He advised me not to go for R1 as he recieves lot of complaints from R1 owners every now and then. He suggested me to go for Honda Fireblade instead as it does not give snu mechanical trouble even if its little older bike. Now I would like to know from R1 owners about its maintenence issues if any, or if this bike becomes little old does it give any mechanical problems. An honest review would be very helpful to me, as this ll help me in planning which bike I should invest in if I have to pick up a used one. I personally like R1 the most.
Hey Vivek - As guess the only thing with R1 is the insane amountof heat ir produces in traffic compared to the other Japs - on the mechanical issues part - Im not sure what you are referring to - if you can specific - I can throw some light on it..

With a heavy-heart I have parted ways with my R1 - and it is to chase another motorcycling dream.. more on that would require a new thread

To all the fabulous folks who have touched my life and were part of my journey of chasing, achieving and living the dream of owning the R1 and dare I say to those who were in someway inspired by my pursuit - a big thank you & a hug from the bottom of my heart

Well, when i say mechanical problems, i mean to ask how about the clutch plates ( do they wear off quite often) or the compression ratios in the cylinders, once i heard someone had a problem with one of the cylinders and it seemed some problem with the engine head part where the valves are located

Nope Vivek - never faced any issues with the clutch plates/nor had to replace them (compared to the other Japs - the clutch bell of the R1 is generally noisy).
Compression ratio needs attention though (only if you cant stick to high-octane fuel like Speed 97) and as you clock more kms - you should look at Shim Setting (to adjust the Valve clearance in the engine head) - but this is part of the regular maintenance prescribed in the owner's manual of 2008 R1s (so you shouldnt break your head over it).
