I would also like to add that, you earn a Ducati...where as you buy a Jap bike. A ducati is mostly hand made, oozes passion and one can truly appreciate the difference after having owned a jap bike. Ducati's are never perfect and will always have some quirks. A ducati is never going to be like a Jap bike, and why should it. One ride is all it takes aboard a Ducati to realize that its something special.

Get what sets your pulse racing. It seems to me, you already know what you really want.

If you want to go with head and stick with 600cc's ninja 650 makes sense.
I think triumph daytona is worth the wait.
It all boils down to your requirement.
Bandit's a great bike.. but too high on power for me. I'd like to stick on something under 800cc

If you really want a DUCATI you buy a DUCATI and if you are looking for a VFM bikes go for japs. As simple as that!

rode a 08 busa today - till now had ridden the earlier ones only - i stand corrected. the bike is pure beauty. engine is super smooth - doesn't make too much wanna be noise - it's amazingly comfortable - handles well (unlike the earlier ones) - and have made me wonder about a lot of my prejudices.

bro i now know what you are enjoying everyday.

hehehehe.... well put. each time you mentioned it's an art form. in my defence - even i have been looking out for an italian for one and only reason - i need something that touches my soul - and no jap can ever do that. came into the market looking for an MV but sadly enough haven't found even a single clean bike - even with open end budget.

decided to go for a ducati - but then only realised that the asking price for ALL the 848 evos in the market is bordering on obscene. might as well buy a new one.

          why obscene?
well to be honest there aren't many buyers (i mean buyers not riders) for an L-twin which costs more than the inline 4 and sounds horrible (that's not what i endorse - but a regular poser claims) and produces far less power (if you ask me all the power figures are nothing but a show off point over drinks) (i really wouldn't care if my bike reaches the 100kmph mark 0.4 seconds later than some other powerful bike - heck i wouldn't even care for a second or 2).

in past couple of months i have come across atleast 6 odd ducati 848s which have been in the market for over 6 months and still haven't found a buyer. and to add to it - the asking price has been always close to the ex-showroom price.

i am a businessman and all i can ever understand about economics is the supply and demand curve as far as the price is concerned.
if the supply is more than the demand - the price falls.
if the demand is more than the supply - the price escalates.

so no matter whether its an art piece or anything - there are more than a few guys in the market who are willing to sell their bikes but haven't found a buyer at their asking price. so logic says - they need to reduce the price.

with all due respect to all the art pieces in the world - their valuation/worth is decided purely on their desirability and availability. had there been more than a one "mona-lisa" - the price would have come down - and had there been no buyers for it - it would have come down substantially!!

and before anyone starts questioning my understanding about what ducati is - on a very polite note i would want to tell them all - for my honeymoon i chose italy as my destination purely because i wanted to visit the MV, ducati and lamborghini factories.
so i think i do know what ducati is
Two small little things. Inline 4s and L twins are two different breeds. and posers comparing them on sound are idiots.

Your honeymoon destination has given me a nice idea to plan mine.. some day.. lol

Now thats more of an advice. I'm going to visit Ducati Showroom - Bombay on the weekend. Lets see what they have to offer. If I'm impressed, im gonna book it there it self. Lets see what Destiny has for me. I'll let you guys know. This seems like the path now. If the Ducati thing doesnt work out, then the Triumph Daytona 675 it is..

Once you ride a ducati you won't want anything else but most of us giving advice here are basing it on the LC engines. The air cooled ones are a totally different ball game. I wouldn't buy an air cooled ducati except to look cool on and tell people "I own a ducati".

Service and support issues with ducati is what I would be worried about too.

+ 1. People need to think a bit before posting gyan and comparing apples to oranges.

I love the bikes but I would not buy a Ducati in this country unless something changes drastically. This forum itself has some pretty scary stories about Ducati dealers, service and spares.

A VERY VERY IMPORTANT Addition. I knew it was air cooled, but may be I need to give it a second look.. Thanks for this tip

This is really disappointing me a little bit. Is the service support that bad?

Dude, you are not the only one stuck in this conundrum. Even I was planning to go for the same bike, but news from other quarters have weakened my decision-making powers. Is the wait for the Daytona 675 really worth it? that is the question. And the answer would be - yes. It's currently the best 600cc you can buy with money, maybe except for the MV Agusta F3 (but it costs ). But if you want a Ducati (if you are a Ducati fanboy like me) then you will be satisfied only with a Ducati. Just for consideration - Does anyone know if the Streetfighter 848 will be launched in India and when?

Is it true that MV Agusta is also coming to India mid 2012??

MV Agusta India Launch Mid 2012 Confirmed

The Brutale 675 (if in my budget) is also an option...

What is your budget? I thought it was around 7-8 lacs? Tuono is 16.

                              oiii

i don't think this bike has been launched in india yet.
didn't even see it at the expo - and nor did the guys tell me about this being on their list. all they had were the rsv's

and yes - hopefully mv is coming to india in 2012. but then their bikes are slightly more expensive than the expensive ducatis too. though my heart yearns for them - but i wish i earned as much.
