Read up on gear ratiosOriginally posted by yuv_biKING View PostWhat's the deal? Even high end cars have only 5 gears. What is the point in having the sixth gear? AFAIK the 6th gear is to cruise on it on low RPMs, but that doesn't seems to be a big advantage, tourers might not choose such a sporty ergonomics.
Help me understand your point.Always assume the other guy will mess up - Ride Defensively!

AFAIK/R, back in 2009, Hyosung themselves developed the EFI system for the GT250 rather than getting it from a 3rd party vendor which helped them save a LOT of costs. The 2008 GT250R carb was priced exactly the same as the 2009 GT250R EFI in the UK even though it had added EFI and was more powerful and more fuel efficient than the carb. As of today, I doubt the carb'd GT250R is sold anywhere in the world. So it is very unlikely they will go back to a carb setup after spending so much on RnD for the EFI.Originally posted by nagoo View Postover all the confusion and debate on who's father who
, here is a shocking news - the GT250R might shun the EFI tag for India and come as carb's due to reduced price , although this news is from BSMotoring [Bussiness Standard] they also assuming , still the specs are not yet clear,
Now for carb's version with 2L price tag still it be a attractive option ?? and wt big difference it can make without EFI ... now its a big spoiler for me [read me as prob first customer], in that case i may choose to go for some other option, and surely not before bashing the Garware through mail for not letting EFI come to IndiaAdvice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

the main thing here is all the new launches right from 125CC to 250CC are coming with EFI , now india is wast country and has different climate condition on every couple of hundred km's with ranging geography , imagine the Carb bike breathing heavily like some astama patient in climbing hills of steeps .. or sudden loss of powerOriginally posted by sambit View PostStill dont understand Whats the fuss is all about.if the Specs remains the same(29 Bhp,22.6 Nm,etc),and bike is Carbed one, then just around 2 Lakh OTR(1.8 L exshwroom) is great.Seriously waiting for this one.We can also expect a Naked Version at around 1.75 L OTR.
The previous GTR's in early 2000,s were not localised(they were CKDs).Hence,Priced higher.
Dude, whats your take on NINJA 250(carbed) ? Even if it had been priced at 2.5-2.6 L OTR(I think this is where it should be),would you still say its useless, just because its a Carbed? We should actually wait for the Hyusung's price to be revealed before bashing them...
, although being used for EFI in R15 for me it will be very difficult to adjust to carb's and moreover why to launch low spec bike when they already have top of the line tech with them, just to save another 30k ? and not to mention with EFI there is scope of power increase along meeting with Emission standards, in Carb's version it will need to be powered down to meet the Emission standards. other wise i don;t see any difference b/w the two
ur right we should wait for Spec's to come out..before launching attack
each bike gear ratio will be different and adjusted according to the requirement , higher gear will relax the engine while lower will make it more revving for the same speed, it's more on cruising side if the High gear employedOriginally posted by rkakkar View PostRead up on gear ratios

My reply was to YUV_Biking. Depending on if its a 5 speed or a 6 speed transmission, the gear ratios would be different at least for the last gear .. hence 5 or 6 gears DO make a difference.Originally posted by nagoo View Posteach bike gear ratio will be different and adjusted according to the requirement , higher gear will relax the engine while lower will make it more revving for the same speed, it's more on cruising side if the High gear employedAlways assume the other guy will mess up - Ride Defensively!

let's hope its TRUE , fingers crossed, after using EFI in R15 ..seriously i am not interested in Carb's anymore, even if they price it some 25-30k more for EFI .. i buy it with eye's closedOriginally posted by antz.bin View PostAFAIK/R, back in 2009, Hyosung themselves developed the EFI system for the GT250 rather than getting it from a 3rd party vendor which helped them save a LOT of costs. The last I checked we had like
0 - vTwin small bike
1 - LC Small bike
2 - FI < 249 cc bike (Oh please dont say RTR FI) OR world class quarter litres
3 - 6speed motorcycles in the market, and one of them was launched last week...

That's no excuse man. Deliver a full package is all we ask from Hyosung. vTwin liquid cooled FI 6 speed transmission is not too much to ask for. Charge the extra 20K, you'll have a lot more satisfied customers. As it is existing review are complaining about shabby quality compromises already made to lower cost.Originally posted by satyenpoojary View PostThe last I checked we had like

So addition of FI and 6 speed makes it a better package?Originally posted by rkakkar View PostThat's no excuse man. Consider this:
The CBR250R which is a Single Cylinder bike with ABS is priced at 1.8
The Ninja250R is a Twin without ABS at 3L
Tell me exactly what should be the price for this bike as it is AND with the other things you want to add.
No way am I buying it! I would wait for a while to see how the duke 200 does, and then may be buy that or the impulse for everyday commute!Originally posted by nagoo View Postwhy i am getting a feeling that u might end up owning one [read as GT250/R] .. i guess u got ur N650 right ??
I do have my N650 and have been using it a fair bit

Dude your comments were funnyOriginally posted by antz.bin View Post@Yuv_biking What is the use of 5 gears when the Jawa / Bajaj Priya had only 3? Maybe we should have just 1 gear like those electric bikes I read about 2 days back doing the IOMTT. And FYI, the 'true' high end cars have moved on to 8 speed Dual Clutch gearboxes.
, but I did not get your point. Well MiJ(Below comment) already gave you a reply
.
LOL!Originally posted by men_in_jean View PostWell I use only 3 gears in my bike to reach around 160.. which I suppose might be the topspeed of GT250R. So 3 gears would be enough then if the GT250 can reach there the same way ain't it
Just kidding!!

1.8 or 2L is what they are saying too rightOriginally posted by rkakkar View PostAs it is - 1.8-2L on road

Besides pitching it at just 1.8 is a bit unfair considering the Honda is made here, and this is just assembled! (though thats where I think they should pitch it too)

I would still be happier if they pitched at 2.5 and offer the full thing. Whether I would still go for it, is another point. I'm really really banking on Yammy giving us a 250 in R4 format. But I have a feeling that won't happen and I will only sleep well with a Ninja at the end of the day.Originally posted by satyenpoojary View Post1.8 or 2L is what they are saying too right

It is called moving on with the times. This might be due to social issues, road conditions or govt. pressures.Originally posted by yuv_biKING View PostDude your comments were funny
, but I did not get your point.
I agree We do not need a 6th gear in a bike designed specifically with 5 gears in mind. But if you read my other posts, this bike was first released in 2009. It was adequately high tech with the govt. policies prevalent in 2009. As we all know, CO2 levels in this day and age are a concern for most governments. Some are concerned about them more than others. Thats the reason we have emission norms (Euro n / BS n). Also, in specifications, BS4 and Euro 4 are quite similar.Originally posted by yuv_biKING View PostHope you guys misunderstood my question. let me reframe it, why do we need a 6th gear if the bike is not designed to have 6 gears.
Does a bike having 5 gears is inferior? Does a bike having 6 gears makes it superior?
Now coming to the point. In order to fit an older engine in a new emission norm, the easy but undesirable ways are:
1. Add Fi (which Hyosung did in 2009 in UK)
2. Reduce peak power using ECU remap (which they will most likely do in India since thats what they did with GT650 and this is also the reason I have been bashing them since the beginning of this thread)
3. Add Cat Con. (adds costs due to Platinum usage)
The harder thing to do is to completely redesign the engine and use a shorter stroke motor than before (Like BAL have done with P200NS).
Obviously, the harder thing reaps more benefits later on when you can do smaller (3) things in subsequent upgrades so you can save money for RnD for that major upgrade later.
Now we come to drawback of the short stroke motors.
1. They heat up more since they are operated at higher RPMs.
2. They produce torque in higher RPMs compared to long stroke motors (Think Bullet 350 vs Pulsar 220). The torque bands become peaky and there is less RPM range where you can utilize the high torque.
Remedies: 1. Air cooling is insufficient so liquid cooling is used.
2. So that the rider can stay at peak torque range more, more gears are added. More gears are not required on an electric motor since the torque band there is basically flat with peak torque coming from 0 RPM. But as we take this concept forward more and more, to meet emissions and still preserve riding(or Driving) pleasure, manufacturers have kept on adding gears as per requirement long as it is economically feasible for the buyer. But since it will be too much to expect a driver/rider to shift through 7/8 gears, manufacturers are switching to efficient automatics.
eg.Yamaha R15 has a 6 speed gearbox
2011 Toyota Corolla Altis has a conventional 7 speed automatic
2011 Volkswagen Touareg has an 8 speed Dual clutch Automatic
Once again, this is called moving with the times.Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
