One more picture for you to have a close look on fazer 250's. Both the engines are exactly the same...

Quality and fit and finish of the recent YAMAHA bikes are lot to be desired...Wonder they have to downgrade the quality to suit the needs of the india.

May be you are right. I have not seen its reviews and ownership threads but this bike come under FZ series which is high on quality and finish. As far as engine is concerned, its almost a decade old yamaha engine which is currently on sale in brazilian market and it means you don't have to worry about its life and reliability (link below)

              Yamaha - Fazer 250
There are minute differences between the Fazer 250 in the link you have attached and the one that has been caught testing..

The Engine casing is a little different. The chassis looks different to me as well.. check out the the exhaust pipe from the engine outlet.

I thought Fazer was a semi faired bike in the international market..

Also, going by that URL given by you. the bike might be powered by 20bhp.. which isn't sufficient for a 250cc bike..

Engine is the only common thing between both the bikes. As per my analysis yamaha will use modified fz's chassis and bolt this engine on to it. I think fz's chassis can handle 20-22 bhp easily after some minor modifications.

This engine's power figures are the reason why I am expecting yamaha to price it some where around 1.1 lacs max

I do not know why these companies (Yamaha & Honda) are still behind 250-300cc Singles? sure it fits right where Indians mostly want - "Big CC Bike + Not so expensive + Good on Mileage". To really change the scenario we need ligh-twins 250-400cc!

Off-course Yamaha would've gone that route if the Kawasaki Z250 saw some success atleast. But they could take the leaf out of the Binelli's books which is seen increasing popularity esp the TNT-300s.

But what surprises me the most is Honda CBR 250 has been around for donkey ages, yet Honda never bothered to give it a Naked Avatar! The Hornet seemed a decent platform for the CBR 250 engine! Similarly the R3 with a modified headlights & stirped fairing would be an ideal light-Naked.

Unfortunately these Indian arms of such pioneering motorcycle companies understand this market all too well!

exciting times to be bike fans in India

You are right, it is looking beefier and muscular than current FZ. Pillion seat is also looking bigger and more comfortable than before. I am not sure but I have a feeling that Yamaha must have increased its wheelbase also as it is looking little larger than current generation model. Icing on cake will be its yamaha's trademark handling, nimbleness, refinement and reliability which no other bike maker can match.

Agreed.. along with a decent pricing will make this bike a hot seller

anyone interested in guessing a price tag?

considering current fz16 and bajaj dominar prices, this looks to be 1.1 lac ex showroom bike. anything above 1.2 lac and yamaha is pushing its luck. shouldnt be priced more than 10-15k over tvs rtr 2004v

My guess is 1 to 1.1 lacs max but at this price point it will definitely cannibalize R15 which yamaha will try to avoid. FZ fi is currently priced at 80k ex-showroom and R15 is priced at 1.15lacs ex-showroom which leaves a gap of 35k and I think yamaha should fit fz250 in between as their is now R&D cost involved in developing neither this engine nor the chassis except some face lifting and reinforcement.
