In a big boost to prime minister Narendra Modi's make in India call, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) yesterday said that it would start producing its high-end sports bike CBR-650 in the country and also laid the foundation to set up its Rs 1,100 crore scooter manufacturing plant in Gujarat .
"We announce that (from) next year Honda will start making CBR -650 in India. By this, we will not only open up the skill of our existing manpower but it will also showcase the Honda India's manufacturing quality to the world," HMSI Vice-President Y S Guleria told reporters here on the sidelines of a foundation stone laying ceremony for its upcoming plant at Vithalapur in Ahmedabad district.

The Honda CBR 650F is a 649cc inline 4 cylinder motorcycle which produces 86 bhp at 11000 rpm and 63 Nm of torque at 8000 rpm. This CBR weighs in at 208 kg and is expected to be sold in India by mid 2015. This will be manufactured in India for export as well. The bike will be featuring ABS as standard and has been tuned for peak torque at lower rpms, thus making it a capable touring machine. With styling cues being borrowed from the larger capacity CBR, this is quite a head turner.
