its obvious.. lakhs of rupees would have been invested for getting the current profile and compound tyres, I guess no one is better than company ppl in these things..Originally posted by pranay View PostChanging tyres = Improvement : Not sure about this. But inverse of it has been seen:
No brand wars intended but I've heard of the R15 handling going for a toss when some guys put fat tyres for looks.

You must add this to your knowledge which is a soft compound tyre grips better than the normal tyre, so does make a difference sir.
One more thing i must say is that RTR handles very well you know but upto certain extent it start losing its grip coz of the tyre (this thing is being mentioned by loads of journalist of respective magazines)Last edited by Rajat Bhanti; 07-10-2009, 12:55 AM.

I guess no one is getting my point.. I know good set of tire can make a difference.. What i intended was tyre change alone cant better the handlingOriginally posted by Rajat Bhanti View PostYou must add this to your knowledge which is a soft compound tyre grips better than the normal tyre, so does make a difference sir.

While tyres do play an important part in handling, its not the be all and end all of it. Frame, suspension are the other important things that come into picture when talking about handling.
Tyres seem to have improved in the newer iteration of the 220 and hence offer much more confidence than before.
Suspension seems to have been tweaked and made stiffer and hence slight improvement even there.
Frame still remains the same and so the backbone of the handling department is still weak.
I agree with Mithun about the point that Mags are going overboard and constantly comparing it with the "Yamaha". To achieve what Yamaha has done with the handling of the R15 will still take Bajaj a few years to catch up (if it ever does!).
But, the fact remains that the newer iteration of the 220 handles a lot better than its older sibling, ofcourse it would be stupid to say it handles better than the 15. But, it has to be tested by people and not mags on the road and track to really feel if there has been any significant improvement.
My gut feeling says that, while there have been multi-level improvements from tyres, suspension to rake angle of the front forks which definitely are boosting one's confidence while taking a corner. The superior feel of the 15's around a corner is something that would not comeby with these minor changes._________________________

If you noticed, you actually did contradict yourself! Not that I don't understand your point, but a tyre change CAN actually improve handling to a formidable extent, although so many other factors come into the picture. Yes, a tyre change ALONE CAN better handling although to a small extent. I know I can ride faster in the hills if I change my tyre to better ones. More grip, better handling , period.
EDIT: Everybody knows that getting it close to a 15 in terms of handling is nearly impossible with that chassis.Last edited by silver_falcon_46; 07-10-2009, 12:53 PM.sigpic
