  • Honda to produce CBR650 in India

Great News for the biking community. Made in India product coming soon. Read More Here

In a big boost to prime minister Narendra Modi's make in India call, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) yesterday said that it would start producing its high-end sports bike CBR-650 in the country and also laid the foundation to set up its Rs 1,100 crore scooter manufacturing plant in Gujarat .

"We announce that (from) next year Honda will start making CBR -650 in India. By this, we will not only open up the skill of our existing manpower but it will also showcase the Honda India's manufacturing quality to the world," HMSI Vice-President Y S Guleria told reporters here on the sidelines of a foundation stone laying ceremony for its upcoming plant at Vithalapur in Ahmedabad district.

The Honda CBR 650F is a 649cc inline 4 cylinder motorcycle which produces 86 bhp at 11000 rpm and 63 Nm of torque at 8000 rpm. This CBR weighs in at 208 kg and is expected to be sold in India by mid 2015. This will be manufactured in India for export as well. The bike will be featuring ABS as standard and has been tuned for peak torque at lower rpms, thus making it a capable touring machine. With styling cues being borrowed from the larger capacity CBR, this is quite a head turner.

Damn, news after news of new motorcycles suddenly. YZF3, R25, two new kawasakis, benelli and now this. If it is really going to be sold by mid 2015, I'm going to have to rethink my decision of buying an RC390 now.

^^^ I had to check the photos again to see what girl you are talking about! The bike looks great, and being made in India, it will have a much more logical price tag than Ninja 650. Can we expect it at <4L?

If it is going to cost below 4L.. its going to kill the sales of every other bike sold in India..

ex-showroom < 4L is a bang-on-target price . But being manufactured in India, we don't want cheap switchgear and a inline 4 with no Engine kill switch will be a disaster. I guess they haven't decided where the manufacturing will happen. May be in the new plant in Gujrat or could be elsewhere. I read that the plant is Gujrat is for mainly scooters and its gonna be one of the world largets scooter producing facility.

Honda always charges premium so I don't think it would be in the 4lac range. Plus, its a 4 cyl mill. It may undercut ninja 650 by 70 odd k. Expecting 5 to 5.1 lac otr.

With lot of options available, I am getting more confused day by day. Wanted to buy ER-6N. Now CBR-650F is going to come. Very difficult to decide. Should I go ahead and book the Green Ninja or wait for the I-4 from Honda. So damn tough

Perhaps, I missed the girl altogether, had to scroll up again ...

Great news this is, perhaps they can price it at N650 level now. If done, it will give serious competition to the successful Ninja and in all probability beat it too. What golden days for Indian motorcyclists..

                            Ninja 650 & ER-6n Killer.

Ninja 650, with an in-line 4 cyl engine and lesser price, too good.

                            made in India.

looks could have been improved, specially the headlight part, a twin headlamp setup would have been great.
