                  • M795 ... A nightmare

HI Guys, this is for all those who have booked the Ducati M795. I booked mine in Jan and was promised del in end March. later in march they promised April 1st Week and in April they have said May. Till date they do not have a clue as to when the dels will be given. i spoke to the sales staff and he had no clue abt the dels too. so i went in for a cancellation as it does not make any sense in getting the bike after mid may as i would not be riding in the rains. Initially i was told that the refund wont be possible as its in their contract. but after pulling a few strings i managed to convince them for a refund. i have received mails from Ducati saying they have accepted my cancellation and refund will be transferred soon. i wanted to share this with the others who are being troubled by them. According to my talks with them since the past 4 months i assume they cannot start the dels before August. Thats all the info i can share. all the best to the others who have booked the bike.

                    Cheers

                    • I dont know about India, but Ducati does not start delivering bikes here in johannesburg before April.
Dont know about the bike you were buying where they shipping from Italy?
Most of the ducati dealers do not keep fresh bike stock, they recieve usually 1 or 2 consignments a year from Italy.
All of us .... well majority of Ducati owners around the world had to wait for their bikes, its not unusual.
So long story short, if u wanna buy a new ducati.... every again.... u will not get it before april, unless u buy one thats already in stock with the dealers ( an year older model ).
so whats the point of u cancelling ur order?
or is it that u dont trust the dealer.... what are ur options?
drive safely... if not for you then for the sake of others!!

Hemank, hang tight, we have all gone thro it..... u will get the bike, and that would be one of the best days of ur life.

                          @kachhhing,

Even though it is a world renowned "feature" of Ducati to make you wait for your bike, we in India are put through a much strenuous test to be able to enjoy one.

The Indian Distributor/Importer/Ducati India CEO, and Mumbai Dealer is the same person. Someone already with a reputation for taking monies and not delivering like he did when he had Audi India. Unscrupulous to his own dealer network by trying to have Mumbai dealer contact his other dealer customers and undercut them.

There is a batch of 2012 bikes (approx 100) despatched from Italy, late 2011 production, which has been lying in Indian customs for three months now. Ducati India has taken money from several people for bikes from that lot as early as Jan-Feb with promise of immediate delivery. The importer has not come up with the money to clear the bikes out of customs yet. Misappropriating funds? Quite possibly.

The 795's are due from Thailand. Dont think the shipment has started sailing yet. But Ducati India is quite confident of having taken orders for around 150 bikes. All with a promise of delivery in Mid-March.

All this after charging one of the highest margins in the world. Dont be confused by the 103% tax excuse they use. Reasonable research will reveal to you that Ducati India is charging a margin close to $20,000 (!!more than bike cost in some countries!!) on a Diavel Carbon.

Should one's biking passion be exploited such? Is one's passion greater than sense of buyer satisfaction? Questions Ducati India needs to answer.

Do you still feel these guys should wait? Not unless Audi-Ducati kicks their thieving lying importer out as soon as possible.

                          Cheers

                          Ride Safe.

                          • guess keeping any customer waiting can never be justified, conning them of their money is even worse... agreed. i can not argue against this point.
cost of the bikes.... yes India is one of the most expensive places to buy a ducati, but other countries liek South africa ,Australia and Newzealand arent far behind. (it costed me just the same to buy my SFS as in India)
the difference is there are a very few buyers in India compared to the other forementioned countries, so the dealer will always struggle. Looks its a business for him, he is not into it cuz of biking passion, at the end of the day if he doesnt see profit in it, what does he do?

Crux :- yes the dealer is inefficiant.
but as passionate ducatisti, if one really wants a ducati, would cancelling his/her order help the dealer or himself?
but i guess its personal preference, if it was me, i would hang tight, i would trust the dealer , am sure if i have trusted him while making my deposit amount, i will trust him that my bike will get here eventually , i dont have any other option really.
drive safely... if not for you then for the sake of others!!

                            • Yes, RSA is expensive. Does that not have to do a lot with local taxes?

Please compare all "low-volume" superbikes being sold in India. Please do a basic 103% tax addition, and one can easily calculate dealer/importer margin. Compare margins of all brands and see if the low-volume argument still holds. Noticed the knee-jerk reaction on 795 pricing when Triumph announced? A Rs. 2 lakh knock-off. Not easy to do if you havent jacked up the margin high enough already.

What does "Ducatisti" mean? Does it mean just owning a Ducati? I would assume there is more to that experience than just ownership. Please indicate how one can be a Ducatista in India where repair costs jumps more than 200% in a span of three months? Where customer pays for a Termi kit and has to chase for almost a year to get the wrong one? I am sure there are more stories.

Yes, the bikes are great. The Desmodromic has no substitute. But has the Indian market matured enough that people will go to Ducati for just the bikes? For many, it's just a Superbike, and the buying, ownership and service experience means a lot more than being a "Ducatista".

Inefficiency can be improved upon to acceptable levels. I cannot think of a solution for greed and deceit.

                              Cheers
