just took a long test ride on the new P180 and as far as my views on the bike goes it is a good product from bajaj. the moment u'r astride the bike, the clip on hande bars and rear set footrest from the 220 gives u a sporty seating pos. the bigger forks and brake rotors up front along with the eliptical section swingarm at the rear do a great job of improving the bikes handling and braking, it just goes into a corner and comes out of one very neat, except that it still does not have the stiff feeling from the suspensions like the apaches, one which u wud notice only out on the race track. the engine has been tuned really well, though lacking a little on the bottom, the surge past 6000rpm is FANTASTIC, now with 17ps performance is almost equal to the pulsar 200, the engine vibes have also reduced a lot, though still scaling on the negative side of refinement. I stepped into the showroom with a thought in mind like everyone else, that this wud just be a fancy masala of P220 parts, but the way it has been fused and the overall ride quality of the product shows up for itself.
all of us know it has bits and parts ripped from the P200 and P220, but again bajaj have done a good job at mix matching the parts atleast, which is not an easy job. ofcourse it would have been an dissapointment for people expecting a completely new bike, but for the features u get out of this price i bet there is not many bikes around that can give it a fight.
P.S : i still dont know the price of apache RTR 180, thus the above qoute

Took a short test ride of the new 2009 P180 UGIV:
Seating position is sporty thanks to those clip on handlebars and rearset footpegs. The bike started with a smoother crank than my P220 (
) and compared to the older P180 UGIII version, the gear changes were more precise and slicker with no false neutrals. Finding neutral was also effortless with the toe-only gear shifter.
Though the initial grunt feels slightly lesser than the P200, once one the move the bike spins cleanly past the 6000 rpm mark. Didn't manage to rip the bike as much as I would have liked but the bike remained almost vibration free till around 6500 RPM and with speeds upto 83 kmph in top gear. Just wish it was a few kilos lighter for a more zippy feel.
Handling of the P180 UGIV is eerily similar to the P200. The rear suspension had the softest setting and even if I didn't get the chance to experiment with harder settings, the bike does feel more stable around corners than the older P180 UGIII.
A few guys can complain that the new 2009 P180 UGIV isn't a major upgrade but just mix and match of existing parts from the Pulsar range and also that in terms of looks it takes away the exclusivity of the P200.
But in these times of Global Recession, when new model launches are actually not on the agenda of manufacturers, the new P180 UGIV which costs about Rs.4000-5000 more than the P150 (and about Rs. 3000 more than the P180 UGIII), and comes with stuff like Tubeless Tyres, Clip On handlebars, DC Lighting, Fatter front forks.. is now according to me a seems to be a good value for money (It still costs less than the 153 cc FZ16 the Apache RTR Fi 160).
Summary: Looks, feels and rides like the P200. Engine and gearbox have become smoother and more refined than the UGIII version.

The system also switches off the headlights after a few secs if the engine isn't running (preventing battery drain).

i loved the look of the 180 2009........
the 37mm dia forks from 220,raised end can,tht elliptical swingarm,3d logos all look awesomly good....
the engine is more refined now with limiter softly cutting at 10000 (earlier it used to ruin the RPM party immediately...
)gearbox is more precise now wth positive shifts......
the power is pumped to 17.02ps...
RTR 180 with 17.03ps will have a bike to look out for now........
and is 200 FI coming full faired as 220,with black theme....
check this video out.......

That isn't even close to a full-blown 'road-test'. That is just a short video clip, with some stunts (wheelies & stoppies) thrown in for the 'oomph' factor!Originally posted by deepthekool View Post
