I'm of the opinion that the Japanese manufacturers have gotten very good at producing motorcycles. What I think that means is that they make the first batch of prototype bikes in their manufacturing plants, refine them and only rarely will these prototypes be seen outside on the public roads, testing for real world conditions.
Also when these bikes are spotted they are usually in an advanced stage of completion. It is rare to see a heavily camouflaged Jap bike.

On the other hand you have Bajaj and a new entrant, Mahindra who have a very long way to go, to get to that stage.
So they test and test and test their bikes till just about everyone interested has seen a heavily camouflaged prototype in just about all parts of the country.

The 200/400SS and the Mojo are just two very popular examples in the current time frame.

They test and test and when the product finally releases and the poor chaps who bought the first batch of bikes start riding them, they get to know just how effective all that super hardcore testing really was

The end result of all this is that with less testing by the Japs there's less spy shots and so we don't know what they will release next.
Whether the companies believe in leaking spy shots is a question we need ask for Bajaj and now Mahindra.
