  • Its not a fully blown ABS unit, its a link type.

    Please do not compare the top end performance of a 250R vs the Ninja-250-R. A twin cylinder Motorcycle which makes it peak power higher up in the rev range cannot be compared to a Motorcycle having torque low down.

    Practicality? If you got toes & don't mind shifting, the 250R will delight else find solace in hauling yourself on another 250.

    The pricing difference makes us debate else I don't think any of us would be picking a 250R over the 250R

      +1 more

      in sticker terms both has 250 and huge difference is there in pricing thus people tend to compare.

      Its like R15 as well as Disco 150 are 150 cc category bikes and you know whats there on what.....similarly once its out you will come to know why we have such a big price difference.....

      • Some Maths:

        Assuming uniform acceleration for a total of 7.7 seconds.
        Ninja 250R (US Edition: Carb)
        0-60 mph - 7.7 seconds
        60 mph = 26.8222222 m/s
        u = 0
        t = 7.7 s
        a = 3.483 m/s2
        s = ut + 1/2*at2
        So, S = 103 meters

        CBR 250R:
        0 - 60 mph - 8.5 seconds
        Assuming uniform acceleration for a total of 8.5 seconds
        a = 3.155 m/s2
        t = 8.5 s
        s = ut + 1/2*at2
        So, S = 113 meters

        The above calculation shows that CBR takes approx 10 meters more than the Ninja to reach 60 mph (96.59 kmph). And as the test report shows, it takes the CBR 0.8 seconds more than the US Spec carb Ninja 250R (Which is slower than the EU / India spec Ninja). It is also a widely accepted fact that the top speed of the CBR 250R (90 odd mph) is much lower than the Ninja 250r (110 mph) and so it will accelerate post 70mph faster than the CBR can even think of and keep on accelerating even after the CBR completely runs out of steam. Then how the F is it that the CBR 250R does a quarter mile faster than than the Ninja 250R. How can people even assume such things based solely on the 1.8 Nm of extra low end Torque with the CBR. The advantage of that extra torque is lost as soon as the CBR rider up-shifts the CBR from 1st to 2nd (Which will typically be within 50 meters). I am soo happy that bullcr@p discussion has stopped now.

        Anyways.. nice review by motorcycle-usa. I hope xBHP does a similar shootout between the India Spec Ninja and the CBR250R and answers the question posed in the thread once and for all.

        Anyways.. My take is, Ninja will need a price revision with both sticker price and pricing of spares if it has to sustain its volumes after the initial 1000 sales. Reduction in pricing of spares is not necessarily a bad thing for existing owners and I guess should be a welcome change. What will worry the early adopters is if/when the sticker price falls to the CBRish(with ABS) region (because that means the resale will fall drastically), which is actually inevitable considering it now has actual competition. The CBR has already triggered a revamped R15 at lowered pricing (Unreliable? Source: 2011 Yamaha R15 to cost Rs 10,000 cheaper? ). Hopefully, the Ninja will follow suit and we get to see a lot more of those green goblins around us.

        Long live competition!

        • We know cbr and ninja will all a different league.. though the cbr is much comfortable bike for daily use as well as we can have great fun too.. As seen in videos, the cbr touches 150kmph and thats quiet a lot taking our road conditions.. I will definately go with the cbr..

            @Antz - Brilliant comparison on Maths. How about Power to weight ratio (esp with a non ABS one)? Can you show some pointers on that front as well pls?

Honda is just giving a good value for money bike...

                THis is the part am worried about

                Its a freaking mechanical ABS..not an electronic one. Wouldnot want this if i were to run into sand, gravel or grass.The last thing anyone would want to do in such a situation is even think about the front brake.
                Moreover it wont help you do any trail braking on the corners as well.

                Inspite of the C-ABS and a lighter weight, both have the same stopping distance. This also means that the stock brakes lack bite on the Honda.

                The mileage looks good (65 mpg = 27 kmpl) is similar to what you get on the european spec Ninja as well.

                THe 90mph (144 kmph) top speed is a bad let off. Thats what the fastest Indian can do. Do agree that it would get there faster than the fastest indian though

                Overall not a bad deal at 1.8 lacs. But if the top end is only 144, assume it would reach 110-120 in quick time and take a lil while to reach the 144 mark.

                Now i wonder if the fastest indian would be a better choice at a lac less!!

                • I bet CBR 250R is going to be one of the best Touring Sports vehicles in the country and also would be an exceptional VFM product.
                  It will have refinement,mileage,quality and looks in its favour when it comes to the 250cc market.

                  It is not an exclusive 250cc bike,but definitely a bike which would raise the bar of Indian biking standards,which was till recently restricted to the likes of R15,RTR180,Pulsar 220 and Karizma.

                  Ninja was the only 250 bike so far and people did not have choice but to buy it if they did not have the money for a legal import but wanted a fast bike at the same time.

                  Now with the CBR250R we would have affordable performance for many enthusiast bikers.

                    +1; Strongly agreed & it will set standards on a new biking segment just like, commuter, SBK & this will emerge into another segment & CBR250R will play a key role in changing.

                    • If Honda prices CBR as speculated then it's short walk for Ninja to the graveyard. It will also question logics of pricing by Bajaj-Kawasaki. It will be more foolish on part of Bajaj-Kawasaki if they reduce prices to compete CBR as it will tarnish their brands for charging excessively. What Say ?

                        No doubt, they will as they're priced about $4000 in US & that works around to what they've priced here.

                        It will NOT!!! N250R is a CKD attracting feeding the lazy babus. N250R is completely a different game though CBR250R & N250R belongs to the same segment. Lets not compare & insult both of them. That's my humble request. Lets restrict to CBR250R here.

                        PS - Has anyone noticed, the Kwacker 250R thread doesn't contain any fuss on CBR250R, while, any CBR250R thread has a lot of apprehension on N250R. Why? Is it because, ppl who're planning to buy CBR250R are SCARED of N250R? C'mon guys!!! stop talking on N250R!!!

                          One probably need to just spend some time with Ninja 250R.
                          Like I did for a full day.. and boy, was I impressed..!!

                          I am now sure that Ninja 250R owners know very well what they ride, so why the fuss?

                                Well said Aargee. I wonder why some people are feeling so.

                                Be it a CBR 250 or a CBR 1000RR it's fun to ride these machines. Anyone is welcome to ride with us, so if one feels that our rides are exclusive to ninja's only, then its not so.
