and Bajaj Pulsar 350SS coming next year
