Second thing, without price estimation the above poll doesn't make much of a sense to me. People are just blindly selecting ZX-6R

For brand building the easiest and best bet for Bajaj will be to bring something above 800cc is what I feel other than the likes of 650R or Duke 690.
    +1

    ZX 6R for young guys
    650R for oldies

and yes, in which slot do i fall in?

@Kenda: I accept that the ER series makes so much more sense. But I would like to ride a R series bike until my back can take it. I don't want to die a track bike virgin!
After that i will definitely have to ride upright seated bike.

I am in favour of saving my back, wrists and most importantly my relationships. When I take my R1 out for long hauls, it injures me and my relationship. To such an extent that now I travel alone. If I have something like a ER-6F, I can travel without hurting my back much, my wrists will be doing fine and I will have fine company behind me cruising at 170Kmph with luggage. And with the 4Lacs that I will save, I can go and tour South America!

Yes, the Indian public, read a lot of members from xBhp, are crazy for R bikes. But then how many of them actually go out and buy them? And those who have clocked a few kilometres on their R steeds have learn't to do something better! The Indian public has to mature a LOT to be able to take sensible decisions.

I only hope Bajaj takes a calculated decision. A matured one.

I understand what you have said.. but then you have thousands of kilometers clocked on "R" bikes to fully appreciate their benefits, shortcomings and (im)practicality.. such insight comes only after a rich biking experience like yours.

But just rewind your own experience when you had NOT got your first "R" bike.. that would I believe explain the craving for "R" bikes.

But from a business perspective, its the mature/older guys who would have the moolah to spend (comparitively) more then the young blood.

Guys, I believe age is not directly related to choice of bikes.

For example, I prefer a 650f or Duke, despite being only 23. I believe even Aryan bro is also roughly the same age as me...

The thing is that we both need a bike with reasonable
power, but should be rideable at 40 kmph too.. Sporty, torquey and comfortable enough for both commuting and touring.

And thats why we choose 650r or duke. It is related to our "perception of future usage" rather than age.

Although, I would love zx6r, but not in my city for sure!
And since, so many guys are showing intrest, I can always borrow one for a small ride, cant I?

A very valid point. If this news is for real then Bajaj would definitely consider this.

With India having just 2 race tracks that too both down south and then the indian city roads... Finding sense for a ZX6r is difficult.

But how many people use sense when buying a superbike.

Make more racetracks in India and I will start saving money for a 600 or a liter class.

Given two choices bring on ZX 6R - which would satisfy the track use / racing spirit and ER 6N for tourers. My choice would be ER 6N - which suits the kind of rides i like to do.

Duke for me , anyday , anytime , anywhere .

From the list , 650R (sadly) makes the most practical choice .

I buy superbikes because I want performance. I aint looking to satisfy any commuting needs. Heck I dont commute on a bike. Touring is something that I will never do. But I am a sucker for performance and performance riding. That includes track riding and riding through mountaineous and hilly ghats/canyons.....(Lavasa and Amby Valley in this part of the world)

I personally think Bajaj will make tons of money by selling the 650R.
If you ask me though.. the 650R handles like a joke. There is no neutrality to its handling and the brakes are made of wood.
They should bring on something else and something better to India. Like the Z750 naked bike. Now that aint a supersport or a track focused bike like the ZX-6R but its a good bike first and a role playing tourer/commuter second.
I aint failing to understand the demands that the bike should be able to commute/tour good. I am simply stating that a bike has to be a good bike first and then can be a tourer/supersports/superbbike/dirtbike/etc second.
The 650R fails at being a good bike. That it is a tourer and tourer is needed by the indian folk right now is a different matter altogether.

650R is the most practical bike ever ridden by me outside India and i own one, it was a tough decision for me to make and i am glad i made the right one

Manoeuvring 650R is a dream, its as good as my CBZ. Its a low rev machine, and can beat R6 without an effort till 100-110 M/Hr and offcourse then R6 zooms away as 650R doesn't go beyond 132 M/Hr.

I ride it everday for 50+ miles and have been for 7+ hrs rides at a stretch and this baby works like a dream

I am so glad that it might become available in India, as i dont have to worry about getting mine back home.... Ye Ye

Dude ... I cannot stop laughing at your esteemed "opinion" ..

I would really like to know which bike u have been riding and since how long?

I would really like to see you go up the mountains or on the roads for that matter, or the tracks you have been riding at speeds > 200+ kmph

650R churns out 72 bhp, and that does fit in my definition of performance. And if you are too much into performance then why stop at 600 cc's go for BMW's 1000 cc bike dude.

I am not trying to sell u a 650R but there are people out there who have been riding for more than a decade and if you cannot appreciate/respect their opinion then atleast don't be loud, I totally agree with what Ken commented.

**PS.. Just a little pissed on the fact that u threw mud on the bike i have been riding for more than 2 years now. I have had a R6, R1 for a substantial period of time (under "Exchange" program with friends)

I never said I did not like the ZX6R - I would love to own one, but 650R seems a far more practical choice to me. Unless I am on the track (I have never been on one and I don't see myself hitting it anytime soon), I don't see how anyone can appreciate the 'performance' of track oriented bikes, be it acceleration or handling. And 7-8 lakhs seems a lot of money to me just for tearing up the twisties twice a month. Since I commute/tour most of the time on motorcycles, riding position and comfort takes precedence over everything else. Having owned a RE for years, that kind of inclination comes naturally.

Don't apply general comments to yourself, exceptions exists. Very few people really appreciate machines the way you do. I just have seen too many guys on track bikes shifting gear with flip flops at traffic signals and revving hard, badly trying to get attention. (which they do, and that makes them posers!)

If one of these is actually coming , 650R is definitely the first one because of the reason stated above.

The other should be a 6R (supersport) or a 690 (hooligan) or if possible a z1000 (reduces homologation hassles).

BTW, Where did u get the crazy thought of z750 its good on paper though , 100ps+ , super awesome styling , naked bike , inline 4 (for the hum) and comes in white

TOP END, horsepower, throttle response, crispness of controls, sound, smoothness, brakes, suspension - nothing comes close. The 650R also has been overproduced and now it looks like it will be dumped in India.

and comfort and ergonomics should take precedence if you are into touring. I am saying that if its about touring then there are better bikes than the 650R and that Bajaj should get them or the Z750.
I am getting a feeling that because we dont have anything in the 600cc segment we are settling in for a bad deal. 650R is being seen and heralded by our minds as our saviour/messiah. I Just wish that the saviour would be a better one, thats all.
