        re: Dustom's Turbocharged Harley 1250

Rear rim suffered a 6inch long crack! I ran over an open drain hole in the evening trying to avoid an oncoming bolero.

Then spoke to few ppl in HOG group , came to know that insurance guys create all sort of drama in broken n bent rim cases. Claiming that it is due to negligence.

One or two cases have been denied earlier!
For me it meant hauling my bike to Chandigarh and them finding out the result of a 50-50 case. And then waiting for spare part to arrive in a months time atleast.
So decided to rework the rim locally at home.

Look at that rear axle! An suv would be proud of parts that heavy. No wonder Harleys last generations!

          This was the original crack.
Created a V grove along the crack and got it filled with aluminium weld. Then grinded smooth.
Done 44km after rework , seems to be holding well. Lets see how long will it go.

No , not everything! I haven't flown them yet
But I always save quite a lot of money on service n spares of my bike n cars.
Another thing is I do not know much!
Just basic stuff Mechanical engineer should know.

They liked it , appriciated , pic and handshakes and all.
Their company rider took it for a spin and said its most powerful and dangerous thing he has ever been on. Few problem he said were ,
                  1. It was impossible to reverse using human power and Back gear was dangerous due to too much torque low down.
                  2. Seat was not Egronomic and apparantly his thigh had a cramp due to it.
                  3. Gear shifting was Noisy/ notchy and abnormally soft ( Reducing feel)
                  4. rear wheel was dangerous ( Car Tyre) , although it ran beautifully through there rumble strip.
                  5. Front brake was no good.

Well most of these things I already knew , and were the way they were because of my small budget!

Met a Lot of Top guns from their Marketing n R&D .

Atlast after 3 weeks they said in a mail: We do not think Market Exists for a Diesel cruiser , We however would like to work with you and offer you Design Engineer position in Prototyping dept.

                  Ofcourse I said NO!
I was not looking for a Job , I already have one!

SO I am working on improving things at my end slowly.
Market or not Atleast i will have a Earth mover of a Cruiser , and one of a kind too!

i am both happy and sad to hear the same...

Sad to hear that it did not work out .... but........

                    happy in many ways...

                    the FALCON got recognized ..
atleast you one one heck of a machine unique on this planet..
once it becomes a company affair the original product and the product out of factory life are 2 diffrent things.
only ideas are taken and its so much twisted and turned that the actual product is no way even in your dreams...

yes financially it could have been a huge gain.. At least in US or other countries not sure of India..
but then FALCON is what it is...

good to see it back with you.. preserve it and ride it..

on side notes.. gradually as and when budget permits.. how bout getting the whole engine chromed and rest machine as Matte black..
am sure the HD and Falcon will be happy that way parked side by side...

as for the cracked rim that you fixed.. did u get the rim alignment n balancing checked..as on high speed runs.. anything beyond 80'ish it can be fatal.

                      re: Dustom's Turbocharged Harley 1250

What ever happened there was not part of my plan, so who cares what happned..
I am not too sad about that.

I m learning sheet metal fab and tig welding.
Plan to do nice a nice cruiser shape to go along with engineering of the bike.
And chrome n mat black is the original plan.

On HD wheel rework , yes i got the wheel balanced again after repairs.
I just pray that it holds long enough for me to purchase a nice wider rim and go with wide tyre conversion.

This is how they shipped it back! In a wooden crate, unfastened! Lot of things broke. They parked it on side stand without any supports to frame .
Side stand must have given up during transit and journey through a sea is always filled with lot of pitch n roll.

I just bought english wheel and now wanna make it look good as well.
Its going to take tons of money n time!

Usually ride only with my close friends, which are very very limited in numbers.
And ofcourse I did not get a Harley to make new friends. Infact most of the people do not agree with my attitude to life , so Harley isnt going to help much.
Moreover you cant do much with that extra power on that sort of roads. It went there and came back without its tail between the legs is more than good for me.

Some data collection done on Dynojet power vision.
                            0-100comes.in best at 5.1 sec , 160kph comes in at 19 secs @4th gear@ 6450rpm.
160 times are with conservative shifts between 3.8- 4.8k rpm.
Can see the shift points on graph.

This is not a stunt, does this all the time shifting from first to second beyond 5k rpm.
Thanks to new custom high torque tune .
