    Hey, I didnt know where to ask this question, but this seemed like the best palce with so many Ducati owners and enthusiasts congregating on this thread.

    Is the Ducati GT1000 available in the showrooms or has it been discontinued. Apparently it has been discontinued from the international line-up, but im not sure about INdia.
    I am a fan of classic bikes and the GT1000 looked perfect to me. Please let me know if its still available in the Indian showrooms anyone?

      Only 2 were brought into the Delhi showroom when the showroom was just launched. Both were sold within no time. Now none of the showrooms have them in stock but there is one on display...am not sure in Mumbai or Ahmedabad. Check with the dealers there and try your luck. It sure is not available in Bangalore.

          its gorgeous, no other word for it . . . i've been riding a zx6r for a few months now and i got the chance to take a 15 min test ride of a 796 . . . i have to say, the engine braking came as a bit of a shock to me. but it makes so many sweet random sputtering sounds, it gave me goosebumps

          i could really feel the vibes at higher rpm's, though its not anything you cant live with . . .

              Didnt ride the HM, rode the monster 796, my first V twin
              Had so much torque low down.the zx6r revs to 16000 (it really moves after 8k),
              so was hitting the rev limiter a lot on the monster

              i just sold the zx6r cause i may be coming back to India and am seriously confused about my next buy there . . . i definitely CANNOT go back to my RTR

              • ^ In that case some of your observations come as a surprise to me. For instance vibes at higher rpms...Actually I significantly notice the vibes in lower rpms say below 3000 and the bike becomes silky smooth just after that. May be kallan19 and other monster owners can comment.

                And would like to know what was the shock about the engine braking...good or bad

                  i'm not sure where the vibes came in exactly, cause i was going all out on the freeway, but after the 15 min ride, i was all tingly in my arms

                  the engine braking, well there was a lot of it compared to the ninja. i'm not sure if its a good or a bad thing . . . i did do a trackday on the ninja which was real easy to handle because of the almost non existent engine braking. so i'm not sure, for the street, maybe it doesnt make a difference . . .
                  and i was speaking to the dealership guy who said the engine braking was very characteristic of the duc 'L' twins (i always thought it was a referred to as a 'V' twin, guess i was wrong) . . .
                  why dont you tell me, guess its just something to get used to right?
                  cause i was thinking of getting the ninja 650R when i came back, but the 796 seems like something i can be happy on for a much longer time . . . even though i'll have to take out a loan . . .
                  i'll be in b'lore too, so no problems with service either . . .

                    From an inline 4 to L/V twin, the vibes will be prominent. But you get used to it. And I concur that, for the first time the hands definitely become numb ;-)

                    Yes, the engine braking is quite noticable and for me its really a benefit in Bangalore. But not sure its a characteristic of an engine. To give you an example, the Honda CB600F an inline 4, has excellent engine braking but not as powerfule as the Monster. And then what would be the engine braking of the L-twins of 848 evo or the 1198SP, both being track machines . Honestly, don't know the answer.

So, you need to get the priorities set first on the type of riding, roads to be ridden, servicing and maintenance...etc. With the 650, I guess you will be at home since you are already a Kwacker owner and the ProBiking reputation is very good in Bangalore. Duc ownership will be different and expensive. After sales has just started and an opinion will be formed only after sometime...say 6 months from now.

                    But to answer your question on getting used to, don't worry. You'll be right at home once you get to know the bike. Do sync up once you are here.

                      Both are different categories. One is a tourer and the other is a streetbike. So, you need to get the priorities set first on the type of riding, roads to be ridden, servicing and maintenance...etc. With the 650, I guess you will be at home since you are already a Kwacker owner and the ProBiking reputation is very good in Bangalore.                       yup, definitely agree on the point that its not strictly a characteristic of the engine. the zx6r has a slipper clutch and i guess so do the track oriented ducatis . . .

                      i get that they're different categories, but i'm not that picky
                      i used to do the bangalore-kochi (560km's one way) route regularly on my RTR.
                      i'm just looking for a fun bike and then will do everything with it
                      and i just dont feel like going with the 650R after seeing the duc, even though its double the price. especially after the zx6r, the 650r would be a step down

                      • I believe engine braking is a characteristic of the torque the engine produces. Twins are more torquey than I-4s and hence have much more engine braking

                        Its very helpful on-road and on the track, you can rely heavily on the engine doing a lot of the braking for you and not just the brakes.

                          The engine is a V-twin but Ducati calls it an L-twin because one cylinder is parallel to the ground and the other is vertical making it look like an 'L'.

                            yup more torque for sure, wont argue with that for a second

                            but on the track i think, actual braking is easier to handle than engine braking right? i mean, i think you'll find its sharper and downshifts would definitely be smoother, i mean you can get away without blipping the throttle if you have a slipper clutch . . .

                              I do not like the vibes below 4000 RPM in 4th, 5th or 6th gear, seems like the there is no power like the inline 4.

                                On the contrary the ducatis produce a lot more power than the inline-4s that low in the rpm range.
