  • So it was a busy weekend! GS had come down primarily on some personal work, and we managed to get some action, both on road and off it with regards to our bikes.

GS has pretty much summed it up, I don't have to add more to it. I have some pics that I took of the stripped down engine. Here they are:

    Pics are here:

            • Holly Molly, its seems i am feeling the same way as i would have felt on seeing an open heart surgery. Its painful see to beauty operated and lying open.

I had plans for R1 and it took rocket high with your ownership reviews and experince.
But my brain said to me following things

              1. 11L is too much, i should seriously think of saving this for 5 years and it would double and then i could have some spare money to enjoy. Even thought probably govt will change and some duties will fly off during this phase, hence ownership cost would come down.

              2. I was not sure if there would be evident support for 10L + bikes available. I dont see decent supports for 10L + cars so I had doubt about how would it unfold, hence took back seat and thought would wait for aleast 1 - 2 years.

I guess some of my decisions where right, I hope things to improve, best wishes for your bike.

And for adrelaine rush, at 5% the cost of bike, one can make a trip to dubai for 4-5 days and can opt for 1000cc + bikes and run arround and enjoy the thrill, i accept it would just give a short time pleasure and it would be nothing as compared to owning one.

                  • Update: Warranty: Yamaha has "principally" agreed to change the parts under warranty, but it will be subject to a final call by the service head, according to a mail I received last night.

Parts status: Since all the valves are to be changed, Yamaha/the dealer did an inventory check, and found that they have 3 sets available with them, as against 4 required. So one set is coming in from abroad, pending which the service head needs to be free to carry out the repair work. More delays..

So, while I wait, GS and I are planning to continue applying pressure on these guys to get everything going as fast as possible. Will keep updating.

@fireblah: The soot/carbon buildup indicates I haven't been riding the bike hard enough And in hindsight, THANK GOD!

                        • Hey Rossi! Glad to hear about some action from Yamaha's end.. Also very glad to hear that they're ready (almost) to replace the valves under warranty.. Once the replacement is done, do press them really hard for extending the warranty due to their bad-service!
I sincerely pray & hope, that your 'The One' is up and ready to burn the roads very very soon..
                          Cheers!

                          • Great news Akhil....glad that the valves are being covered under warranty...correct me if Iam wrong, wasnt the cyclinder head supposed to be replaced due to the failed valve guide??? so what about the cyclinder head???.....
I feel for all that you have gone through ,the only way Yamaha can make it is to give you a spare R1...

Any updates on the progress? Did the 4th set hit India upto now?

                                Quick update:

Work started today, with all the parts and spares required in place. All the valves have been changed, now the newhead needs to be installed. I wasn't there to see what was going on, but will make it there sometime tomorrow and check it out.
