  • IMHO, yes the 100 or something Ninja 250R will be affected after the launch of CBR 250R but as it says-

"Will the CBR 250R kill the Ninja 250R in sales"

Its not wholly true. Some serious guy wanting, Ninja 250R, will wait more so that he has sufficient amount in his hand. The one who had dreamt it will surely have it one day. No matter the time it takes.

Its not that Ninja 250R would be stopped in production because of its poor sales due the CBR 250R...

CBR 250R is not going to be launched to kill Ninja 250R sales, but to provide a choice to a biker to experience a good 250cc engine with half a price.

They dont have competition atleast in India.

My friend says that he can wait all for 5 years to have Ninja 250 after having Pulsar 180.

Though no offence here to anyone.

    Just my opinion.

    • A friend of mine walked into the Mahindra showroom and test rode the 125cc bikes they have launched (cant recollect the name of the bikes).

He inquired about the Mojo and apparently there are no discounts, price revisions etc. in view of the honda's cbr launch. Mahindra is either confident of its product or has already designed a tombstone for it.

I was also wondering what happened to the Karizma ZMR? As it is the sales are not doing well... with the cbr250 its going to get extinct.

      P.S. No offense to anyone

        • A slightly different sort of a review, not the typical reviews, worth a read

          • See, there are always pros and cons for each and every bike in the world.. ( Leave alone the newly lethal Weapon Kawasaki ZX10R or the S1000RR).
So same is the case with the Ninja250R or the CBR250R which are quarter litre Super HEros in their own form..But Both have their own Positive and Negative Side, which cant be overlooked. No bike in this world is perfect overall..

            1. Sales : Yes Obviouly CBR250R score over here. ~1.8L ex show room price ( talking about the C-ABS version) is well well below the Ninja 250R which cost ~3L ex showroom (Approx).. Who would not buy a bike which is almost a Lakh cheaper and which is having a Combined ABS which is very well needed for the Indian Roads.. Surely we indians are always looking for things which are cheaper and much more value worthy..wont we.( Sasta and Tikauu ).

            2. Performance : Here the Ninja scores, and scores well against the CBR, and everybody know why.( a parallel twin cylinder, more power, more speed blah blah blah.. I am not repeating same thing again and again, it will bore the members here.. ).But anyways just a little of it is below which i Like the most.
Ninja 250R features refined intake and exhaust ports contribute to good off-idle response and smooth power delivery. Also the valve timing and lift has been designed for strong low- and mid-range torque while direct valve actuation ensures reliable high-rpm operability. And valves with thin heads and stems reduce reciprocating weight with 2-into-1 exhaust system contributes to the Ninja 250R’s low- and mid-range torque and smooth, step-free power curve. It meets strict emissions with dual catalyzers; one in the collector pipe and the other in the silencer positioning the first catalyzer as close to the exhaust ports maximizes its efficiency as well.
The silky smooth 6-speed Gearbox features involute splines reduce friction and backlash between gears and shafts for easier gear meshing and smooth shifting under power. Also with spring-type clutch damper reduces jerkiness at very low speeds and minimizes shocks when rolling on and off the throttle for a smoother clutch feel. The paper-base friction plates help increase clutch durability.

Now the question for the CBR is :
What should a next-generation liquid-cooled 250cc single-cylinder engine that is also ecofriendly be like? What should the output characteristics of a 250cc single-cylinder sport bike be when the comfort and the ease of handling that can satisfy customers all over the world are taken into account? How can an engine that is light and compact and yet has a high-quality feel be able to support the ride as the rider wants it?

I hope the answers to all these questions, must be in Honda's mind, when they will launch the CBR in April.

My Like : Obviously I will go for Ninja at any point of time for various reasons...( No offense to guys who are supoprting CBR right from the word GO..).. Lets put our fingers crossed for the launch of CBR, so that we can have more clear picture of what it is and how is the performance...

                  • @bprags: thanks for the input/links/pictures you've been sharing.

the Michael Uhlarik review of the CBR250R was an interesting read.

seems like he's more than happy with the performance + fit & finish of the bike.

                        My pleasure buddy.

This bike will be the best tourer when launched in India, it will take over from the ZMA as the best tourer tag. It will be a go any where bike.

                        • One more top speed video, does 171 on speedo

                          YouTube - Honda CBR 250 R(FI)2011"Aling" Testdrive 2

This is what a guy had to say after testing it on Sepang track.

ok...yesterday just tested the bike at sepang circuit....

overall look...more like a touring bike...
size...looks big...but when u were sitting on it then u'll realize that it was a bit small but doesn't hurt comfort ergonomic seating position in fact the seating position was very nice...seat also really comfy...unlike some other 250cc bike which has hard seat and "long arm man" handle reach...

power wise.....delivery was smooth....not that racy feeling even u got 23hp on tap....the most amazing was the torque....coming out of Turn4 of SIC going uphill on 4th gear was easy....topped on mainstraight 155km/h++ (if on open road can do more).....plenty of torque from 3000rpm until the needle past 9500rpm before the rev limiter do its job at 10500rpm....gear evenly spreaded to suits touring/long journey....unlike its smaller sibling cbr150 which has racy effect close ratio gearbox which can be quite tiring on long journey...

handling...the factory fitted IRC tyre was exactly the same tyre available on ninja250...since this bike was merely 165kg...it was very nimble...really stable on cornering....flipping the bike at Turn1+Turn2 of SIC somehow as easy as riding yamaha rxz......front fork...a bit firm...but not as hard brick...still good for comfort....rear monoshock was decent....expect to be a bit on softer side when rider's weights more than 80kilos.....

braking....this was the best part...awesome....especially on ABS version....coming downhill of Turn6+Turn7 of SIC north track and leaning with hard braking using REAR BRAKE only did nothing to unsettle the bike....instead the abs work perfectly with maximum braking capability....and left me without any skids mark as i was intended to create some....expect braking stability in wet weather condition which is commonly haunting riders in wet or slippery condition...

about meter...analog rpm counter with digital speedo was easy to read...along with digital temp. meter....and quite refreshing apart from old trusworthy full analog previously on its smaller sibling cbr150r....

on overall appearance...this can be a bit hard to decide..its up to a person wheter to live it or hate it....but the design really stands up from the rest.....

in my opinion.this bike was designed for daily use in mind...but once in a while if the rider decide to do some corner attack, nothing comes better than this (in 250cc and below category)...with fuel injection translates to smooth power delivery with fuel saving...this bike would be a perfect daily workhorse.....and even better for beginner..as this bike was easy to handle and lightweight....especially for those who was looking for something better than kapcai's and without 2t smokes lurking around even after the engine switched off....

                          New Honda CBR250r
A few images of a dyno test of a brand new CBR (just done 6.8 km).
