  • I think that many of us on this thread are missing the wood for the trees. We're completely off the mark ( not to mention OT ). The words 'commute' and 'performance' are themselves paradox and should not be used in the same sentence - leave alone same bike!

We ALL agree that India is a commuter market and companies are only now beginning to explore the potential 'performance' market. I hear a lot of jingoism where so many bemoan the unavailability of a 'performance' ride, yet when they are offered one like the Ninja 250R, we're quick to say "it should have been a lakh cheaper"!! How typically 'desi' of us!!

I'm willing to bet that if a bike does get made in that price bracket, we'll moan about the 'mileage' or 'cost of spares'!

I say stop whining and start riding!!

Now, does anyone have any reliable information regarding the launch of the Ninja 650R? I for one want to get my hands on one as I'm given to believe that it serves as a capable sports-tourer.

      • people are not looking for mileage but certainly spare cost in case of accidents, we all ran RX and Shoguns with absolutely rubbish for fuel consumption figures, so its for these guys.
The ignorant people who want everything which is impossible ie performance and mileage are mutualy exclusive, will always be there the maruti advt for that proves, if things get built here the cost is bound to come down a lot

all i can say here is if you want a performance bike forget mileage, it will be worst than rubbish. still in India there are some manufacturers like Yamaha which has the r15 which in insane condition gives you 30+ mileage but the shogun used to give 18 or 20 per liter.

                • the r1 and fireblade both litre class bike gives a milleage of around 15-17kmpl.... which i believe is good for a 1000 c.c. engine producing around 170+ horses....

even i think that mileage wont be an issue if such bikes are launched in India but the cost of spares might be a problem because a simple fairing on a fazer cost somewhere around 7k.... dont know what will be the cost of the same on such bikes....

am not even going to compare the prices of the internal parts....

hey buddy its not about the cbu or the costing its about the r15 is bought as a innovation bought by Yamaha to thrill the bikers in this country where Yamaha is still having the large piece of cake, whereas our local manufacturers are still fighting over small cc bikes.
All i feel is if a 400 cc single cylinder bike with something like 40 bhp is launched in India within the range of 2 lakhs it will roll the markets and will have a upper hand

hey dude let bajaj make such a bike i am sure it will thrill all the biker enthusiasts in the country, and some how the probability of bajaj launching a 400 cc bike with 40bhp in 2 lakhs is higher as it has already the 220 withing the price range of 80k so the hopes are higher on bajaj than the other manufacturers

A biker according to me, is a guy who loves his bike, passionate about biking and DOES NOT use his bike JUST for going from Point A to Point B...

                                e.g. (almost all) xBhpians...

and thats why IMO remaining 2 billion Indians are not "bikers", they are "commuters"...
