I would check the Lambda sensor too. Yams have this strange way the O2 sensor works. If it gets no signal it starts leaning it out incrementally until the engine splutters due to lack of fuel.
When this problem starts does it help if you switch off the bike, take out the key and restart in a minute or so?sigpic StreetFighter

I will surely have the problems sorted out by the time you guys get hereOriginally posted by Old Fox View PostYes...its been long. So the problems persist. To me, they still seem electrical in nature...probably something to do with non-legit inputs to the ECM from one of the sensors. No outright ideas from me either as of now. Check on the real basics though...like integrity of connections to and from the ignition switch, the tilt sensor and the impact sensor embedded up front. The R1 is a high vibration environment and that alone can cause loose connections.
Maybe cleaning the injectors and putting new O-rings will help. But that would be only if you'd got really bad fuel during one of your long rides. Hasn't happened to us as yet. But now that UP and Bihar are on...you never know
.
Do get the bike up and running by the time we get there. Am looking forward to meeting you and of course, riding with you.
Still running on the same tyres man. In fact, the tyres are holding up very well, even after a trackday. I think it'll last for another 5k or so. In case I need tyres, the dealers are selling all spares. In fact, the dealership I go to is now stocking quite a lot of essential R1 parts, and it's not just the usual filters etc. He's stocking things like gaskets, o-rings, plugs etc. I'm glad Yamaha is being proactive with this.Originally posted by kriss View Post@rossiter: Close to 10000kms ?? Did you change the tyres .. or still running on the same ones

If changed where did you get it from??
Very much keen to know about the support from yamaha in the matter of tyres...
PS: sorry, if u have posted about this already. Cant search man... Lazy you know
Both 2CTs and normal OEM PPs are being sold.Originally posted by Bladerunner View PostYes, he did post earlier. They sell Michelin 2CT's.
Cat con removal is not an issue. The problem is present with the cat con as wellOriginally posted by Aparajith View PostRossiter: Too sorry to hear about the issues man!!! Hope these are resolved soon and u tour again...
Since the topic of non-legitimate inputs from one of the sensors came up, could this be an issue due to the cat-con removal. Cos there is a sensor in the exhaust too, right?
If the ECU doesn't get any signal from the lambda sensor during the self check, I cannot start the bike, and it will display an error code as well.Originally posted by Streetfighter View PostI would check the Lambda sensor too. Not sure about used bikes man. Price can depend on a lot of things.Originally posted by bobby_wish59 View Posthey rossiter,
what all are the papers you got with your bike?
like the registrations etc...
OT: what is the price at which i can buy a 2003 R1 done 23k kilometers?
As for the papers, I got the sale invoice, delivery note, insurance papers, and tax paid receipt."Tough times never last, but tough people do." - Robert Schuller

Still running on the stocks... Great man. Busa is ready for a change in next 1500-2000 kms.
Isnt your tyre squared off ?? its almost 10000kms, most of the time tyre running on the centre patch !!! Still another 5k kms.... is unbelievable for me

Nah.. tyre still has the rounded shape. I think 12-15k is normal for the Pilot Powers on R1s. Busas are known to be tyre eaters.Originally posted by kriss View PostStill running on the stocks... Great man. Busa is ready for a change in next 1500-2000 kms.

Of late I've been downshifting hard and the rear spins up at times. So the wear rate may be a bit faster if I continue."Tough times never last, but tough people do." - Robert Schuller

so its time to switch for 2ct's. The stocks hardly give anyone 8000 in my case. Its currently 6.5k run. Lets see..Originally posted by rossiter View PostNah.. tyre still has the rounded shape. I think 12-15k is normal for the Pilot Powers on R1s. Busas are known to be tyre eaters.

YAMAHA R1 REVOLUTION: THE "CROSSPLANE" CRANKSHAFT.......
The inline 4 cylinder engine offers a new dimension in linear throttle action. This is achieved through the cross plane crankshaft and the 90 degrees phase positioning of its four crank panes. The rider operates the throttle producing torque. This torque is solely produced from the engine combustion. However the total engine output produced or the composite torque is nothing but the torque produced by the engine combustion and inertial torque produced by the rotation of the crankshaft. Inertial is nothing but the combustion torque. Inertial torque is generated by the rotation of the crankshaft. Combustion torque can be operated by the operator through the throttle but inertial torque grows larger and proportional to the speed of the crankshaft rotation and thus prevents linear throttle action from being achieved. There is some out of phase reaction between these 2 torque which should not happen. The rider needs smooth torque for smooth acceleration. This is achieved by this cross plane crankshaft by differing the adjacent crankshaft by 90 degrees. By this method inertial torque fluctuation is eliminated. Thus the rider is able to achieve the linear power delivery as he rides the bike. No commercial automobile engines have offered this inline four cylinder cross plane crankshaft. Yamaha has included this technology in their 2009 model and thus this technology belongs to Yamaha.Last edited by rennycornelius; 03-13-2009, 10:09 AM.The Magician"

Its not that no automobile engine has used this technology before. American V8's have used this crank geometry for a long long time.
The technology is old, it is pre-second world, and the techology does not belong to Yamaha, its just that they are the first people to use it in an inline 4 engine READ --> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CrossplaneLast edited by Ducati695; 03-13-2009, 11:42 AM.

@rennycornelius: Please post the source of that info, it looks like a copy-paste job.
@insane79: The 09 R1 is coming soon.. maybe in a month or two. All the existing R1s have been sold off (nearly)."Tough times never last, but tough people do." - Robert Schuller
