And hard to believe people considering an example of branding being a comparisonOriginally posted by ravi@17bhp View PostAnd, hard to believe a comparision between pulsars and Kawasaki Ninjas.
except an special someone who actually compared pulsar and ninja vis-a-vis
In that case anything mentioned on this thread outside "Pulsar" is comparison with Pulsar

^^^ Oh boy! Those quotes by Santa made my day.
Really amusing to see comparision to ipods, Nokia phones. And, hard to believe a comparision between pulsars and Kawasaki Ninjas.

If only Honda ventured into the higher segment, i'd love to buy their bike with all their technological goodness

Interesting... thanks for the link.
Goes to show how Branding is indeed a funny and interesting subject.

Some irrelevant posts aside, some things I wanted to say:
1. People who are concerned about it being named as a Pulsar are right when they say the bigger Pulsars will suffer BUT
2.It makes more business sense for the company to name its lower end models as a Pulsar so that people who cannot buy the 220, they can go for the 135 based on the name. There will ne thousands of people like this - executives etc.(Best example is the Fireblade series - 250 and the 1000).
3.The bike is interesting and good looking and is something which will grow on someone once starts seeing it every day.
4. The hullabaloo about the name etc is justified. After all people who are concerned are attached to the Pulsar and Bajaj brand. The best example would be the recent IKEA 'font' change from Futura to Verdana. Could you believe a thing simple as this could cause serious outrages in the online world. Have a read.

An example which I can think of is mobile phones. Nokia has many models under the Nseries. So will a person not buy a new Nseries phone just because it is not exclusive(i.e it belongs to the same N series)? This is not the case here. People buy phones by looking at the features and not by looking at the exclusivity. And after a few months or a year the same phone becomes phased out. So will he not buy that phone fearing that it will be phased out in a year? Suppose a person buys a phone for Rs.30000 and the very next week the price comes down to Rs.28000. So will he stop buying phones fearing that the price will come down in a week? Will a person still buy a Nokia phone if they sell the N70 till now and just keep changing the colour of the panel? People want a change in the product and want it to be up to date with the latest technology. If a person fears about losing exclusivity of the product which he buys, then he cannot make a right choice in the first place itself.
This same logic can be applied to bikes. Will a person stop buying a bike only because it is not exclusive or it might be phased out in the future? A person buys a bike for his own pleasure, not for telling others that he has a particular "exclusive" bike, so that they may praise him for getting that bike. A person looks at the features that he is offered at a given price and makes a decision based on that.
Period
No mate Phones are Phones Bikes are Bikes! Different things. I personally don't apply the same logic as buying phones to buying bikes.Last edited by yamahatrooper; 11-27-2009, 03:41 AM.
