    Really Disappointed

The karizma has been around for 6 years and that was enough time for the R&D to get everything right with the bike. But instead we got a bike that might and I say "might" be worse than its predecessor.

Power in this case is insignificant as the earlier motor was well optimised. I dont care about 16.9 or 17.6 b.h.p.... We should understand that even a b.h.p gain is a lot of effort and gaining it is not the problem, sustaining it in all conditions is.

These are a list of modifications the Karizma should have got apart from a b.h.p. jump for the speed freaks out there.

Fatter(or same size doesnt matter)forks upfront with atleast 7-8 inches of travel and externally adjustable preload. Rake is perfect.

Stiffer frame with increased height and ground clearance.

Rear monoshock could have been adapted from any of Honda's existing models. Preferred style would have been an offset Monoshock without linkages with 7-8 inches of travel and a lightweight swingarm.

The Karizma 's alternator is undoubtedly the best in the business, so a well optimised 55/60 HID should be standard as well.

Brakes should be discs front and rear. Front should be atleast a 300mm for sufficient cooling and should be progressive all through like the R15's.

Exhaust could have been routed a bit higher to make it easier to wade in water (hehe).

Barkbusters or Handguards could have been an option as well.

Plastics should be much stronger or done away with wherever possible.

Throttle could be a quick lift throttle without the push-pull cable B.S.

Should have a much larger clutch bell, with bigger clutch plates and more importantly stronger clutch springs. You will never be able to unleash the power of the karizma until this particular change was made.

Footpegs should be grippier and mounts stronger, I have broken mine twice.

Triple clamp was not necessary, they could have given a much stiffer, taller handlebar with a proper clamp instead of the puny ones they do now.

Skidplates should probably be an option as well.

Tyres should remain 100/90 at the most 110/90 for the rear. Increased size in the front will result in bad handling. Mags could be lighter.

I have understood that the term road in India has no meaning and that even if you are on road you are bound to encounter off-road conditions at one point or the other. I am happy with my bike and the above mentioned mods would be a practical upgrade that HH could have done and unknowingly pleased a lot of people. But I also know that this is not possible. I will NEVER be able to buy a bike made in India that could compete with international bikes. Even most of the people who ride bikes for recreation do not understand what they want in a bike, it is not their mistake but the fault of the manufacturers themselves. I am living in a land where fitting two spark plugs is a TECHNOLOGY and "gas charged" twin shocks are somehow marketed as better without knowing why or what. Bikes that do 120kmph come with 35w healights and tractors with a topspeed of 40kmph get two 55w headlight bulbs.
I fail to understand how people think the R15 has superior tyres "specially made by MRF",this fact was even validated by major magazines. People there are people and can make mistakes but this is plain ignorance/stupidity. FOR GODSSAKE ITS THE MONOSHOCK WITH LINKAGES THATS GIVING YOU BETTER GRIP.
" I happened to pass over the omnipresent cow dung on a curve and the bike held on." said a buffoon remarking on the "excellent" grip of the FZ's tyres.
And you wonder why the R15's suspension is non-adjustable, beacause Yamaha knows fools like the above wouldn't know how to adjust it in the first place.

Well thats that, you'll know what I'm talking about if you watch offroad events in India like motocross etc. Its funnier than the Great Indian Laughter challenge.

      So true!!

But we have to accept the fact that we live in a country where styling is given more importance and HH very well knows about the customers and they didnt even care to touch the engine(which is a gem, already). Even if you plonk in a fairing in a 100cc bike and price it at 80k-on road people will still buy the bike like vegetables. It's a sad thing that nobody respects technology and R&D and i find TVS and BAJAJ look like stupid manufacturers in front of those japanese manufacturers who get away with lipstick jobs.

Btw, the new ZMA just got heavier and better. It was an awesome tourer and now with better fuel metering the throttle response would definitely be more crispier and it will be a dream to ride on highways. Cant wait for a test ride.

        @ Pratap: Nicely written dude......

well the new ZMR seems promising apart from that weird Fairing....
forget the 3.7 claim, the real would be 4.5 or 4.8....
the power bumped is only 0.6 PS too....

But why that full chain cover???
18" rear tubeless sounds good as now i've a option for my FI's rear 18"'s!!!!!

i'm waiting for OVERDRIVE guys to test it now.....

dude...even if you take a pic of zmr and r15 in the same angle the r15's fairing is a lot better chiseled....the lines go well with the body of r15.the zmr's fairing is a bit huge and fatty if i say so...

What is it with full chain cover ? I don't understand the usability/advantage of open chain, at least in India.

like i said to be very frank the R15 fairing looks like a properly company's designed, keeping in mind the overall shape and aerodynamics....like you said,it's superb...

on the other hand the ZMR is like they were having the bike they removed it's half fairing, whistled a guy with a "hathoda" and told him to mould a one according to the 6 year old bike....

and the fellow who did it,ended Fu$%#n the whole thing....

The R-15 and ZMR are different bikes for purpose. Do not compare them. R-15 is derived from R1. ZMR is not derived from the 'Fireblade'.

They are international models and are not "India" specific. Open chain may look better, but maintenance is hell

You never do touring or what?
Consider it an option, you can remove if you want, but for touring its a must I'll say for lower maintenance & durability.

But my point is "maintenance". I've already had enough with open chain on my R15

                          • @rennycornelius, anyway you never want to buy this bike, then, why are you so bothered about its closed chain. Those who are buying, though at first likes the open chain, gradually they understand the importance of closed chain in indian roads.

Now, I very much understood the importance of a closed chain, after using the R-15 for the last one month in rains.

Engine oil - 1.35 l ...(Are Indian companies fighting for supremacy here)
                              Battery - 12v 6 Ah MF battery...(only 6 Ah....)
Along with this, the ground clearance has also been decreased to 159mm....(lower than the lowest bike I have ridden.....P220)....
Engine Oil 1.35 L is gonna be a pain.
P220's ground clearance I think is 165mm, among the highest in Indian bikes. The ZMA had a 150mm ground clearance. The ZMR bettered it.

Battery might not be that a problem. If the 3.5AH MF battery from Yuasa can handle everything in the R15 (plus one extra 35W bulb, when used with one 55/60W bulb and one 35/35W bulb) without a hitch the ZMR would be able to take a 55/60 W bulb happily with its 6Ah MF battery from Yuasa.

And even for my old Karizma which will require a tyre change in the near future.

HH(alongwith Honda) have tried to satisfy the need of every class of buyer with this product which resulted in a confused looking product.Instrument console, rear tail-lamp and the front headlight portion are the only things that I liked in this bike.I'm bit worried about the overall handling characteristics(will reserve my comment till I take a test ride) of this bike given the fact that 9kgs are added. The older ZMA was excellent around the corners and was quite good on off-road trails. Will this one also perform with same finesse?
